I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

DS and I were held up on our journey home by a big builders merchant delivery truck reversing off a narrow road into a small drive. Impressive skills from the driver. DS was enthralled.

We have socially distanced fireworks tonight - the parish council are setting them off from the church so we can all watch them from home. There’s a big line of trees between us and the church so we will have to walk across a field to watch them from the farm track. And we have some sparklers and glo-sticks, they were selling little kits to raise money for a new playground. I feel really lucky to live where we do, sometimes.

I'm thinking about shaving my legs and armpits.

It's been at least a week and a half.

Taswama · 05/11/2020 16:29

Yes, I'm pretty sure I am busy on the night of the Christmas party. Having a meal out with drinks is one thing, I have no desire to get drunk at home with colleagues on Zoom!

That sounds lovely Spudlet. I am jealous!

Champagneforeveryone · 05/11/2020 16:37

I went for a nap after dropping DS at college- woke up 5 hours later Grin

DH is not back from work yet, I anticipate much teeth gnashing and in depth explanations of How Hard He Has Been Working when he finally makes an appearance.

DS is playing American Idiot which makes a nice change from Metallica. He's just finished explaining the finer points of the guitar he's coveting to me (again) I smiled and made positive noises.

Both the dishwasher and the washing machine are on at the same time, and I have set the robot hoover off to do its job. It's quite the picture of domestic bliss Chez Champagne.

I don't drink, so my only fun at these parties is observing others make the transition from sober to tipsy to (sometimes) intoxicated. I doubt it would be any fun on Zoom.

Most organizations in the US have modified the celebrations to make them less boozy anyway because of the drunk driving liablity issue.

DD went to her GP to have diverse niggles checked out. She is in constant low level back pain since she fell on her backside skating (her first and last time doing so) some years ago.
They refered her straight on to an orthopaedist to have her hip and knees checked out.

Sadly no Christmas do for our office (no 30 year celebration etc either). We usually have a very good meal out and people use public transport. I was looking forward to the desert buffet.

MistressIggi · 05/11/2020 19:58

Took ds for a walk round the block to watch other people's fireworks. Made him happy (and me cold!)

nancybotwinbloom · 05/11/2020 21:06

I love these threads.

The wood I ordered is delayed by a few days

SpeedofaSloth · 05/11/2020 21:29

Ammonia spike in aquarium, lost a guppy. Did a big water change and will do a second one later.

soddingkitten · 05/11/2020 21:56

@Squirrel26

I have the theme tune from ‘Fresh Prince Of Bel Air’ stuck in my head.

And now all of you do too. Grin

🎼 Boom boom shake the room! Tick, tick, boooooom!

(Fixed that for you. 😉)

soddingkitten · 05/11/2020 22:11

Oops. Just seen MissConduct’s cure. 😀

Lovely neighbour messaged me about keeping Sodding in, as she had builders in her garden and her gate was open (access to a busy road). She mentioned he’d already been round for a potter in her kitchen this morning (and probably a helping of Shyboy’s breakfast). 😱

I hosted my first large online meeting with breakout rooms today and it all went fine.

I made a pot of vanilla tea to drink at my desk during an interminable online meeting and forgot about it even though it was right in front of me. I drank it all lukewarm as the tea is so damned expensive.

HelenaJustina · 06/11/2020 06:32

The fact that it is Fri-Yay and therefore I can drink gin tonight, is far too exciting for this thread. So I shall stick with the update that I did our weekly shop yesterday evening and there were no empty shelves and it was pleasingly quiet.

soddingkitten · 06/11/2020 07:16

I had gin on Wednesday and Thursday this week. With everything else going on, it seemed necessary.

I have to go in to the office today. I just got up early to make a packed lunch as all the sandwich shops in my part of the city are closed due to COVID/lack of footfall.

soddingkitten · 06/11/2020 07:18

Oh, and I have an annoying twitch at the upper left side of my mouth so I’ll doing an Elvis sneer all day. It’s usually a sign that I need more sleep.

TrickyD · 06/11/2020 08:06

Just sent DH off to Lidl while it is likely to be quiet. Asked him to get me some slippers, (old ones have become a trip hazard), wrapping paper ‘try to find something tasteful’ (no chance ) gingerbread ice-cream and two packs of marzipan.

sueelleker · 06/11/2020 08:32

@Prokupatuscrakedatus; Some years ago I slipped on a wet grassy slope whilst dog-walking, and slightly displaced one of my upper vertebrae. It still niggles from time to time, and I have regular chiropractic treatment to re-align it.

TrickyD · 06/11/2020 08:56

Postscript to DH’s Lidl trip: no paper, no marzipan, no gingerbread icecream, but I have slippers safe to wear.

TheBeeatAmbridge · 06/11/2020 09:09

I love these threads, and am joining in for the first time.

I made date and apple squares yesterday, a regular bake in our house, but added a bit of mincemeat and they were very good.

A cable will arrive this morning to connect my PC to a monitor that is actually a TV. I'm looking forward to having two screens.

hamstersarse · 06/11/2020 09:29

I got a new fan heater for my home office. My feet are super toastie but I fear I may have napped before lunchtime.

Spudlet · 06/11/2020 10:33

I’ve just called the local sewing shop and ordered all the bits to make a reusable advent calendar for DS. They posted a load of pictures of Facebook and they look really nice, plus it means we won’t be sending more junk to landfill from buying plastic and cardboard ones every year. Im quite excited about it!

I was all set to give ddog a haircut, but then DH came downstairs and offered me a coffee instead, so ddog has a short reprieve before he gets defluffed. It sounds a bit mean at this time of year but he gets really soggy and clogged up with mud, so he’ll be more comfortable with a bit less hair. Then I will venture out to collect my booty from the shop, and I also need to give purls pushchair a good scrubbing as a friend is due to have her first baby soon and I offered it to her as a mucking about in the fields pram (they have many animals!). It’s not the prettiest pram and it had a hard life, but it is very sturdy and good off-road.

Spudlet · 06/11/2020 11:51

Et voila. Spuddog, and his fluff!

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 6: Calmly through the day
sueelleker · 06/11/2020 12:28

I thought he must be a spaniel when you said how soggy and clogged up he gets! An author who writes mysteries involving gun-dogs (Gerald Hammond) once said that God must have made spaniels and sponges on the same day. (I've got a springer and a sprocker)

Spudlet · 06/11/2020 13:21

Gundog mystery books? I must find these!

Spud is retired now, but he has dabbled in the world of gundog work - there is somewhere a picture of me carrying him home because the last drive took place in a flooded fen and he got so cold and wet he went on strike as soon as we finished! (A few fruit pastilles and a bit of a carry and he soon regained his sense of humour though). It does seem crazy that dogs bred to work as they do have such rubbish coats in the wet 🙄

HitchikersGuide · 06/11/2020 13:31

My bath water this morning was just a little bit too hot.

Sheusedtobesomeonelse · 06/11/2020 13:44

I have just picked up DD2 from school and have to go back in two hours for DD1 who was in a foul mood earlier, i really just want to leave her there (but she'd probably be pleased!).
No weekend plans due to covid and yet another lockdown weekend... apart from tidying out kitchen shelves and drawers. I do have new cider to ry and a bottle of rosé in the fridge if i'm feeling crazy. woop!
