Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

Hii

Taswama · 30/10/2020 17:42

The walk was neither wet nor windy in the end. A bit muddy but we all had wellies so not a problem.
DP has a purple toe which is apparently a symptom of long covid. He's not aware he ever had short covid. He is also now calling it the panic-demic which seems apt.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/10/2020 17:57

@NannyGythaOgg
Can I suggest Violet Hill by Coldplay? Just for the following lyric:
"When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low"

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 30/10/2020 17:59

Cold and rainy here. Just stood in the rain while dcs played with dcs from their class for a couple of hours. I now can't feel my toes and think I need to hop over to the style and beauty boards for "covid outdoor socialising wardrobe help"...

Blobby10 · 30/10/2020 18:04

ibake I love those words! I was listening to jt last week and thought how much it summed up the current situation 😳

TheOrchidKiller · 30/10/2020 18:25

Evening. Sinking a bit today.
But am enjoying the song lyrics.

I've been listening to We Didn't Start The Fire by Billy Joel on repeat, quite loud
"We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning"

I feel a bit like there's always been trouble in the world, we carry on anyway, covid is just another thing to add to the list so why are we doing some of these crazy things?

Also on my mix tape is You Get What You Give by the New Radicals
"You feel your dreams are dying
Hold tight
You've got the music in you
Don't let go
You've got the music in you
One dance left
This world is gonna pull through
Don't give up
You've got a reason to live"

Also best played loud & sung at full volume, especially the line, "Come around, we'll kick your ass in"!

Willow2017 · 30/10/2020 18:45

Just checking in. Need to go carve pumpkins so better not start reading or i might be here a while.😄

BogRollBOGOF · 30/10/2020 18:48

For meeting a self-appointed Covid-police, Disturbed's "Who The Fuck Do You Think You Are". Not that I've managed to decipher most of the lyrics, but it's very rousing for sprinting to Grin

The Sound of Silence has rattled through my head a lot. Especially the line about writing songs that voices never share.

Weather was actually OK today, dry and mild. But the gound has suffered for days of rain. Pokémon Go is a saviour for getting the DCs out on increasingly tedious walks. The DCs' mood is better now we survived the park, plus nextdoor were out Halloweening up their garden and DS2 had a good burst of charging around with their kids. Then Karate. It's not so bad sitting under a streetlamp reading through Harry Potter (and Umbridge's Inquisitorial Squad) wrapped up in a blanket being peacefully alone.

MagdaS · 30/10/2020 18:49

Checking in. I am cooking which is a rarity for me. And I’m pissed, which isn’t.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/10/2020 18:51

Can I suggest a bit of country for the playlist - 'It's All Going to Pot' by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard.

Well, it's all going to pot
Whether we like it or not
The best I can tell
The world's gone to hell
And we're sure gonna miss it a lot

That cackle-bobble-head-in-a-box
Must think I'm dumb as a rock
Readin' daily news
While I'm kickin' off my shoes
It's scarin' me outta my socks

NannyGythaOgg · 30/10/2020 18:56

Some great suggestions. I'm adding them all and will put it as a playlist on Spotify and Amazon eventually if I can.

May be other sets too, if anyone wants to suggest any more groups as well as songs. Maybe a group for angry and a group for uplifting

NeedWineNow · 30/10/2020 19:04

Checking in. I'm so fed up with the depressing news that I'm breaking my Slimming World regime today and having pizza. All the doomsayers are sucking the joy out of life again so I feel the need for comfort food.

I'm fed up.

SirSamuelVimes · 30/10/2020 19:07

Fucks sake. I've been away two days with DCs while DH stayed home. Back now, I'm in loads of pain and need DH to do bedtime. The amount of fucking STROPPING coming from him! I've done it on my own for two nights no bother but ask him to do it once and it's like I've said I'm fucking off put dancing and will be back in a week. Angry

Wishfulthinking1977 · 30/10/2020 19:41

Checking in for my dose of sanity!! Xx

justasking111 · 30/10/2020 20:27

Had facetime with DS tonight, he has gone to stay with girlfriends parents who live nearby but in the country. He said the train was lovely he saw a horse, sheep, cows. You can take the boy out of the country but..... They are all in tier 3 come Sunday so no more slipping away from the city. He did not realise how bad Wales was that everything was closed to us bar essential shopping. Even in tier 3 he will be able to leave the flat and have a meal out I think.

Monday Wales will be told more about our exit from lockdown, god I am so hoping shops etc. will re-open, ditto hotels and restaurants. Just afeared that they will keep the borders shut.

MEN!!

Tonight I was cooking duck breasts with potato gratin and veg. How are you cooking the duck I was asked by OH. When I said how was told that he would do it another way blah blah blah. Well bloody get on with it I said. Much back tracking then... Grin

justasking111 · 30/10/2020 20:31

I think that rather like during the war women are just cracking on working through the shit as best they can, while the men are flailing somewhat and shocked when we bite their stoopid heads off.

NannyGythaOgg · 30/10/2020 20:45

@SirSamuelVimes @justasking111

About 4 years after I split up from my ex, kids were by then 11 and 12. He told me I wasn't doing it right, I should be x y z. I said fine, they're older now. If I'm not doing it right, maybe it's your turn.

The backtracking was hilarious (I knew he would, there was no chance he would have them, he could barely cope with a weekend)

DominaShantotto · 30/10/2020 20:55

Rage Against The Machine... Killing In The Name Of.

End of my contributions there.

Kids are home - good to have them back - they've been amazingly behaved at grandparents apparently. My parents though - they're fucking terrified now. Both really intelligent people, and mum's an ex-journalist so she bloody well KNOWS the media news cycle and when agendas are being pushed - she's still terrified.

DD2 has a post-cold cough - don't quite know if we're meant to be getting them tested if they stub their toe or not anymore.

Oh and DH has an actual, face-to-face, hospital appointment about his CPAP. If they can get that working for him and his fatigue levels improve that might be an improvement to my quality of life as I might get some of the man back I married.

BogRollBOGOF · 30/10/2020 21:43

That's good news about his appointment.
I hope CPAPs are avaliable, they were all the rage in the spring!

RobinHobb · 30/10/2020 21:46

I fucking hate this
I hate all of it
I have only protested once before in my life but I swear if I didn't have kids I'd be out there protesting
Now all I do is beg people to read the thing and sign it (if they are ADs)

gbdeclaration.org

RobinHobb · 30/10/2020 21:48

I'm really cross today

DominaShantotto · 30/10/2020 21:54

Yeah me too @RobinHobb - the online learning is starting to piss off students and lecturers alike from what my tutor said... and I miss bloody interacting with actual people.

Neighbour is having a pissed up sing song in his back garden - he's tone deaf and loud so no chance of me getting to sleep any time soon.

wanderings · 30/10/2020 22:06

My carved pumpkin says "BOO!"

And in smaller writing, "for Boris". I've also given it straw hair, to look like the hair you would expect from straw man Saint Boris.

Perhaps I should also put a picture of a collar and tie underneath it, in the way that Polly satirises Basil Fawlty.

I'm also cheered to read about children dressing as Boris for Hallowe'en.
