I had a productive day. The guidance released at 3.35pm, which comes into force tomorrow, is not going to cause too many headaches at work or rewriting of Risk Assessments. This is a Good Thing.

PersisFord · 04/11/2020 20:08

EXCELLENT Christmas ideas everyone, thank you!!! We discussed them this evening and we have a Plan. Also he apparently LOVES mince pies and Christmas pudding so we might make mincemeat - that’s nice and Christmassy-smelling. I really, really dislike it but I like making mince pies, and it has just dawned on me that the usual providers of mincemeat in the Ford house (my mother in law, husbands aunt, my sister) may not be coming for Christmas so I had perhaps better make my own.

Not sure what to have for supper. Kids and DH ate together earlier so it’s just me. Maybe scrambled eggs if we have bread for toast.

Nosnogginginthekitchen · 04/11/2020 20:13

PersisFord - great name. Anne of green gables yes?

My 5 year old went up avreading level today. She's now turquoise. I am busti g with pride but very few other people will give much of a shit so - I'm bragging here.

SpeedofaSloth · 04/11/2020 20:15

I am sat on another car park waiting for DS. As it is his last football night before lockdown I don't mind too much he will really miss it.

PersisFord · 04/11/2020 20:31

@Nosnogginginthekitchen yes! Anne of green gables. And I give a massive shit about your 5 year old - that’s a brilliant achievement given everything that’s happened to those poor little kids this year.

PersisFord · 04/11/2020 20:32

“I give a massive shit” didn’t exactly come out as I meant it to but you know what I mean, didn’t mean to be rude! Sorry!

Holothane · 04/11/2020 20:32

Got my Christmas Eve slot with Morrison’s that’s our Christmas sorted venison a first, is on the list.

Holothane · 04/11/2020 20:33

Delighted for anyone going up a reading level, well done.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2020 20:49

My DS struggled with reading as he was language delayed. DH and I read with him constantly, got him some tutoring and he caught up. In his year 6 moving up ceremony, he got an award for the student showing the greatest improvement.

We were very proud.

Day three of annual leave has been nicely uneventful. I had to water the plants that were moved around in the garden yesterday. Went to M&S food shop to buy nice flowers to next door neighbour who let us use her garden waste wheelie bin which I managed to fill three times in the last couple of months.
I know it was a while back that you mentioned it but @MissConductUS, I just wanted to say that it is indeed good news that you are going to have your DS home for many months from Thanksgiving.
Well done to your DD, @Nosnogginginthekitchen! I don’t really understand reading bands but turquoise is a lovely colour!

Spudlet · 04/11/2020 21:13

Well done, DD of @Nosnogginginthekitchen! 👍👍

MissConductUS · 04/11/2020 21:22

Thanks @Nydj - It was hard to see him go off to uni in the middle of the pandemic, and even though he's young and healthy I worry about him.

Even the cats miss him. Dcat Daisy goes into his room every so often looking for him.

@MissConductUS, I can only imagine. We are lucky to have had Ds home with us since March. I feel so sad for all the uni students who are having an even stranger experience during COVID than the rest of us - at least they are in the UK.

mathanxiety · 04/11/2020 21:34

I got the afternoon off and have started my Christmas shopping online. So far there are three items in my cart. I'm not pulling the trigger on them for a few hours, just in case I get some ideas for other DCs.

mathanxiety · 04/11/2020 21:36

DD3's university decided not to open for in-person classes at all, so she has spent much of her first semester out on the deck with her laptop or snoozling on the couch absorbing all that info in the sitting room.

tootyfruitypickle · 04/11/2020 22:03

I went for my daily lunchtime walk around the common here and two very elderly gentleman said hello to me with great gusto. It totally made my day.

soddingkitten · 04/11/2020 22:15

I learned today that Sodding goes in to my lovely neighbour’s house, hangs out in her kitchen & dining room and eats her shy rescue cat’s food. 😯 He’s already on 3 wet pouches a day and has access to dry kitten kibble 24/7 here, so there’s no need. I’m so embarrassed. We have offered to make a contribution towards a chip-controlled cat flap, but she won’t hear of it. She thinks he is very sweet. I don’t have any worries about her spiriting him away, in case anyone is worried. She has loads of integrity and is far too worried about her own rescue getting the hump and moving out. I just can’t believe Sodding is so brazen. He’s only 7 months old too. We’ll be in half our neighbours’ bad books by spring at this rate.

nancybotwinbloom · 04/11/2020 22:17

I bought some cheese and truffle flavour crisp from Sainsbury's before. They are amazing,

hamstersarse · 04/11/2020 22:18

I’ve got clean sheets tonight. Can’t wait to go to bed

This is too exciting. (Adding to this week’s online shop.)

I came on to talk about my clean sheets. I've just got our of the shower and into bed, so have hit that peak of shaved legs/fresh sheets combo. DH said that shaved legs shouldn't be a special occasion. I told him that he just doesn't understand.

This is hilarious. Clearly Sodding is feeling better then.

I agree, and he's also displaying monumental cattitude. This boy is going to be a handful when he grows up.

I just snorted at that.

Thank you for shitting on (for?) my 5 year old Grin

I was obsessed with Anne as a teen. I think 'House of dreams' was my very favourite.
Unless I've just embarrassed myself by pulling that title completely out of my arse. Which is possible as my teens were a couple of decades ago now...

Champagneforeveryone · 05/11/2020 08:04

Rest days have begun!!

I'm feeling reasonably chipper, having slept like Rip Van Winkle through all of yesterday. I will change the sheets later so that I can retire to my bed at 6pm, freshly shaved and showered, to sleep for a good 12 hours. It's one of my favourite parts of night shifts
