Hi all

I couldn’t find the new thread so here is one I set up. It’s windy out there! Glad I weeded my flowerbeds a couple of days ago.

I'm just working up to calling my DM, who according to my DB thinks the army should be called in to enforce the rules. I've always suspected I was adopted....

LivinLaVidaLoki · 01/11/2020 13:21

Though apparently they are now moving my brother out of the home into some kind of independant living.
Despite the fact he has had no physio for the last 6 months and what strength and motor skills he had have gone so he can no longer do small tasks himself.
But what worries me most is the loneliness. At least where he is he has company. I don't think he realises what its like "on the outside" and is just excited about getting "his own place".
But realistically you've got a man shunted out to living on his own, unable to care for himself properly with no real prospects of any company. What on earth are they thinking??!!!! Why now, why the hurry???
Could it be that they are emptying his wing of the home to discharge patients from hospital into?

Madly, although off during half term school now says need to isolate one DC until Thurs so that's that for me then. As another pupil was in the year group (120 approx) before half term and tested over the holidays. Makes so much sense.
Only guidance - I wouldn't bother complying - so long as said DC isn't going to brag about it next term.

@HitchikersGuide - you and me both. I added a comment about it being triggering for mental health and that they should police it better. Won't make any difference as they don't give a shit

Blobby10 · 01/11/2020 13:29

Really struggling today - I'm having to self isolate as OH tested postive last monday. Luckily I can still go to work but the total lack of fresh air and exercise is starting to take its toll. After an enthusiastic start yesterday cleaning the house I've spent the morning sitting on my bum ordering lights and rugs and paint - doesn't seem any point saving for a holiday or anything nice in the future. As I'm set to be confined to my house for the foreseeable future I may as well make it as nice as I can. Can anyone give me any tips on painting kitchen cupboards?!!

Are they talking about him having his own place on his own or into shared housing. I would have thought a shared house would have been more appropriate.

Although, if he is on his own, at least he will be able to have visitors caring visits.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 01/11/2020 13:35

@NannyGythaOgg
Its his own adapted flat on a complex of similar properties I think. With someone on call (though not on site)

MissEWeatherwax · 01/11/2020 13:44

Where is risk in seeing someone through a window! Went to Tesco this morning, toilet rolls getting low, why?
I’m slowly losing the will to live. Heard Mr Gove on radio saying might not end in a month. I almost cried.
Luckily my DD are just getting money for Christmas. Our local library was just due to re open, now won’t be.
I have always classed myself as an introvert and anti social, but according to MN I must be a social butterfly if I’m not happy locked away.
Do you think everyone will be back to washing their shopping.

MissEWeatherwax · 01/11/2020 13:47

@Blobby10 on Instagram the is shop called decorating online and they have saved to their highlights how to paint your kitchen cupboards.

SirSamuelVimes · 01/11/2020 13:50

I once worked in a school in which the secret code for an armed intruder in the building - ie the barricade yourselves in the classrooms and hide as many kids under desks / in cupboards as you can - was "Mr Gove is in the building".

Just seemed appropriate to share that today.

Blobby10 · 01/11/2020 13:55

@MissEWeatherwax Thank you!!! will while away a couple of hours checking it out xx

MissEWeatherwax · 01/11/2020 14:03

www.decoratingcentreonline.co.uk hopefully that link works

Sonicthehedgehogg · 01/11/2020 14:05

@Blobby10 I see a lot of people on Instagram using Frenchic with good effect.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 01/11/2020 14:17

Good, sensible balanced news from the Zoe app, thanks for sharing.

Reedwarbler · 01/11/2020 14:21

My H has just gone to see his dad who is mouldering away in a hospital bed waiting to be moved to a care home (which he would not need if the NHS hadn't been inconsiderate enough to let him fall and break a hip - for which they have accepted full responsibility). It is quite likely that this might be one of the last times he will ever see his father. He will go to a care home and we will have no possibility of seeing him, or judging whether his care is adequate and the nurses kind, and whether he is being properly looked after, and no chance of cheering him up with a familiar face ever again. What has the world come to?

shinynewapple2020 · 01/11/2020 14:46

@Orangeblossom7777

They have already started on telling people about exercise and travelling to walk etc- oh no it is a return to lockdown dementing

and the swimming pool is to close which is about the only thing which has kept me going the past months

My DS's GF works at a swimming pool at a private gym, she's only been there for 2 months having been furloughed from her previous job in March. She really struggled mentally being at home before I feel so sorry for her .

Orangeblossom7777 · 01/11/2020 14:51

Yes it is MH the swimming helps me with too.

Well, the school won't let them back in till Thurs, but they have to log on for online school instead at 8.30.

110APiccadilly · 01/11/2020 14:51

Intriguing that the Zoe app data suggests the R number is in fact higher in Wales than England (though not by much) given that Wales have been quite a bit stricter all through (2m distance, not 1m+, not meeting up indoors at all except in your extended household) and have had a lot of local lockdowns.

BogRollBOGOF · 01/11/2020 14:53

My head is in the sand. Lots of everybody's talkin' at me rattling around in there.

The kids are still going to school (until the virus gets their classes... it's working its way around) I can cope with that. That gets me a long way. A few things have a little optomism left while governing bodies work out the small print and we'll see what happens there. Trying not to think too much, and I'm sorry because I know it means bigger, serious shit for others, but I'm out of energy to be angry at the moment, currently worn down just by one week of half term and grotty weather, and I can't think big.

I can't see their faces,
Only the shadows of their eyes.
I'm going where the sun keeps shining
Sailing on summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone.

TheOrchidKiller · 01/11/2020 14:55

@LivinLaVidaLoki
Could it be that they are emptying his wing of the home to discharge patients from hospital into?
Yes, quite probably. I do hope his move goes well, I guess it's a worrying time.

@Reedwarbler
I'm sorry about your FIL, & everyone else in care homes who can't have visitors.

It's things like that which are making me dread work tomorrow, that & another lockdown which will strip away support & coping mechanisms for millions of people.

Someone has scheduled a crisis meeting into my diary for first thing tomorrow morning. Why? Nothing has changed for us at work at all.

I don't want to go to work. I should be grateful to have a job. I am not working in an ITU. It's just hard, & increasingly soul-destroying. Definitely not a keyworker hero.

shinynewapple2020 · 01/11/2020 14:55

That's awful @Reedwarbler .

I know when my DF was in hospital and had to move to a care home it was only family visits which kept him going .

Bollss · 01/11/2020 14:58

Can I add a song to the ads playlist? In light of my lockdown weight gain - fat bottomed girls by Queen Grin

Iheartmysmart · 01/11/2020 15:09

I had to go and pick DS up from work earlier. Listening to my playlist and Jekyll & Hyde came on, these lyrics sum up how I feel today:

There's just so much goddamned weight on my shoulders
All I'm trying to do is live my motherfucking life
Supposed to be happy, but I'm only getting colder
Wear a smile on my face, but there's a demon inside

Singing motherfucking very loudly in the car was quite cathartic.

I see anyone who is trying to question the lockdown is getting a pasting on other threads :(

DrDiva · 01/11/2020 15:12

It’s all very either/or thinking isn’t it? Lockdown or nothing. No thoughts about any other ways of thinking.

My DS cried last night. He’s not a crier Sad

AcornAutumn · 01/11/2020 15:12

Can I add Nik Kershaw to our list? It’s quite repetitive so here’s my basic

🎤Wouldn’t it be good to be in Sweden
Even if it’s cold and dark out there
Wouldn’t it be good
If we could live
A normal way

Wouldn’t it be good to be in Sweden
They got herd immunity out there
And that is the reason
They can live without a care

I am not joking
They know everything about it
They’ve got real doctors
They understand infection too

England is stifling
Eating me up from the inside
Tyranny’s creeping
Can’t have fun no more

Don’t want be here no more...

I’m sick of fighting
Even though I know I should🎤

HitchikersGuide · 01/11/2020 15:19

We're back to the 'what part of stay at home don't you understand?' and the patronising passive-aggressive thing of saying something that's somewhere between wrong and a bit silly and going 'there, sorted that out for you'.
Who are these people? Seriously, in RL, they just can't be like that can they?
