I stayed up until 2am watching the US polls close. I am now shattered and have zero enthusiasm for anything.

ChickensMightFly · 04/11/2020 13:44

I went into town to show support for the independents who are affected by lockdown closure, a bit of stocking filler buying, and found a pop up shop of locally resourced goodies for Xmas. It was so nice and I solved a tricky present need.

I did express the opinion here that it would be a few days before we had a winner.

In other news, I watched the first two episodes of season three of HUMANS (sorry, can't do an upside-down A) on Amazon last night. Meeh...

DS got his laptop back from the repair shop yesterday, so he's back in business at uni. We're driving up to Boston to move him home on the 25th.

It was really cold here too this morning, -1 when I went out running. I put my jacket on backward and didn't notice until I tried to put my gloves in the pockets. The other shell and inner lining are both black, so perhaps understandable. I'm still running in shorts, but not for much longer.

You could make a gingerbread house or gingerbread reindeer and decorate them, paper chains or christmas decorations to hang on tree (Hobbycraft has lots of things to make with) or paper snowflakes. Or could start making Christmas cards.

Kljnmw3459 · 04/11/2020 14:12

My dull news of the day is that I had mulled wine last night, it was amazing.

EggyPegg · 04/11/2020 14:33

I have had lunch, a cup of tea and a Penguin bar actually an Aldi Seal bar. My enthusiasm and energy seems to have returned. I have just finished putting away the laundry and am about to get the paint for DS1s room out of the shed, as one of his huge prints came off the wall and took all the paint with it.

CabinPressure · 04/11/2020 15:15

@EggyPegg I was looking at those Seal bars the other day and wondering if they were nice. I haven't had a Penguin bar since my school days.

Have been sorting though a couple of bin bags of old clothes that have been sitting in the spare room for months, waiting to be taken to a charity shop or clothes recycling bin. I'm glad I didn't ever get around to taking them; have found an old shirt of DH's. Lovely soft brushed cotton. I shall be pinching that.

EggyPegg · 04/11/2020 15:19

@CabinPressure They are lovely. Exaxx the same as a Penguin. We buy them for the DC lunchboxes, but I decided that my need was greater today.

I have touched up DS1s wall and am now going to sit with my crochet for a bit. I was listening to an audiobook that I was really enjoying via the RB Digital app (free lending) and it wouldn't let me renew it yesterday. I just went to borrow it again today and someone else has it. I don't want to wait three weeks, so I've just paid £2.99 for the Kindle edition instead.

purrswhileheeats · 04/11/2020 15:28

It rained today. Although this is the first time I've seen rain for seven months so actually quite exciting 😲💦😅

CabinPressure · 04/11/2020 15:33

@EggyPegg Duly noted. I may re-visit the idea of getting some next time I go.

I'm now having a cup of tea in the sunshine.

Springcatkin · 04/11/2020 15:35

I treated myself to a large cappuccino and tiffin in Costa this morning whilst I still could (only my second since Jan!)

Champagneforeveryone · 04/11/2020 16:14

I had a lovely sleep.

DH and DS arrived home (loudly) and DH has informed me that the back door appears to have been left open all day on the coldest day of the year so far So now we know that ChampagneCat (who DH has assiduously kept in since her arrival in July in case she's eaten by a badger or something) has no intention of going outdoors.

I'm still in bed as the house is cold Wink

Gobbledygook20 · 04/11/2020 16:22

Bought a nice bra today before lingerie store closes for lockdown.

Spudlet · 04/11/2020 16:39

Did a run today, sadly the insoles weren’t quite as magic as I’d hoped. Foot is a bit sore but my head feels much better for it, so new plan is foam rolling the legs, ice on the foot, and swap a run for a bike ride so I’m only running twice a week. And shorter distances - today was pushing 5 miles and it would probably have been sensible to keep it shorter. Hoping that will do the trick! 🤞

Christmas cake is in the oven, smelling pretty good. And DS was really cooperative about his writing practice this evening (we often struggle with this) so feeling pretty pleased generally.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2020 16:55

5 miles is a long run. I generally do 3, partly because of time and partly because longer runs aggrevate my torn ligament. There's not much additional cardiovascular benefit after the first 30-40 minutes.

I'm going to take a quick walk outside before lunch. When I was WFH yesterday DD sweet talked me into going to the deli for lunch for us both, so today I have half of a Philly cheesesteak wedge for lunch.

My Apple watch just informed me that I've hit my move goal for 645 consecutive days. Smile

Yes, it was too far. But it’s my favourite route to my favourite coffee shop... I’ll be sticking to 5k or less for the foreseeable though, which is a bit of a bugger but will be worth it to get this foot sorted. And I really have to do some strength work as well. I know what I need to do, it’s just doing it that is the challenge BlushGrin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/11/2020 18:16

Overtime again - adding nicely to my 'time account'. DD is cooking chicken and pasta for her and me. She spent the whole day at (virtual) uni. She finds it exhausting to constantly speak two different languages.

I bought myself a Hungarian grammar to browse in bed.

TheSilveryPussycat · 04/11/2020 18:54

OK, I am a bit excited about this - my circular knitting needles with long points for lace knitting came today. I tried to start the pattern with ordinary needles but it was too awkward. I was surprised and pleased that there are specialised needles.

Hmm. I now have to get going on the pattern again.

Taswama · 04/11/2020 18:57

-1 in shorts! Brrr. Do you have Geordie ancestry @MissConductUS ?
I had leftover (homemade) pizza for lunch. It was rather nice.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/11/2020 19:06

To maintain calm continuity: DH's papers are still on the sofa.

In our first flat we got a carpet delivered. He managed to get used to the rolled up carpet in the middle of our one room. He simply forgot that it was there.

MissConductUS · 04/11/2020 19:19

I had to google "Geordie". Smile

No, mostly Irish and Polish, actually. Is it especially cold in Newcastle or do the people there favor shorts? Perhaps I'll expand my cultural horizons and watch some Ant and Dec. Grin

I know it does sound odd, but when running your body generates a great deal of heat. I use the zipper on my jacket as a thermostat when I run. I open it if I'm too warm and zip it up if I'm cold.

Spudlet · 04/11/2020 19:38

Newcastle residents are famous for not wearing coats on nights out, no matter what the weather is doing. Blizzard, hurricane, impromptu ice age? No matter! Coats are for the weak! Grin

ThatIsNotMyUsername · 04/11/2020 19:47

Mum was always cold! Hearing on full blast but the windows open for fresh air. Hearing on full blast in the car too.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 04/11/2020 19:54

I am a "windows open at night and hot water bottle" person.
And no heating on in the bedroom.

My DMIL still had the copper bed warmer her mother used including the lacy crocheted cover.
