The new phonics format worked extremely well. We have finished ‘school’ for the day now because we are both a bit frazzled - we have done plenty I think, and also buzzed to the supermarket and back. DS has clearly had enough so he’s flicking through a picture book while I collapse in a heap. In between education and shopping I have also done three loads of washing and spot cleaned the carpet. We have a virtual parents evening tonight so fingers crossed all is going well 🤞

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2020 15:07

I just finished work (from home). We were informed we can go back to the office / school on Friday.

I am heating up one of DS's emergency pizzas for me to eat.

@Spudlet
Hope you parents evening will be fine.
(mine always were meh to desasterous)

Champagneforeveryone · 16/11/2020 15:17

An Amazon order for some black card has just been delivered so I can bedeck my front window (I was clearly in a good mood and not thinking straight when I agreed to be part of the village advent calendar window thing Hmm)

DH and DS are both out of the house at the same time tomorrow - to everyone else that will fit perfectly with the boring ethos of this thread. For me OTOH, this is a rare event which has caused me great anticipation and excitement Grin

MissConductUS · 16/11/2020 15:20

@Sheusedtobesomeonelse Cats can be very moody creatures. We had one who would get so mad at us when we went on holiday (with a cat sitter coming in of course) that she would pretend that she couldn't see us for a day or two when we returned.

Your Dcat is very handsome. I've attached a picture of two of mine when they were kittens, about 10 years ago.

I'm a bit shocked that we've almost filled up this thread so quickly.

My pizza is ready.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 16/11/2020 15:27

@MissConductUS those kitties!!! Real chocolate box stuff!!
Yes, my boy gets taken to a 5 star cat hotel when we go away.. he ignores us for a week afterwards, but will come and tell us off for leaving him with his loud purrs when he forgets he's sulking Grin

@Spudlet Good luck with the parents evening, i' m not sure i have the strength of caracter to do it online !! I'm such a wuss about things like that!!

TrickyD · 16/11/2020 15:42

Lovely news for us; DS2 and his DP called and told us they had decided to get married. We like her a lot, and are delighted.

Nydj · 16/11/2020 15:52

Ds wants Indian chickpea flour pancakes(pudlas) so I said I’d make them tonight. That’s it - that is as exciting as it got round here today.

Spudlet · 16/11/2020 16:25

I’ve lit the fire. Didn’t have much kindling left so trying to get it going without having to go to the garage for more. If it fails, DH will be in full-on helpful pointers and tips mode Hmm [Wills wood to burn ala Granny Weatherwax]

TenCornMaidens · 16/11/2020 16:29

Congratulations @TrickyD how absolutely lovely

sueelleker · 16/11/2020 16:30

I bought some Hotel Chocolat latte sachets for the Velvetiser my DH bought me as a belated birthday present. I had a chocolate latte (aka mocha) It was lovely.

TrickyD · 16/11/2020 16:48

Thank you TenCornMaidens. Yes, we are very happy for them. DS has given her an antique diamond engagement ring and they hope to get married after Covid has settled down.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2020 17:00

I think I'll give work another go for a couple of hours later in the evening.

(I am on a 264 day duoling streak and quietly happy about this.)

Goslowlysideways · 16/11/2020 17:01

I descaled the kettle AND the iron!!

MissConductUS · 16/11/2020 17:03

That's great news @TrickyD and if they get married soon you'll save a lot by having a very small wedding. Smile

Mine are 18 and 20 so I hope to have a few years before having to deal with this.

DH is making bacon and pepperoni pizza tonight. I can't wait.

Ooh prokupatus that's very impressive, I'm only on 110

I was over 200 last year and was at a summer camp with our scout group. The mobile data was particularly poor that night so I gave up and utilised my streak freeze but it didn't go through !! When I woke up the next morning I was back on 0 and was so incensed I gave up in a huff (DS refers to it as "mum being salty")

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2020 17:22

Champagne
I feel for you - I had this happen once, at day 60.
I now have the little green package of guilt (formerly known as owl) threatening me several times a day.

Spudlet · 16/11/2020 17:38

Ooh, I had to delete Duolingo. The app refused to understand my accent and the owl kept harassing me 😑

Parents evening was ok! DS is settling in well and gaining in confidence, although he struggles a bit to concentrate sometimes. He also occasionally sneaks off into the cupboard where the ukuleles live Grin But generally it all seems pretty positive. His teacher is going to talk to the SENCO about applying for an EHCP for him (extra funding for his additional needs and some legal obligations to accommodate his needs - although his school are being great about that at the moment anyway. But future ones might not be).

Taswama · 16/11/2020 17:41

Thanks for the reminder to do my Duo. I have 3 languages on the go so can pick one depending on my mood and how much of a challenge I want. I have only restarted recently though when it told me that DS1 (one of my two 'friends') had overtaken me!

SilkieRabbits · 16/11/2020 17:46

Homeschool day 3 of covid isolation for DS who seems to have decided it should now be a holiday. I managed to read Of Mice and Men extract to him but that was it all day - he is suffering severe hearing loss and apparently also needs to go to the toilet every 5 minutes both of which appear triggered by the mention of schoolwork. Plus he is suffering from the slump where schoolwork is mentioned and you just collapse and slump and make a whining noise.

DD went on a run after school and then to the supermarket and bought chocolates which she can't eat as she's vegan apparently as they were part of her childhood. Grin Sure DS will be happy.

DH is about to have piano lesson. Solicitors is held up with compliance. Trying to get electrician round once DS's isolation has finished so can have some light in bedroom again.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 16/11/2020 17:57

Good news that your DM is still doing OK. Hopefully she will remain asymptomatic.

I had a bad cup of coffee today. It was from a cafe that I've been going to since it opened about 10 years ago and their coffee is normally excellent, not as good as the stuff I make at home but still really good. They're only doing take-aways at the moment obviously, so I got one for myself and my friend at the end of our walk. I haven't seen the barista before so she might be new. My black americano was too weak and my friend's cappuccino was more of a latte.

ReallySpicyCurry · 16/11/2020 18:07

You've just reminded me I need to catch up on duolingo too. I'm learning Ukrainian. We're visiting hopefully in summer 2020 and I'm determined to be reasonably fluent,as we're going to be going off the beaten track a bit. It's tricky to work out the different letters/sounds etc in Cyrillic on top of it though. I really need a good old fashioned grammar/vocab list to go along with it. I was quite good at languages in school but I'm totally crap now.

ReallySpicyCurry · 16/11/2020 18:08

Summer 2022 that should be. Summer 2020 wishful thinking

soddingkitten · 16/11/2020 18:39

Don’t be too envious MissConduct. It’s been raining heavily here all day, so the head bump was soggy and he walked across my work notebook leaving a trail of smudged ink. I laughed when DS arrived home from school dripping wet and stroked Sodding, leaving him with a soggy head. 😆
