My DH's birthday today. We did a crossword, then the kids came and he opened presents, then my dd and I watched church and DH fell back asleep.

Lunch in a bit - hummus and pitta mainly.

TenCornMaidens · 15/11/2020 11:22

Blackcurrant curd sounds amazing.

I am trialling contact lenses and basically hate them so far. Can't really see and now everyone can see the massive bags under my eyes.

ladygracie · 15/11/2020 11:30

I love the sound of the 10 biscuit varieties!
I am just about to have a shower but am very nervous of leaving the cat downstairs unattended. She has wee’d on my sofa every day for the past 3 days and I am so sick of cleaning it. There is now only one place to sit while the other cushions dry. 😬🤞😬🤞

EggyPegg · 15/11/2020 11:36

Happy birthday Mr. CornMaidens!

KiposWonderbeasts · 15/11/2020 11:42

Today’s highlight will be finishing off the massive cheese board selection we bought to celebrate DH’s birthday yesterday.

Also a fair bit of laundry and ignoring the state of the place.

MissConductUS · 15/11/2020 12:27

As a treat, I've just had a bacon and cheddar omelet instead of my usual breakfast of yogurt, fruit and granola. It was very good.

While driving DD to work this morning we discussed her plans for the spring semester. She is going to apply to the university to be on campus, starting in January. They have said they will have up to 60% of the students back and classes will be in person or virtual at the choice of the instructor. A poll they did recently indicated that only about 50% of students want to be on campus, so she will very likely be offered a place.

I think we'll have to see what's happening with the pandemic in January. If it's really bad they may continue to close. I am happy for DD as I know she really wants to stop doing uni in her bedroom at home and be a proper student on campus. Her brother will be here with us, so it will be essentially a swap of the DC.

In some rather distressing news, I found out yesterday that my 91 year old mum has tested positive for covid. She got it from her home health aide, who comes in daily to help her with various activites. The good news is that other than a stuffy nose she's asymptomatic and the sinus congestion could be due to something else. She's seen her doctor who has told her to quarantine at home and will retest her in three weeks.

My working hypothesis is that because her HHA was masked while in her home she was infected but with a very low viral load. We'll see how she does. It's a very unpredictable disease.

DD had the first part of the crisis talk with her DB - he is ready to go back on medication and will apologize to his teachers - thank heaven!
She is really good at this, always has been great with other peoples problems.

I will invest in a portable (well rollable) electric heater.

HelloDulling · 15/11/2020 12:36

Have just made a batch of mincemeat. The whole house smells divine.

MissConductUS · 15/11/2020 13:16

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Why did your DS discontinue his medications in the first place? Will he be able to retake his exams?

soddingkitten · 15/11/2020 13:37

Sodding has had his spot-on flea treatment. I’m now wondering if he’s been distancing this week because he’s been itchy and uncomfortable. He’s usually so sociable that him spending so much time alone was odd. 🤞

I also bought a teaser toy that someone had abandoned by the till, a chunky feather lure on the end of a particularly long fishing pole/elastic line set-up. He’s mad for it. We all agree it’s triggered a deep-seated predator instinct, as his level of focus is frightening, Terminator-like. We just had to hide it because he was so frantic chasing it that he was panting at one point. The feathers will be lucky if they make it to bedtime. 😧

SpeedofaSloth · 15/11/2020 14:19

I have some new cushion covers.

We had little gingerbread chocolate heart Christmas biscuit things for pudding, they were from Aldi and were very nice.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/11/2020 14:33

@MissConductUS
He decided he could do without and - apparently - does not talk with his therapist about private things, so he agreed. If everything fails DS may repeat the year.
Abitur: the grades of 4 semesters in mod.history, 2 MFL, 3 sciences, german, maths, geography, RE, arts + the results of the centrally set exams in his chosen subjects (english, biology, maths and geography) + a written paper all combine into the final grade.
Turns out he never learned how to learn!

Lebkuchen? I like the gingerbread, but find the icing far too sweet. Sodding, are you going to buy him one of those flipping fish for Christmas?
TenCornMaidens · 15/11/2020 14:58

@MissConductUS I'm so sorry to hear about your Mum. Sincerely hope she continues to be asymptomatic. Will she manage without help for three weeks?

Take refuge in the sound of my DH talking to his oldest friend upstairs on Zoom, my dd doing close-up photography art homework (of my actual EYE. WHY.) and my ds hitting a tennis-trainer-ball-on-an-elastic thing repeatedly outside while I drink tea.

soddingkitten · 15/11/2020 15:15

Sodding, are you going to buy him one of those flipping fish for Christmas?

His favourite toys are airborn teaser sticks like one one I bought earlier and scrunched up balls of paper, wine bottle corks and the plastic security collar that comes off hummous pots, so we don’t bother buying ground-based toys. Those fish look like great fun, but Sodding loves catching things midair best and I don’t think he’d play with it. If he ever makes a kill in our urban garden we think he will be a bird slayer. 😕

Squirrel26 · 15/11/2020 15:24

My dog has a bigger and tougher lure toy version. He LOVES it - he's got a very strong prey drive. Hmm

I need to go and deal with some washing.

soddingkitten · 15/11/2020 15:24

Also sorry to hear about your Mum MissConduct. I hope she gets through it without any major upsets. A colleague’s elderly aunt was tested as a precaution when she was admitted to hospital in March after a fall and tested positive, despite only having mild GI symptoms and nothing respiratory. It sounds like some older people have a milder infection and pull through fine. I hope your Mum is one of them.

MissConductUS · 15/11/2020 15:34

@TenCornMaidens Thank you. We certainly hope it continues to be a mild case, but there is often a worsening of symptoms at 7-10 days from infection. We'll see. My Dbrother, who lives much closer to her than I do, will be looking in on her and we're trying to find a HHA who is antibody positive with presumptive immunity to take over the case. She's not very good about wearing a mask and doesn't really understand what all of the fuss is about. I'm obviously quite concerned about her. The prognosis at 91 isn't great.

@soddingkitten The fishing pole toys are very popular but have a limited lifespan. May I recommend an inexpensive laser pointer? Ours love to chase to red dot. Grin

@MissConductUS, I’m so sorry your mum and her care worker have tested positive. I hope your mum stays asymptomatic and that they both make a speedy recovery.
@Prokupatuscrakedatus, I’m pleased that your son has agreed to go back on his medication - hopefully, he will have a better year.
I have watched a holiday romcom on Netflix. I am sucker for a rome com and enjoyed it.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/11/2020 15:58

Miss All the best to your DM and her carer.

Nydi He was ill advised to ever have stopped, but he has competence. He'll restart from tomorrow. I asked him why he thought I was taking thyroid medication - it's not doping.

It's already dark outside.

Frownette · 15/11/2020 16:00

@EggyPegg

Cat1 is sat with her tongue out.
Looks beautiful! Even sticking tongue out.

I'm trying to plan for tomorrow as I need to pick up an electric scooter and a vacuum cleaner.

Really worried about one of my friends as she's in a similar situation to Caroline Flack, I can see her fading a little. She seems to think she's worthless if this goes ahead to court and this is not the case.

SilkieRabbits · 15/11/2020 16:04

Sorry to hear about your Mum MissC, hope she can fight it off.

Having a lamb roast for lunch then clotted cream ice cream.

I asked DH to fit a new light I had bought for the bedroom as old one from old lady who used to live here and doesn't go. He got old one off fine but hadn't turned electricity off and got a small electrical shock. I told him to turn electricity off and he said yes that might be a good idea Hmm then did it. But he found 5 wires instead of 3 so and can't put old one back or new one on so its in darkness.

Been looking at new flooring for living room as between DS and the rabbit the carpet is getting trashed but its difficult as rabbits eat anything except tiles, laminate and vinyl and its a really old house so only tiles would match but both the rabbit and the DS are clumsy. Plus expect whatever will be trashed. So maybe shouldn't bother. Would like a solution for post as well as rabbit eats it. DD suggested a box for on the door but struggling to find them online that are solid, they must be called a name but can't find it.

sueelleker · 15/11/2020 16:15
