Seems to have shut up shop as from this morning.

@GetOffYourHighHorse

think I get it now. the thing is some people (like me) have not seen what you are talking about. I can't comment on something I have not seem.
but I have seen it on mc, it has happened there to me.
I am sorry that happened to you. Its not a nice thing to go through.

You're so right, the place was a cesspit, just look at some of the threads on there:

Breakfast Club
Word Association Game
Best or Worst cover version
Facemasks - yes or no
Tarot card reading
M&S and Ocado
Style and Beauty
What to do with 300 green tomatoes
Aircrash investigation
TV and film
Books and reading
Health and fitness
Gardening
++++++

Seriously, do you honestly think they are heaving with racist posts? While it's still up why don't you go and check them out? Or would you would rather believe what people are saying on this thread?

I admit I hate threads about Harry and Meghan both on here and there. I posted on it early on that I hated the thread and haven't read it since then so have no idea of photographs, comments etc. But to condemn every poster as racist is clearly ridiculous. Had I seen the photograph I would have reported the poster and told them what I thought of their post.

All I ask you to do is to read some of the huge percentage of the posts and boards which just consisted of women talking about everyday things.

Saucery · 13/10/2020 15:59

I hope the posters who were there just to chat and get support are able to regroup somewhere else.

Crankley · 13/10/2020 16:06

Me too Saucery.

HeIenaDove · 13/10/2020 16:09

This is a thread i started on the Feminism board about the way some (note not all) on Reddit were discussing me. MN deleted it.

Saucery · 13/10/2020 16:12

I’m surprised they have let this thread run on so long, tbh, Helena. Perhaps they want it all aired on one thread.

Agogastwoagogthingsgogging · 13/10/2020 16:14

Yes, but goodness, if a poster were posting racist comments, such as that picture which was posted there, and not condemned by all, would other posters who may not have seen that exact post still want to share banter and possibly receive messages of support from that poster? I know that I would not. Indeed I should feel very unhappy about my conversations with someone like that, and I should be glad that the site had gone, so that sort of thing couldn’t flourish, and I would seek support elsewhere. Although of course nobody knows who anybody is on the internet, unless they’re into weird stalking stuff, of course.

Roussette · 13/10/2020 16:15

I've said all along that there were some nice and fun threads just like you listed.
And I'm sure posters enjoyed them.

The trouble is... the two threads with the most traffic were JustineRobertsMN at over 600 pages and Meghan & Harry at I think nearly 900 pages Shock

And on a small site, which it was, those two predominant unpleasant threads show up a lot.

The Admin of the site should've zapped the MN thread long long ago. And the H&M thread should've been moderated.
I think that place would've survived because those with an anti HM agenda and/or an anti MN agenda would've soon got bored and gone off elsewhere.

Personally, I'm not condemning every member who was there. Or every thread, as being racist.
But there is no getting away from the fact that members were a part of a forum that had an unpleasant unmoderated side to it.

HeIenaDove · 13/10/2020 16:16

@GetOffYourHighHorse Im on Reddit now. After three years of shit from some of them i joined when i was temporarily banned from here last month so ppl on here who read it would see i had been banned and why, and to defend myself I have pointed out the hypocrisy on there.

There is a thread on there called Helena Saint Dove about what a do gooder i am.

Yet ppl on there accusing me of ignoring racism. Racism i didnt actually see due to the threads being too long.

Looks as if it is full of racist and dangerous women. Absolutely terrifying.
Roussette · 13/10/2020 16:20

Agogastwoagogthingsgogging

I hope you never forget your username and have to write it out from memory lol

Totally agree. I would not have wanted to part of it because it would be hard to ignore 'most recent posts' and see the dominant threads that were trending and what was being said by whom. I would've made me uncomfortable to be honest

Roussette · 13/10/2020 16:25

Not acknowledging what was there really brushes it under the carpet though doesn't it?

As I said in my post two back, the two busiest threads were the two worst.

Not one member of mc has come on and said... actually it was pretty bad on those two threads, maybe I should've called it out, perhaps I just turned away from it, or whatever.

Not ONE.

Not everyone can have not seen it surely? When I come on MN of a morning I look at 'trending now'
mc had 'recent posts' or something.
Hard to miss surely

Crankley · 13/10/2020 16:28

BakedCam *I know what you mean - swapping green tomato chutney recipes is all well and good but what about the poor red tomatoes? Definitely racist.

Saucery · 13/10/2020 16:29

Those threads were so consistently at the top of What’s New that I decided to leave. I wasn’t interested in picking apart MN on another forum and even less interested in anything Royal, on there or on here. I actually thought at one point I was ‘doing the site wrong’ because that was all that was at the top whenever I logged on.
The other, chattier or more informative, threads were very sparse and slow moving. MN has its faults, but at least you can always find something to talk about.

HeIenaDove · 13/10/2020 16:29

@Saucery i would actually like this thread to stay though of course its not up to me.

There is a reason i dont click on threads about Royals and thats because i had how perfect Princess Di was looks wise shoved in my face when i was growing up. I look nothing like that Im dark haired dark eyed and olive skinned The media were obsessed with her. DM was too. Heard about the Royals constantly growing up. Not through choice.

HeIenaDove · 13/10/2020 16:31

@Roussette I dont. I go straight to my watch list

GetOffYourHighHorse · 13/10/2020 16:31

'After three years of shit from some of them i joined when i was temporarily banned from here last month so ppl on here who read it would see i had been banned and why, and to defend myself I have pointed out the hypocrisy on there.'

Thats up to you Helena Smile, I've seen your robust posts on here and I know you won't put up with any of their nasty shit. Like mc there are harmless posters on reddit too. I think you are the sort who will call out their crap.

Saucery · 13/10/2020 16:32

I just find them really, really boring Grin But I’m not into Slebs in general, so fair play to anyone who wants to talk about them.

Saucery · 13/10/2020 16:32

I’m sorry you had that growing up, though. Must have been very difficult.

Roussette · 13/10/2020 16:33

Saucery
Thank you.
That is exactly what I mean.

Others just seem to be in denial about what was wrong.

Roussette · 13/10/2020 16:35

Crankley
I answer your post with a long post of my own. And you just take the piss about racist tomatoes.
Hmm

artisticpiles · 13/10/2020 16:45

@Janegrey333

I see there is a different notice available to view at the Other Place. The excerpt below is interesting:

a couple of members were particularly unpleasant to me and I don't have the time for it.

Oh well, at least two posters know they were partly responsible.

That could be the two manure-stirring goady types who made their presence felt a couple of days before it closed then. The useful 'hide poster' facility was widely used by everybody else, so maybe they decided to stir up trouble.
Chicchicchicchiclana · 13/10/2020 16:49

I think HQ know that if they delete this thread then a new one would pop up somewhere. The Trolls group on Reddit started because it wasn't possible to discuss David and Caroline and they got a lot of flack for that. So maybe they think it's best for everyone to get it out of their system.

Agogastwoagogthingsgogging · 13/10/2020 16:50

It is inevitable that I will forget both it and the password one day Grin

I agree that I too could not have overlooked it. However I am sure that some genuine posters did, which was my point really, as now that those posters can see what was actually happening, they should not mourn its demise, but look for nicer people, whom they will hopefully find elsewhere and soon.
