@Spudlet we had this problem with gaps between branches. You can get matt, tree coloured tinsel type stuff that we wrap around the trunk and it really bulks it out.

Squirrel26 · 29/10/2020 09:53

I am worried for the MIL’s muddy suede shoes several pages back. I don’t think they’re going to recover.

Fuschia plants seem to be indestructible in my garden. On the other hand, I keep buying clematis, and they keep dying.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/10/2020 10:42

We no longer have a clematis after I inadvertently told the church warden that the slugs had eaten my clitoris.

DH found it terribly amusing, I was terrified to mention the plant ever again and ended up pulling it up in retaliation.

TenCornMaidens · 29/10/2020 11:30

Just got some pumpkins. We are having our support bubble to stay this weekend and will have a pumpkin carving contest. May even bob for apples.

Spudlet · 29/10/2020 11:31

@Champagneforeveryone Shock🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have cleaned upstairs today. It is a complete PITA to do because we have a sodding useless Henry Hoover which weighs a tonne to carry up the narrow, twisty, low-ceilinged stairs, gets stuck and falls over constantly, and doesn’t actually suck anything much up, but it is done now. And DS has had a bath, mostly just to keep him out from under my feet.

I am now sitting down having a break while DS watxhes CBeebies, and I plot how I’m going to murder Henry the Hoover so I can have a new one. Maybe if I accidentally hoovered a small explosive up... it would be so very satisfying to blow the useless smug smiley fucker to little bits!

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 29/10/2020 11:33

I'm having a car charger put in, the NOISE of drilling through brickwork is atrocious.

CleverCatty · 29/10/2020 11:41

WFH. Sick of working at the moment but did a load of work before 9am so don't mind being on MN.

Discovered yesterday I'd bought 2 books (Peter Ackroyd's London) by mistake and 2 bottles of nail polish Beige Touch which is ok but thought I'd selected different colours!

Purpleice · 29/10/2020 11:57

Painting the landing with the help of white emulsion and some podcasts. My new shampoo bar from Etsy has arrived and smells very good. Will be using it later.

TrickyD · 29/10/2020 13:04

The sweep dealt with the sittingroom chimney. I took everything off the mantel piece which I polished then put the dusted items back. Dusting will last until Christmas.

FairFridaythe13th · 29/10/2020 13:32

I have a builder outside screaming ‘oh bollocks’ quite a lot... he’s not in distress or anything. Definitely very unimaginative in his swears though.

MissConductUS · 29/10/2020 15:03

@Spudlet I'm not sure how to kill Mr. Hoover, but may I recommend the Miele canister vacuum? I have two (ancient one downstairs, newer one upstairs) and they're fabulous. Just get the cheapest one with the attachments you want off amazon. I don't think the more expensive ones really give you better cleaning.

DD's uni has announced that they will allow up to 60% of the student body onto campus for the spring semester. However, classes will continue to be remote only and I think it's safe to assume that clubs and sports will be severely curtailed. I think she's safer with us and there's not much point in paying room and board for her to sit in a dorm and so Zoom classes. She hasn't expressed an opinion yet.

I had a small bit of karmic justice done for me last night. There's a large roundabout (traffic circle to us Yanks) I have to navigate on my way home. I entered the circle and another car comes flying in from the next entrance, failed to yield, and causing me to panic brake and hit my horn.

The other driver had failed to notice the two police cars parked on the circle, one of whom saw what happened and pulled him over to give him a citation. Grin

I have been rained on again, now home getting warm.

Taswama · 29/10/2020 15:22

I have just learnt the American for roundabout.

BasiliskStare · 29/10/2020 15:25

I bought two window boxes, they have arrived - hurrah - but - too rainy to even think of going to the garden centre. The upside is I have a great deal of bubble wrap. DS is doing some job applications & I tore a bit off and offered it to him - he said "he was OK for the moment thanks" both said utterly without irony.
I am dusting the shelves where photos go instead whist watching Poirot instead of planting. I am Blush at the dust.

Deathraystare · 29/10/2020 15:35

Blasted bus on diversion. Then as I walked into work trod on loose paving that threw loads of puddle water all up my leg. Salary not paid in today (I have to wait two weeks from when I worked) so may well have to walk into work tomorrow as no more money on my other oyster card (working early am so cannot use my senior one as I get bus at 6am).

Very hungry but don't want to eat sandwich until later on or I shall be really hungry all afternoon.

Reading about other people's messy houses makes me feel a little better about my one untidy room!

ladybee28 · 29/10/2020 15:42

@Taswama

I have just learnt the American for roundabout.
What is it, @Taswama?

I'm using my new dutch oven for the first time this afternoon – making a beef stew.

MissConductUS · 29/10/2020 15:52

@ladybee28 - see the third paragraph of my longish post up the thread a bit.

Can't find a pumpkin anywhere.

Deathraystare · 29/10/2020 15:55

soddingkitten

I had to laugh about the description of your husband! Yes, I know if he was mine he would annoy me too!

Your tea sounds too exciting though !

paap1975 · 29/10/2020 15:59

We're out of our favourite coffee

FawnDrench · 29/10/2020 16:03

Very dull, damp and dismal here today.

Even the dog seems fed up.

Ah well - lovely toad in the hole for tea, so that'll cheer me up no end.

sueelleker · 29/10/2020 16:04

I descaled my Dolce Gusto coffee machine this morning- the coffee was starting to come out luke-warm.

anothermansmother · 29/10/2020 16:09

I've finished painting my lounge and have washed my curtains and I'm waiting for them to finish drying so I can put them back up. My lounge now feels nice and calm.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/10/2020 16:19

Tomorrow is my day off, guess what I'll be doing ... go in to work.
As there's not much else to do, I might as well.

ladybee28 · 29/10/2020 16:46

Ahahahah - facepalm.

Thank you for your patient and nonjudgemental explanation!
