Does anyone remember Handbag.com

It was probably early to mid 2000s? It was an online women's magazine site but most people used the forums? It was such a busy place, much like mumsnet with a variety of discussions. I used to love the personalised avatars (which helped recognise posters straight away) and enjoyed whiling away the hours at work on there even making some friends. This was all before social media so was my go to. Not sure why it died a death, it went from being a thriving women's chat site to being completely dead and now long gone. I wonder if there are any old handbaggers on here? ;)

I was on there but also ivillage?? Does anyone remember that?
I remember ivallige but was never on it
Trolls were on another level on Babyworld, because it was not anonymous so it was so shocking when someone was outed as a troll.! I remember a woman who had a whole baby diary that she updated every day. She said she was a high flyer with a new baby. All her photos were very old fashioned so we started to smell a rat and she was exposed! These days she wouldn't have to resort to using her own baby photos, she would just steal some baby photos off the internet.

Bloody hell, all about you is still around.

Still clunky and horrible as it was then.

I was a bagger too.. loved that site!!

IDontMindMarmite · 21/10/2020 22:39

Haha I was a bagger. It was really sad how it just died a death because of the changes that made it near un useable

onedayinthefuture · 21/10/2020 22:44

@Sarahlou63

Also a bagger - to the extent that I ended up having sex with two of them (not at the same time!)
Oh wow, it was a friendly site to be fair.

I used to spend so many afternoons in my boring office job on there, at the time mainly on the fashion thread. There'd be a weekly 'what are you wearing this weekend post', in the days of living for the weekend and partying..... which has now gone too :/

It wasn't all fluffy and sparkles and did have some interesting debate but definitely no downright nastiness like you see on here (back then you wouldn't get away with what gets said on here).

There were some really cool people on there too, I wonder if I was ever really chatting to celebrities.

Yeah, if you tried a draw your own tiddy thread on here there would be ructions and vulva yelling.

Ah well, it was nice while it lasted.

purplepandas · 21/10/2020 22:51

Oh yes, remember handbag. I was a damsel, spent many years on there, good times and bad. Any other damsels here?

TippledPink · 21/10/2020 22:58

I was a Damsel- still am I guess as it is still running in its own little way.

TheFlis12345 · 21/10/2020 23:04

I was a bagger, and even a volunteer mod on a couple of the forums. I miss it to this day, I made such a lovely, supportive group of friends there, many of who I met in real life and a few I still keep in touch with.

BitOfFun · 21/10/2020 23:06

I think I helped to kill UK Parents' Lounge forums by being tediously political. Still, once it was dead, mumsnet sprang up, so perhaps I can claim credit for that?

LolaGrace · 21/10/2020 23:09

I was on damsels - do miss it and the iconic threads on there

purplepandas · 22/10/2020 22:24

@TippledPink, is damsels still running? I thought it disappeared. Hello @LolaGrace too. Nice to see people here too. I was around for many years there, made some good friends.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 22/10/2020 22:33

I was on it briefly, just for the fashion. There were some odd people on there - didn't seem to have jobs but were constantly buying new clothes. I only remember one name, and can't even remember my own.

Gardenista · 23/10/2020 01:22

I loved handbag.com. I used to post on their loads from 2001 when I first started work until about 2005 - which is when I think it died. I went to a few meet ups I’m sure..

drspouse · 23/10/2020 11:09

@purplepandas some of the old Damsels members are still friendly. Damsella herself has hung up her pink hat I believe.

glazeover · 23/10/2020 11:13

I worked at the ad agency and recall spending a sunny afternoon brainstorming different ideas for what the website could be called. I always thought handbag.com was a slightly left field choice!

I was an Ivillager, many moons ago.
purplepandas · 23/10/2020 12:07

Thanks @drspouse, I remember you from there!

Yes, this ^.

I was an ivillager too.

DominaShantotto · 23/10/2020 12:40

I was on it, and then The Cuban Lounge when things splintered off

StCharlotte · 23/10/2020 13:16

There was also Charlotte Street (my user name is a nod to it) which was great. Until it got taken over by femail.com and the rest really is hysteria...

Anyone remember that?

yellowmaoampinball · 23/10/2020 13:21

Yes I was a handbagger and used babygreenhouse a lot too. I still miss the latter, it was just the right size. Big enough to have plenty of threads but small enough you felt like you knew everyone

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/10/2020 13:23

Ha ha yes! I was one of the regulars. It was very similar to Mumsnet 🤭

justanotherneighinparadise · 23/10/2020 13:24

Aaah fond memories 😍

onemouseplace · 23/10/2020 13:25

@Handsnotwands

It was brilliant. I spent most of the day in my first boring job being a bagger
This was me as well. I discovered Handbag in my first temping job out of uni in 2000.
