He was my favourite Bond.

My granny used to tell us how she dated him when she was 15 when she worked for the milk man.

Is there any evidence of him having been a wife beater? Or are you just going by that one quote he gave to Playboy over 50 years ago?

mrsmuddlepies · 31/10/2020 12:51

According to Billy Connelly, he was the only Scotsman to sport brown knees when wearing a kilt.

Rest In Peace Sir Sean.
My dad knew him and his brother slightly as they were both brought up in Fountainbridge area of Edinburgh and were the same age. Sean never forget his roots, and made Edinburgh proud.
The best Bond ever.

'I don't believe that any level of abuse of women is ever justified under any circumstances' Connery speaks for the first time after cancelling his high-profile appearance at Holyrood's Festival of Politics

Fridgeandkitchen · 31/10/2020 12:54

@Gatekeeper

always known as Seen Canary in our house
Us too. Rest In Peace kind man.
PoorMansPaulaRadcliffe · 31/10/2020 12:54

Couldn't stick him, frankly. Quite a limited range; tax-avoider; bit slap-happy with the wife. But I suppose he really was an icon, when so few people manage it. It's a shame he's gone.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 31/10/2020 12:55

The best Bond. He's had a good innings, I didn't realise he was that old, I thought he was in his 70s!

AliceMcK · 31/10/2020 12:56

Not a bond fan (don’t hate me) but loved him in highlander.

TopBitchoftheWitches · 31/10/2020 12:56

There can be only one.

RainbowParadise · 31/10/2020 12:56

Two quotes from the same bbc obituary of Sean Connery:

‘His previous marriage, to the Australian actress, Diane Cilento, had ended in 1975 amid allegations he had been violent towards her and had a string of affairs. They had one son, the actor Jason Connery.’

‘A long overdue knighthood, finally awarded in 2000, was reportedly held up by the Labour government because of his support for Scottish independence.’

I find it hard to reconcile a wife beater being 'long overdue' a knighthood.

hoopdeloop · 31/10/2020 12:57

@OgwdihwO you’re thinking of the film with Billy Connolly and David Tennant 😊

Fridgeandkitchen · 31/10/2020 12:57

I have no idea where kind man came from. Apologies. He wasn’t allegedly. The slapping interview which I think someone has linked.

Stopyourhavering64 · 31/10/2020 12:58

Sad that another legend has gone....He was perfect as Bond
Met him once years ago when I was a student in St Andrews and sold him a pink cashmere jumper .....he was charming and very down to earth...despite me being a gibbering wreck! unfortunately his credit card didn't have 007 anywhere!

woodhill · 31/10/2020 12:59

Really sad, with Diana Rigg so recently RIP Sir Sean😢

Such sad news. Great actor, my favourite Bond. Handsome and dashing.

Plenty f interviews with him on YouTube were he won't back down from his opinion. However he thinks a slap is ok, not a fist.

GabsAlot · 31/10/2020 13:02

Just watch the YouTube video linked by overnightangel. In his very own words, he’s an unrepentant, violent male supremacist.

It’s sad that so many women are gushing over him. And people don’t believe internalised misogyny is a real thing.

ShirleyPhallus · 31/10/2020 13:06

Wow that video Shock

notacooldad · 31/10/2020 13:07

It’s sad that so many women are gushing over him I totally agree

. And people don’t believe internalised misogyny is a real thing They are deluded!!!

TheNavigator · 31/10/2020 13:08

He died in his sleep in the Bahamas at the age of 90. So the opposite of sad, really, he had a long rich life and a peaceful death in paradise. Would be could all be so fortunate.
