I have my new glasses. As they are a "designer" Cath Kidson pair they have come in a ludicrous case that I would be mortified to be seen in public with.

Helocariad · 12/11/2020 14:41

Jackass is the word @ThatIsNotMyUsername

@Champagneforeveryone your post reminds me I need to push my optician's for an eye test as my eyes have deteriorated since the first lockdown and I'm getting annoyed at myself trying to read the back of DVDs and swearing at the small print Grin

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 12/11/2020 14:54

Champagne - I just got a new pair from the Kylie Minogue range. Dame Edna would love the case - pink glitter - DS almost pees himself when he saw it and asked if they were from the Barbie doll collection (after checking the the glasses weren’t also pink and sparkly, which they are not).

PenguinsOnParade · 12/11/2020 15:42

DH has decided to remove the basin from the sink while washing dishes as he can fit more water into the sink. He's just learned why I use the basin as all the water has drained out as the sink plug doesn't fit very well. He's always used the basin before so not sure why he decided to change it today.

DDog also thought a basin covered in soapy bubbles on the floor would be a great thing to try and lick apparently.

Frownette · 12/11/2020 15:51

I was getting quite annoyed earlier as there are very few places you can buy kitchen knives. I tried a few places with no joy then tried wilkos, shelves empty, so went to the hardware shop.

I was saying that I didn't understand why it was so difficult to buy and I wanted to stab carrots, not people, and the bloke quite rightly smiled and ignored my mutterings.

Anyway it's a kitchen devil with 10 year guarantee so hopefully that's the end of kitchen knife drama for a few years (last one flipped over into the oven).

SilkieRabbits · 12/11/2020 15:53

I've been doing home ed with DS today and he's been great - we did a computing assessment and he got 94% which is excelling, French and English as well as general chatting about news. Computing teacher was amazed as he does nothing in lessons just listens. He told me he doesn't like computing on computers just on paper but wants to take the GCSE - not sure about computing without a computer Hmm

Having another mulled wine and some more Waitrose mince pies. 5 more home ed days to go. DD has just gone for a run.

DS is happiest have seen him in ages. DH is on his second nap of the day. Papers are at the solicitors for the house sale.

Had a buzzy fly on the window - he buzzed round the room and accelerated and crashed into window then did the same again before giving up and just climbing the window. Plan to break window failed. Big headache now.

After several weeks of chasing we finally got the council to pick up my husband's sharps bins. We had quite a collection in our little flat

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 6: Calmly through the day
Mariebarrone · 12/11/2020 16:24

Just did the canal walk litter pick up and collected a whole bin bag full of rubbish.
That’s the 6th large bin bag full of rubbish dh and I have collected on our walks this week.
Why do people drop litter?

sueelleker · 12/11/2020 16:33

Me too - what a jackass! Like father, like son then.

Spudlet · 12/11/2020 16:34

The power is back on, phew. DS has had quite a good day of home learning, the teams meeting bit blew his mind again but the rest was ok. He managed some good work on his phonics, did some ‘reading’ to ddog, spotted shapes on our walk in the woods and did some number work - putting them into the right order, and drawing the appropriate number of spots onto his whiteboard. The SENCO has been in touch as well so I’m going to email her about the Teams issue and see if DS can have an alternative.

So today I have run (walked a fair bit because a new part of leg started complaining - I’m thinking of just hopping next time), home educated, walked with DS and ddog, been forced to do Cosmic Kids Yogs (DS shouted at me every time I tried to skip a bit), and now I need to get cooking dinner when DH has finished peeling the potatoes. It doesn’t sound much when you write it out but I’m shattered!

sueelleker · 12/11/2020 16:34

@Bells3032. Won't your local pharmacy or hospital take them? Or can't you get out?

Bells3032 · 12/11/2020 16:36

@suelleker nope, I've rung over 20 pharmacies and they won't take them. Used to drop them at the GP but apparently new rule and they won't take them anymore. It's been a nightmare

tootyfruitypickle · 12/11/2020 17:21

I’ve finally managed to make Alexa British again, and she can find radio 2 again now 😁

TenCornMaidens · 12/11/2020 17:36

I have sharps bin issues as well but thinking about it will get me riled up.

My DH is chronically ill (as am I) and his poorliness is really pissing me off today. But he did do loads of flatpack so I aibu.

I took a blanket out of the tumble dryer and am sat under it soaking up all the warmth. Boiler replaced tomorrow, hurrah.

I thought that, it's terrible what people drop/throw out of car windows. It's not that hard to cling onto it until you get to a bin.
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/11/2020 17:53

750 pupils at DS's school -1 gets C - and guess who he was sitting next, too? Exactly - DS (AS/ADHD, though quite clever - thinks he's on holiday and the crisis talk he had with his mentor did not impress him, either).
My boss suggested I'd work from home.
The amount of work you get done when nobody disturbs you with 'can you even' or 'we need to now' is amazing!

TrickyD · 12/11/2020 18:53

I wrapped some presents. In my head were elegant parcels under the tree. The reality is I am at useless at wrapping. Keep losing the end of the sellotape and having to scratch to start it again. Then some accidentally sticks to the wrapped parcel and takes some of the paper's print off when I remove it. Finger prints on the gold paper. Fed up. Still quite a few to go.

SpeedofaSloth · 12/11/2020 18:56

I have found some chocolate Brussels sprouts for the Christmas stockings in Aldi. They are squirreled away under my bed for now.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 12/11/2020 19:09

TrickyD I feel for you.
Clingfilm is even worses.

HitchikersGuide · 12/11/2020 19:13

I've been reading Dc's YA books instead of 'proper adult' books. So much fun!

MissConductUS · 12/11/2020 19:23

I assume these are a joke gift, right?

I've had a British Siri for ages but had no idea I could do the same with Alexa, thanks!

@SilkieRabbits You clearly need one of these:

The Executioner Fly Killer Mosquito Swatter Racket Wasp Bug Zapper Indoor Outdoor Over 50cm Long

Living out in the woods as we do ours gets quite a workout. It's really effective and makes a loud pop when it zaps the bug. DD loves it so much that she's going to take one to uni, if and when she gets to go.

@Taswama - thank you for the clarification on the pants issue. When the usage is regional it's confusing for me as I have no idea what region any of you are in. Whatever they're called, I'm loving my new ones. I think I'll put one of their jackets on my Christmas list.

Not much news here. I have to stay a few extra hours at work tonight, which I'm not thrilled about but it is what it is. The weather has gone back from spring like to cold and wet.

Chocolate sprouts? How? Why? Do you mean formed as - or covered in?

PenguinsOnParade · 12/11/2020 19:56

I got chocolate sprouts from M&S last year. Those ones were just chocolate balls with a sprout printed foil.

Watching Kendra on Top l I didn’t even realise it was back on ..or is it the same one that I watched years ago ?
Lockdown is making me watch stupid stuff .. Mummy diaries ? Ffs
DH just gave me £250 ..very odd I asked him “ why you so guilty who’s minge are you sticking it in “ he says he’s not , I believe him , he says it’s because I’m always complaining I’m poor. I do , but I’m not , I’m frivolous . Champagne lifestyle on lemonade money
I used one of the sites that was in the small businesses thread chasing up coffee I made an order on 5th November and not received yet
Discovered Mimosas and Buck’s Fizz ARE THE SAME THING !!!! My fun fact of the day ..I’m literally blown away ..the simple things ..I didn’t even know this so started mimosas drinking at 3pm today as I had a bottle of Prosecco and a carton of orange laying about ..it IS Buck’s Fizz
Thinking about dinner tomorrow.. it looks like it’s gonna be the local chicken shop . I’m on furlough so am enjoying cooking in the evening again when I’d normally be working but can’t figure out what to get out of the freezer so chicken shop it is , I don’t want it , I had their spicy wings for lunch today
A bit disappointed my son has jacked in a £2800 course he signed up for in September, he’s frivolous like me , sighs now he’s lumbered with the cost of a course he’s not attending and can’t get a refund on
Been eyeing up that gin the one that lights up on the m&s advert but don’t want to get there tomorrow and they don’t have any ,I don’t know if it’s always on the shelves or flies off the shelves , I can’t seem to order it on click and collect , it’s not an essential item so won’t bother going there just for gin
Wondering how long I can get away with wearing my nightie before I start to smell ...I got to 10 days before .. I like these little experiments

sueelleker · 12/11/2020 20:15

@DramaLlama12; I always think mimosa sounds prettier than Bucks Fizz. If you use peach juice instead, it's a Bellini.
