He was my favourite Bond.

My granny used to tell us how she dated him when she was 15 when she worked for the milk man.

Unrepentant about his violence towards women. Treated it as a joke on numerous occasions.

Good riddance.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 31/10/2020 14:20

@Besom

Everyone's granny in Edinburgh has a SC story. He is kind of iconic but shame he was 'problematic' as dd would say.
Boringly predictable, isn't it? Pretty much every girl who was a teenager in Canterbury in the mid 90s claims to have slept with Orlando Bloom. Sure you did, love.

@PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe

Couldn't stick him, frankly. Quite a limited range; tax-avoider; bit slap-happy with the wife. But I suppose he really was an icon, when so few people manage it. It's a shame he's gone.
Bit slap-happy with the wife? We're not in the 1970s now. Very ill-judged turn of phrase.

I must admit, I didn't know about this side of him at all until I saw that video clip. No room for doubt there at all. Is there any evidence at all that he changed his views in later life?

go listen to some chris brown

Very sad to hear this. He was married for over forty years to the love of his life who he adored. He didn't behave well during his first marriage, and changed as he grew older.

Aw that's ok then Hmm

Are you his second wife? How do you know so much about how he changed?

RainbowParadise · 31/10/2020 14:27

And clearly he didn't change going by that video.

Runningdownthathill · 31/10/2020 14:27

Cos I've been googling him since I heard he'd died.

PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 31/10/2020 14:29

No, we're in 2020, at a point where I'd assumed Connery's views, having been floating around for fifty odd years, were well-known . . . 🙄

overnightangel · 31/10/2020 14:31

Thanks Mumsnet for deleting the video I posted which is readily available on YouTube where he talks laughingly on a prime time tv interview about hitting women because they’re not always happy with having the last word. This site is becoming a joke.

Thanks for advocating domestic violence.
Cowardly and shameful on your behalf.

corlan · 31/10/2020 14:31

My Uncle once said Sean Connery had the biggest milk round in Edinburgh - everyone claimed he had been their milkman!

Clarice99 · 31/10/2020 14:32

It never ceases to amaze me at the attitude of some people when someone, who is not particularly nice/abusive etc, dies.

It's as though their past behaviour vanishes upon their death and an flood of 'RIP, so sorry to hear this sad news' type of bollocks makes it all better.

It doesn't.

Sean Connery was a vile man. As soon as his misogyny became known to me, I refused to watch anything he appeared in.

LunaNorth · 31/10/2020 14:34

Why did MNHQ delete that video?

did you ever meet him?
Nightnurse53 · 31/10/2020 14:43

If id slept with Orlando Bloom I wouldnt be bragging about it 😃😃

That interview is shocking. I retract my post further up the thread.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/10/2020 14:55

@LunaNorth

Why did MNHQ delete that video?
I assume because that poster called him a Bad Word alongside posting it
Clarice99 · 31/10/2020 15:09

did you ever meet him? - question from JamminDoughnuts that will not quote (?)

I didn't meet him. Your question is meaningless. I don't need to meet everyone I have an opinion about.

Connery was a misogynist. There was no need for me to meet him to form and hold that opinion. He made his feeling towards women well known.

I haven't met you either. But based on your posts on this thread, it appears that you are an abuser apologist.

HopeClearwater · 31/10/2020 15:10

@JamminDoughnuts

you shouldnt speak ill of the dead, particularly the recently departed

Why? What will happen? Will they come back and haunt you? Or if you leave it about ten years or so, will it be more acceptable then?

Very interested to hear a reasoned argument to back up your crazy assertion.

NiceGerbil · 31/10/2020 15:18

I hope that poster applies the same standard when conversations about Stalin or Dennis Nilsen etc come up...

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 31/10/2020 15:21

What's the reference to Clint Eastwood about?

you are a believer of title tattle and a bore
LunaNorth · 31/10/2020 15:25

You shouldn’t speak ill of the dead?

Is that why there are all those documentaries on Channel 5 about how Hitler was a really nice fella?

And Fred West. Top bloke. Proper grafter.

Hmm
