Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

No one really wants to be sitting through it so it's like pulling teeth.

Don't mention pulling teeth, it's a little too close to home at the moment!

Afternoon all, I'm going to try to be more active on here. Anyone know if the supermarkets are selling white masks? Off to a roller disco tomorrow and the kids won't be admitted if they don't wear one. They are wearing sugar skull makeup so I had the idea of incorporating their masks to make them look less masky...

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 14:32

Oh right hopefully they will pay him them (cinema)

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 14:33

Co-op had some white masks by the till

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 14:33

Their kids masks are different colours and seem OK mine wear them. sort of stretchy

MercyBooth · 30/10/2020 14:38

NeedWineNow · 30/10/2020 14:45

A new thread! Here's me checking in!

TabbyStar · 30/10/2020 14:47

I just heard the Scotland secondary school mask thing and thought that it was probably completely disproportionate and would give very minor benefits, if any, in relation to Covid. We just seem to lurch from one place to another. I made an illegal trip this morning to comfort a friend whose DF just died suddenly (not Covid). What sort of world do we live in that I could be fined £1,000 for doing that?

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 14:53

Got my result from the covid study negative thankfully

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 14:54

I know the plan in England was two weeks on / off for secondaries in areas of high rates as a last resort. So hopefully won't have the mask creep

It's all like a creep isn't it with this stuff.

NannyGythaOgg · 30/10/2020 14:57

It's a Mad World

All around us no familiar faces
Worn out face masks, can't see faces
Keep on going for the daily crazies
Seeing No one, going nowhere
Their breathing steaming up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow
Not more tomorrow, no tomorrow

(with apologies)

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/10/2020 15:09

Just saw another sanctimonious post on social media "if we do as we are told we will get out of this sooner.....if you've ever seen anyone die of covid (then goes on lengthy description of a covid death)"
I did it, I bit.
I just responded "so, have you ever seen anyone die of anything else? Because what you just described there, is how millions of people die every day. Its literally the same."
I'm just waiting for the "but....but.....but...errr....covid" responses now.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 30/10/2020 15:13

I mean, how, as a society have we become so far removed from death that we fail to realise it is your body shutting down, sometimes quite quickly, sometimes over a prolonged period and unless you are spark out in an induced coma, chances are it will be ugly.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 15:17

It's true, and also these things they mention, the compliations well, it is because of an overactive immune response by the body to the virus.

Things like stroke, blood clotting, all happen with some conditions (such as diabetes) even without the virus

FIL developed an embolism in the lung as he's got an autoimmune condition, it may be linked.

Sepsis is in over half of severe covid cases, as it is in pneumonia, it is common, and yes causes confusion and delirium.

It's not like bizarre new stuff it happens with many things.

Was listening to the Bridge of Spies album by T Pau this week
These are the lyrics to Monkey House.

Monkey House
T'Pau
In the healthy, wealthy state of Mental Hygiene
We will teach you how to think a clean way
There'll be no more dirty looks
And no more dirty books
Now for your own good, we will take the choice away
There is a limit in the state of Mental Hygiene
To the difference of opinion we can allow, oh yeah
Now we must close an open mind
If it's open to a different kind
Well, how can you hurt us if we:
Clean up in the Monkey House tonight
Oh yeah, you're gonna be alright
We clean up in the Monkey House, house tonight
Now we can make or break your mind
With Mental Hygiene
And you will see things in the way we think you should
Oh yeah
In the quiet of the night
The first cut is the deepest in the fight
How can you blame us if we
Clean up in the Monkey House tonight
Oh yeah, you're gonna be alright
We clean up in the Monkey House
We're gonna take you
We're gonna wash you whiter than white
In the Monkey House
Oh yeah!
Woh, ooh, ooh, ooh, woh, ooh, ooh, woh
In the quiet of the night
You can hear your own heart beating
In the quiet of the night
We'll take your breath away
Now you're gonna listen to the things we say
We gotta:
Clean up in the Monkey House tonight
Oh yeah, you're gonna be alright
We clean up in the Monkey House
We're gonna take you
We're gonna wash you whiter than white
In the Monkey House tonight
Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha yeah!
We clean up in the Monkey House

Exactly @Orangeblossom7777

Also caught a bit of bbc news at lunch (need to give that up, its dementor central) where they were talking to people in the streets who kept referring to it as "a killer disease". That gives me the rage irrationally.
Yes it will kill some people, as do most viruses, but it is not a killer. Also its not a fucking disease. Its a virus.

NannyGythaOgg · 30/10/2020 15:31

My family, who are all 'better' educated than me were full on dementor but are now coming round. Not one of them had realised though that long covid was essentially the same as post viral syndrome - also previously known as CFS or even Yuppy flu.

They were also talking about DNAR in the elderly and were shocked to hear that I had a DNAR in place for specific situations, that it is very rarely successful in the elderly and of the few that are resuscitated they often die soon after from chest infections partly due to not being able to cough because of the pain of bruised and often broken ribs.

NastyBlouse · 30/10/2020 15:32

I like Depeche Mode Where’s the Revolution for apt lyrics at the moment.

Anyway. Checking in to catch new thread but going quiet for a few days as am on holiday. Sunnyish here (Cumbria) but wind and wet threatened for tomorrow.

Cake Wine Gin Brew to all.

MercyBooth · 30/10/2020 15:38

We need to have an AD compilation album.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 15:44

The latest on BBC I saw they were calling it a 'fire' and the 'wards were on fire' in one hospital...Hmm

justasking111 · 30/10/2020 15:47

I have had an adventure not been out since last Thursday (Lidl yeah I know how to live) anyway needed flu jab which was done in the car park of the surgery under a little three sided marquee. Then I thought fuck it with essential DIL had told me B&M had said to her if you need it then it is essential. She had bought baubles. So I went to the store, bought tinsel, treats for the grand kids a rug for the new floor to use between kitchen and sitting room, doggy paws and managed for about 20 minutes before the mask wearing got to me, am not good in big stores anyway. The checkout lady waved my goods through cheerily.

Took treats around to DIL to leave in porch she saw me it looks like they will not get the grant because they did not complete all the requirements in time, business plan, staff details etc. and were told sorry we have run out of money. It was first come first served so I guess in Wales the big boys got there first. It really sucks when the little people who do not normally have to put in full business plans within 24 hours miss the boat. Big companies have an army of accountants in these cases, small businesses do not so struggle with the criteria needed at short notice.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 15:47

Now it is being reported Wales feel it has not helped, the short lockdown and they won't be doing it again

www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-wales-54751375

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/10/2020 15:49

Sorry- he means the local ones not the 'fire break'. It all gets a bit much at times
