Does anyone remember Handbag.com

It was probably early to mid 2000s? It was an online women's magazine site but most people used the forums? It was such a busy place, much like mumsnet with a variety of discussions. I used to love the personalised avatars (which helped recognise posters straight away) and enjoyed whiling away the hours at work on there even making some friends. This was all before social media so was my go to. Not sure why it died a death, it went from being a thriving women's chat site to being completely dead and now long gone. I wonder if there are any old handbaggers on here? ;)

Loved ivillage!!

onedayinthefuture · 24/10/2020 00:25

Oh wow some old bagger names I definitely remember being mentioned here, what a blast from the past. I would never have remembered otherwise. I do remember TheBlonde, she was really cool - she was light years ahead of herself and should have had instagram back then and been a fashion blogger. I remember Toots someone? Also there were two other posters that knew each other irl I'm sure? One was called Pineapple something or something pineapple.

I went to a handbag meet and while everyone was lovely a few of us including myself got money stolen. It transpired that it was one of the handbaggers was a compulsive thief. Had a drawer full of other people's wallets etc. She stole from me a couple of times and from others. Never admitted it of course but a couple of the others did their detective work and we're 100% sure!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 24/10/2020 04:21

I lurked on the fashion board and remember TheBlonde and Caramelx!

Was it Annanas? I remember her and LoonyPumpkin on the Beauty threads. Also Caramelx and Mercurial, I think.
StarlightLady · 24/10/2020 05:38

It was so popular back in the day that some other sites would not let you use the word “handbag”.

ClaudiaWinklepants · 24/10/2020 05:47

Yes, what blast from the past. I was a bagger and then, for a brief spell, on the Damsel site. Can't for the life of me remember my name though I do remember Toots and Space Cowboy.

gurteee · 24/10/2020 05:49

Yes I remember Smile I wasn't a big user though

MrsMaryBOOface · 24/10/2020 07:34

Wow this thread has brought back some memories! I was a bagger, a damsel and an ivillager but wasn't very into posting, more reading like I do here.
And I recently discovered that The Mock Turtle is still going Shock

😮that’s shocking!!

Does anyone remember the girl on damsels who received donations from lots of members for a disabled wheelchair contraption for her dog!! Lots of people donated only to find out it was all lies.

MerchantOfVenom · 24/10/2020 07:49

I was Handbag for years, and remember all the spin-offs - Damsels, the Lounge, Mock Turtle and the TTC/baby one that Loopy(?) set up.

I remember Blossie on Handbag - she was obsessed with sex, had a group (incl. Lady Muck) who followed her round and worshipped her, and seemed to enjoy inviting naive young things to swingers clubs. Odd.

Scottishmummy and her creepy wee brackets.

There were some very persistent trolls on there too, but no names spring to mind.

Good times in the early noughties.

Paddingtonthebear · 24/10/2020 08:17

Does anyone remember the P45 site/forum back in late 90’s

onedayinthefuture · 24/10/2020 08:21

@ThePawtriarchy YES thank you Ananas and Loony Pumpkin, I always wondered if they were both celebs irl. They both seemed to live very nice lifestyles but there was no airs and graces. And yes to CaramelX I remember her well too, I think I used to chat with her quite a bit. I remember Leftofcentre too, that's another one I could imagine being on here now.

I remember ananas and TheBlonde, I thought they were so cool, I remember Caramelx and also toosh(I think) who had a baby. I remember there was a phase where the whole fashion board was obsessed with Topshop Slam shoes.

Fuzzywuzzyhadnohair · 24/10/2020 09:53

Ah spidey! I remember you! I was gameboygirl on there, feels like a million years ago now!

onemouseplace · 24/10/2020 10:06

I met Ananas and Loony Pumpkin a couple of times on meets - they were both quite normal, but clearly came from very wealthy backgrounds. They were also friends with another bagger who was lovely - elliecat I think she was called.

Does anyone else remember the Hong Kong Bag Lady craze? I even went on the meet for that, and made my friend come with me as it was the first time I'd ever met up with people off the internet!

TellingBone · 24/10/2020 10:24

Add me to the throng! I wasn't a prolific poster [nothing changes!] so I wouldn't be remembered, but I was a member of handbag from 2002, also HD Forums, TCL, Damsels. I do remember Spidey, meganchips, Lady Muck with her endless boyfriends known as Le Comte de Blissoir etc, blossie and TJM with her sidekicks. Also Savvy, petlum, Stewart, helly helly, Poppy [oops], littlebear, sammilou, PR girl Cesca, Duncan, Azura, Tourguide Barbie, Dazzling...I could go on.

Actually, this thread might have cleared something up I wondered about for a long time. There was a prolific poster in the early days who went very quiet after a meet and I'm wondering now if the theft story is the reason. I won't say the name but if it's who I'm thinking then you'd know her by three initials short for her bagger name?

Was it uma-pineapple someone remembered? Became a mod later I think.

What about Angelfire? Prolific troll for years who ended up confessing all about her million user names, including Lily Savage who entertained us all with bumsex against a fence. Axl-Kurt-Gods I think it was pretended to have a relative on a bus during the London terror attacks. Nasty.

I was quite pally with Flakey, prolific troll hunter.

I'm sure I'll think of more later...

Rhine · 24/10/2020 10:38

Does anyone remember dotmusic.com and their forums?

Spidey66 · 24/10/2020 10:53

@TellingBone what was your user name? I remember Flaky well, didn't like her at first but ended up getting on well with her.

SpaceCowboy was full if his own shit, thought of himself as the forum police. If you went into general chat and ask if anyone had watched Corrie the night before, he'd post "fucking arsehole, this should be in TV". He was forever getting banned.

Him and mercurial caused a storm by announcing they were getting married, which surprised everyone as she lived in the US, and they hadn't interacted at all on the boards. But to quote Donald Trump, it was fake news.

There was a real oddball bloke that posted there. I cant remember his name. He used to post other forums too. He was homeless and sold The Big Issue. His political views were far left. But at times were worrying. He became well known for saying that he thought it was ok to steal food or squat if you had no money, as food and shelter were basic human needs for survival. Which I get, and have sympathy for. But he also thought sex was a basic human need for, which could also be taken if needed (basically advocating rape). He then turned up at a London meet and was staring at us from across the room. We'd recognised him because he'd published his photo on HB and other forums. After that meets were arranged by PM.

Spidey66 · 24/10/2020 10:56

TellingBone poppy made lots and lots of enemies. She betrayed so many people's trust.

Spidey66 · 24/10/2020 11:00

LoonyPumpkin came across as all nicely nicely but wasn't rw ally. She started seeing SimonD who I think thought she was well out of his league and basically bled him dry with requests (demands) for designer clothing, handbags, sho we etc. He was so bowled over by her he would buy them before realising she was a user.

TellingBone · 24/10/2020 11:02

I remember that bloke Spidey - Steelgate?. There was also Gecko [?] who later died in an accident so I won't go on.

My bagger name was something like 'northern lass' [well it was 2002!]. I wasn't a 'known' bagger. But I will claim to have been instrumental, if not publicly, in the outing of shellieshoe the 'coronor' - nearly as big a troll as Angelfire.

And yes I knew about the Poppy stuff.

Spidey66 · 24/10/2020 11:10

Steelgate! That was it!

Spidey66 · 24/10/2020 11:13

Oh yeah shelleshoe who worked as a coroner but couldn't spell it. Her husband was a 'surgeon" despite knowing nothing about the female anatomy, and when caught out was a team of 7 researchers.
