Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

Can I join please? Have been lurking away for a looooong time on your threads which have kept me from truly despairing at the state of things. I have now vowed to try and stay away from the news and other parts of MN as they are dragging my already low mood down even further. On the plus side I have signed up to Recovery as they seem a beacon of reason at the moment.

DominaShantotto · 30/10/2020 10:40

Welcome ValiumTowers - always glad for more people to de-lurk.

Still in this bloody seminar... but my airpods headphones and microphone can reach to the kitchen so I can stick the kettle on without not contributing (she's keeping a checklist of who contributes - bah).

MaudesMum · 30/10/2020 10:51

Every time we get comparisons to other countries (the sort which point out that the UK population is behaving far less well than xxx, so its All Our Fault), I'm going to point out Parisiens leaving Paris in droves, the violent protests in Italy a few days ago, and the recent demos in Berlin. I also wonder if a higher rate of compliance in various countries has more to do with larger police forces there - if we had to take forms with us when we left home as per France, we'd know that no-one would ever inspect them, so wouldn't bother...

Sonicthehedgehogg · 30/10/2020 10:58

Not so much as de-lurking as re-joining (with namechange no.20499473).

Under house arrest as a colleague tested positive this morning. Just in time for my annual leave week 🤦🏽‍♀️.

What have I missed? Have we moved on from naughtily shaped veg? Grin

IAintentDead · 30/10/2020 11:10

@Sonicthehedgehogg
welcome back - always room for more rude veg pictures - or any pictures really.

ISaySteadyOn · 30/10/2020 11:19

Welcome @ValiumTowers, I hid the corona virus board myself and found it helped.

And welcome back @Sonicthehedgehogg.

WouldBeGood · 30/10/2020 11:21

@ValiumTowers I love your name 😂

justasking111 · 30/10/2020 11:22

Just read that national lockdown before and after xmas on the cards so we can be together on xmas day. That is just inferring we are selfish bastards happy to see businesses go to the wall for a jolly on the day if we push for it. Emotional blackmail they can tell us it is our fault the economy tanked because we wanted santa.

Think about it if they shut up shop nationally then people will cram into shops just before, during, and just after xmas. DOH!!!

Ditto 😂

They've had a horrible thread about hospitals going on about running out of oxygen Hmm someone posted a link with actual numbers which was much more informative.

It's odd it changed for a while and got a bit more sensible but now back to hysteria and dementing again it seems

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 11:43

I did see something about that in the news but it was about Russia not the UK

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 11:44

I'm getting fed up with this focus on Christmas as well, it is just one day. Won't be happy if they make us lockdown to 'have a joyful Christmas' or some such plan

Worldgonecrazy · 30/10/2020 11:46

It’s raining. Nothing makes sense. My tooth hurts after non dementoring dentist appointment.

So annoyed with Twitter freezing Simon Dolans account yesterday. Nothing sinister at all going on there, completely random over reaction to a months old tweet. Could have happened to anyone.

And for the lurkers - I is not thick! IQ of 148 but still forget where I put my glasses!

justasking111 · 30/10/2020 11:49

The welsh government have put up something on FB this morning about opening up nightingale hospitals in Wales, one in the pipeline already. I do wonder how they will staff them as do other people.

Welsh Government
tSp17onnsolmnreda ·
As coronavirus cases in Wales continue to increase, many people have been asking about field hospitals – why aren’t they open and why don’t we treat coronavirus patients in them?
In the spring, we created 19 field hospitals in just 8 weeks, doubling the number of beds to support the NHS.
This was part of our plan to provide you with the care you need, when you need it. But thanks to your actions to help us keep the virus under control, the majority of these extra beds weren’t needed at that time 🙏
But field hospitals continue to play an important role in our response to the pandemic.
This winter, they will be used to treat patients. They are designed to look after people recovering from coronavirus symptoms, not for critical care or people with more serious complaints or requiring intensive care – they will continue to be treated in hospital settings.
Bridgend’s Ysbyty Seren opened earlier this month and others will open soon. As well as treating people recovering from coronavirus, they will be used as testing hubs and training centres.
Learn more about our field hospitals and the action we're taking to ensure we have enough hospital beds this winter 👇

Interestingly the picture shows a soldier in uniform involved in the construction of the hospital, maybe we may be nursed by the welsh army.

@IAintentDead Those gin recipes sound just the thing for Nanny Ogg. Perhaps you should change your name to reflect her rather than G Weatherwax who preferred tea 😀

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 11:59

Gin sounds lovely. We had a nice orangey spice one in the past can't remember the name

I don't get this, why does locking down everywhere help this one area? Confused if his area is badly hit why not focus on specific reasons there and dealing with that? Confused

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 12:00

Maybe his area could have the Tier 4 or something or help families perhaps?

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 30/10/2020 12:03

Only done a week of the quarantine crap and beginning to crack up.
I had all the classic symptoms and tested negative. DD's school bubble burst in time for half term, so we've just managed a week of isolation with sod all to do. In a garden that isn't very big, a 'walk around the garden' takes about 20 seconds which appeals even less when it's raining.
Totally agree about emotional blackmail.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 12:03

I read one of the reasons why lots in Wales as they are not sending them home prompt enough. So they are well enough but being kept in hospital..

Senior doctors have called for a review of how hospital patients in Wales are discharged during the pandemic.
The Royal College of Physicians said guidelines were causing delays and adding to pressures faced by the NHS.
It said patients who had recovered were staying longer than needed, taking up beds

Funnily enough was just thinking the same.

Re reading witches abroad and loving it anew - always see new connections every time I re read TP (and wonder about the book he would have written about a disc wide virus).

Sorry for stupid question

If you tested negative, why do you have to isolate?

Taswama · 30/10/2020 12:27

PMK - just off for a wet and windy walk.

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 30/10/2020 12:33

Not stupid at all, @AcornAutumn - DD is isolating as a contact of hers tested positive, so difficult to leave her on her own!

How long was she in close contact?

This is so awful, there’s no words.
