BlackAmericanoNoSugar I'm very particular about my coffee too. And it needs to be strong. I use a pour over coffee dripper to make single cups and a drip machine when making enough to fill my thermos for the day. Starbucks is acceptable, but just barely. Like most Americans, most of the tea I drink is iced, in the summer. We brew it in a special pitcher by leaving it out in the sun for a day.

sodding, ours are indoors only, except for the deck. We have coyotes in my area. The cats hate going out in the rain. A soggy kitten is still a good kitten. Smile

I'm off in a few to the oral surgeon.

Could hear DH having piano lesson and him saying Silkiecat you can't sit on me now, Silkiecat get off the piano are you trying to play it?

EggyPegg · 16/11/2020 19:48

I have just been grinning like a loon at this thread that I'm on. People are genuinely lovely.

Cat1 is asleep on my lap and DH is doing the bedtime story tonight (we are reading Prisoner of Azkaban so we alternate nights) leaving me free to Mumsnet.

I can't believe we're almog on to thread 7. 6000 messages of loveliest. I feel like I'm amongst friends.

Almost on and loveliness.
My phone went rogue.

PersisFord · 16/11/2020 20:03

Lovely updates everyone - congratulations on engagements, home school, pets and nice food. This is EXACTLY the kind of news I need in my day.

Absolutely nothing of any interest has happened here. Oh, I painted the skirting boards in the hallway at the weekend. Took AGES. They look nice but will be scuffed and trashed soon I’m sure!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2020 20:51

DH wanted to bake an apple cake but the yeast has gone off - now they are eating the apples without the cake.

I am heating water for a hot water bottle for my bed.

TrickyD · 16/11/2020 21:28

Thank you MissConductUS and PersisFord for your kind engagement remarks.

I am fairly new to this thread, but as we have a very lovely rescue cat and I do Duo every day, I feel at home.

PersisFord · 16/11/2020 21:42

@TrickyD you sound perfect!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2020 21:46

Hello to all the fellow Duolinguisti Grin
I started to help DD with her Russian, and then I thought I could revive the languages I ought to have knowledege of and then I got carried away.
I do babbel on the side for the languages I am serious with.

It's great fun.

rosieb060 · 16/11/2020 21:52

We were going to freeze the end of yesterday's lasagne. But we ate it for tea instead.

My husband ate it with cheese, me without.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/11/2020 22:11

I have just asked DM for membership of the National Front for Christmas. She took the request from her only daughter for membership of a far right group rather well all things considered Grin

I have also done some ironing and put salt in the dishwasher.

Spent a day being a teacher and an evening studying. No good at either. The course is supposed to lead to a job, but I don’t see how. Its no good learning that I need to be able to do some things, but not how to do them.

MissConductUS · 16/11/2020 22:59

@TrickyD - Welcome, so glad you could join us! Smile The cat is not required but probably helps.

From time to time someone addresses me on this thread as "OP" and it takes me a few seconds to remember that my posts show up shaded in green to all of you. I didn't start the first of these threads and consider myself nothing more than a part time hostess. Fortunately, everyone here has lovely manners.

@Nomnomarrgh - What may I ask are you studying? I'm sorry it seems to be a hard slog at the moment.

By the way, my sutures came out very easily. The nurse informed me that they are Gore-Tex and don't irritate the tissue at all.

Now I have to get DH started on pizza making.

Principles of Business Administration. I think its one of these new courses being pushed by the government to get people into work.

EggyPegg · 16/11/2020 23:58

DH and I just watched The Untouchables. It was my first time. He is affronted that I said it was cheesy.

I am crocheting and Cat1 is asleep under the blanket.

Welcome @TrickyD to the loveliest threads on MN (or even the internet?)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/11/2020 06:41

The workmen outside have started at 7.
You will be glad to hear that their compressor is running smoothly.

No rain.

SilkieRabbits · 17/11/2020 07:34

DH is still asleep, not heard anything from DD so suspect she is too. DS has been out to feed the silkie chickens and open their hatch and then he came upstairs - he was very wobbly on his feet. He says he feels fine, just tired. I told him he looked like our cat who is 15 and wobbly and he seemed happy and started meowing.

willowtree66 · 17/11/2020 07:37

DH has gone to work 😁 so I have the bed almost to myself - currently sharing with the cat and two of my dogs. No plans on getting up too soon as have work tonight. And apparently it's raining.

Champagneforeveryone · 17/11/2020 07:58

DH has left for work and DS is eating breakfast, while simultaneously berating ChampagneCat for poking her nose in it.

I have to get up to take him to college (because when he was younger and still qualified for free school transport we thought it was a great idea to move into a rural village with no buses) After that I could go back to bed, alas I am solely in charge of taking delivery of DS's drum kit which is arriving today. The image of me having to explain that I missed the delivery because I was in bed is horrific enough that I shall devote the day to housework instead

Spudlet · 17/11/2020 07:58

Bit late @TrickyD, but congratulations!

@MissConductUS I didn’t know they made sutures out of gore-tex, every day a school day here. Glad they came out easily. How’s your DM doing today?

Today we are upping the ante and trying Teams Bingo as part of homeschool. I’m not sure how this is going to go, but we’ll give it a shot! 4 days to go, 4 days to go...

Hm2020 · 17/11/2020 09:49

I accidentally told someone I was in love with them last night they didn’t say it back Blush

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 17/11/2020 11:04

@Hm2020 what happened?! That might be too exciting a post !

Cold run this morning, felt fantastic to be out and my legs were on fine form.

Quiet day working from home so did some cooking :

have used up the dry leftovers of Brioche and made a Brioche pudding.. have a ton of eggs to use us up too so added, milk, vanilla extract a large glug of rum. Not sure what it'll taste like but I get fed up of throwing out the end of Brioche (made in bread machine and no one here to eat it when my DDs are gone).
Also made broccoli and leek soup, a cheesy leek quiche for tonight and DH will have fried eggs and chips for lunch which are browning nicely in the oven as i type. Havent felt the urge to cook for a while so made the most of it, must do some actual work work this afternoon Blush

Champagneforeveryone · 17/11/2020 11:42

hm2020 if it makes you feel any better, when I first said it to DH (he had been saying it for a while already) he ran away ConfusedGrin

MissConductUS · 17/11/2020 12:42

Spudlet My oral surgeon is very modern, with all of the latest dental gadgets, including memory foam patient chairs. I don't know if the gore-tex sutures are just used in dental work or not. I do know that when an aortic aneurism is repaired they do so with a gore-tex sleeve. I didn't hear from DB yesterday so I'll text him this morning to see how mum is. He said he'd be in touch if there was any change, so I assume she's still okay. Her GP's office knows I need to be notified of any changes as well.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse It was -1 degrees here this morning when I ran. It felt good when I was done, but there's one hill on my route that is going to kill me someday. Smile

Hm2020 Sorry you had that lack of reaction. I think sometimes it's just harder for some people to verbalize their feelings, especially if they've had past relationships that haven't ended well. Thanks for sharing in any case.

Now I have some questions for the thread hivemind. See the picture. This creature did not arrive in that box, as he clearly doesn't fit in it. Does he want to be sent someplace? Is he hiding? What is going on in that cat's mind?
