Seems to have shut up shop as from this morning.

@Roussette

I think the Admin left it to moderate itself, and hope for the best. But you can't have a forum with no moderation whatsoever. Or an unresponsive Admin. I I agree with you, there is a reason it didn't survive.
The admin was in a different time zone, so there was never going to be any instant zapping. It was a surprise that there was only 2 threads, to my knowledge, locked and they were trolling posts, ironically.
Roussette · 11/10/2020 21:18

Didn't the Admin say in her message that she tried to get some mods from her other forum to do it, but they weren't interested. I know how much time it takes up and people are never happy, a moderators job is not an easy one.

Janegrey333 · 11/10/2020 21:18

@pigeonsfeather

Sorry, you won’t stop posting on MC? Or here?

Because I wouldn’t post somewhere that posted photographs of minstrels and people found it funny.

That was shocking on two counts: firstly, that the Ikea bookcase character felt he could go for it and other posters would not object because he imagined some were racist like him and secondly, that those who read it did not call him out on it in the strongest possible terms.

there wasn't the level of dread when posting a thread that you get over here

I agree with the point about low-level dread. MN seems to have recently attracted a very hard-edged group of prolific posters who I find very aggressive and hectoring. They dominate every thread they post on and make the entire experience stressful. And unfortunately it's almost impossible to avoid them. I find Reddit the same so perhaps that's where they've crossed over from.
I'm hoping the mods get to grips with them soon as they are having a massive negative impact on the MN experience.

Noseofbrie · 11/10/2020 21:22

It’s really hard to be a mod and I think that a lot fall in to the trap of trying to be friends with regular contributors which will obviously affect moderating judgement. I have seen mods being effectively bullied and cajoled in equal measure. If they are quite trusting it will be the downfall of their site.

The Admin disabled her PMs. So the only way they could get in touch with her was by Email.

I don't know how responsive she was to reports though.

Noseofbrie · 11/10/2020 21:29

How has Grenfell been shoehorned in to this?

Quietlyloud · 11/10/2020 21:32

Quaagars I wouldn’t say it’s condoning to not want to get involved. Not everyone is up for the amount of abuse they would get as retaliation.

I think being a moderator anywhere is a thankless job.
Quaagars · 11/10/2020 21:39

True, it can be pretty shit/mentally draining to put it mildly.

@aranciarosso - yes, you have the wrong name. But I think you are well aware of that, and of the person who doxxed several people via her personal reddit profile(s) before decamping to MC. I suppose it's only a matter of time before she drags herself back here, despite being a PBP.

AufderAutobahn · 11/10/2020 22:29

@rousette I'm really sorry for the crap those mumstwats put you through. How anyone could see see that plus the targeted personal abuse of other MNetters, and think "yeah this is my kind of site, so friendly and nice" is beyond me. And to constantly boast about posting on MN with a totally hilarious invented name specifically to wind posters up and try to get themselves banned ... how utterly pitiful is that?!

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 22:29

Crikey, that's some fast finger deleting, post posted at 22.27 and deleted at 22.27 Grin
Definitely looks like there's an auto post ban set up lol, no mod is that fast Grin

Plussizejumpsuit · 11/10/2020 22:33

I've never heard of it before. Must live under a rock!

BrilliantStarz · 11/10/2020 22:37

I made the mistake of spelling out the name of the site which must not be mentioned, despite no longer existing.

SoupDragon · 11/10/2020 22:42

There is. It automatically hides certain key words for spam and also racism (at one point we could no longer snigger)

Roussette · 11/10/2020 22:48

AufderAutobahn
I do appreciate that, thank you.
Yes it was pretty awful, and even when I didn't post, it still carried on, it made me nervous posting anywhere, and caused me some worry. It wasn't just me, although I was the main target, but a couple of us did support each other when it was at its worst. And for that I am very grateful. There were also some very kind posters on here who messaged me out the blue offering support.

BIWI · 11/10/2020 22:57

@WolffromTheWest

It was alright actually. Generally kinder and more willing to hear The Other Side out then here at any rate.
It absolutely wasn't. It was a cesspit of racism. Millie was a particularly horrible example of that, along with Archewell.

I don't know who they are/were, but I hope to goodness they aren't 'gracing' Mumsnet with their presence

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 23:00

The other side of what?
Not sure I understand there

Dablikeacrap · 11/10/2020 23:01

I wonder if the majority of the complaints were about that rotten ear wax advert? Put me off my food on more than 1 occasion

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 23:01

Do you mean the Other Side of the racism "discussions?"
As if so, you're all welcome to each other.
