Seems to have shut up shop as from this morning.

OP posts:
Saucery · 11/10/2020 19:27

All that was there. I’m glad you have screenshots, SimonJT, now it seems to have gone for good.
It was taken over by disgruntled racists and troublemakers and I don’t blame the Admin for thinking Fuck It.
It was made quite clear at the beginning that the aim of the site wasn’t to piss and moan about MN or troll MN, but a small group of posters weren’t happy with that angle.
Admin said they wanted a space for people who felt MN wasn’t the place for them to talk. So that’s a shame for those posters.

Well yes, but every one of those posters who stayed, knew it was there and stayed - tacitly approved of racism. And ableism. And discrimination. And lots of other isms.

How could anyone stay knowing that?

Roussette · 11/10/2020 19:30

I've seen some of the H and M threads on here, and they were bad enough

The H&M threads on here were like the Meghan Markle Appreciation society compared to what was posted over there.
But that's what you get if you 'self moderate' which is what they said they were doing. (that means no moderation whatsoever)

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 19:30

I do have screenshots, but MN would most likely ban me for posting them

Exactly, why on earth do people expect MN to host racist bilge in the name of evidence for denial posters?
It'll quite rightly get deleted.
I know what I saw with the GhanaGirl comment on the name poll on MN and that was bad enough - (the fact that I know people were impersonating her makes the racist bilge comment make much more sense now!)
So I have absolutely no reason to doubt everyone else.
Blatant racism clearly is rife.

WolffromTheWest · 11/10/2020 19:32

@SimonJT

I am sure they wouldn't you know. They've allowed this thread to run. I do think there's an onus to provide proof for these assertions and I will be the first to condemn them. I do think they need to be seen as posted because from what I saw people were pulled up for overt racism but as I said I wasn't on there much.
Quaagars · 11/10/2020 19:32

A lot of hate is in the eye of the beholder. I don't go looking for it and I don't see it

OK..... but how do you defend what people are saying about the Minstrel post?
Not to mention the other examples given.

EchoCardioGran · 11/10/2020 19:33

@Shooglywheel

I was on there. It was friendly. It wasn’t racist. People just got hacked of that every time on here they gave an opinion on MM that wasn’t favourable they were branded racist. So they took the discussion elsewhere. It people had taken the time to read the threads there properly they would have seen that. I find the abuse and hysteria on here quite distasteful at times.
Shoogly, yes I recognise you from over there. Slight name change. So you don't think posting pictures of minstrels and comparing them to Black Mumsnetters was racist? BAME people posting on here find it racist ( and many other too) but you think we are guilty of "abuse and hysteria." for calling it out?

You think people just wanted to post racist shit about MM and not be labelled racists over there because the mods would not have it on here?
Righty ho, Hmm

DotForShort · 11/10/2020 19:34

When people say they didn't see the racism on that site, I am reminded of the Republican members of the U.S. congress who shake their heads and claim they never heard Trump say XYZ (insert his latest appalling statement/tweet). Nope, never saw it, never heard it, nope.

The racism was in plain sight and went unchallenged as far as I could see.

Now it's very true that MN also has a problem with racism (and disableism and ageism). However, MNHQ respond to reports and delete posts that cross the line. Not every post, not every time, but I do think they are responsive for the most part. Things are (were) very different on that other site.

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 19:34

I am sure they wouldn't you know. They've allowed this thread to run

You seriously can't see the problem with posting racist screenshots in the form of a comment on here?!
Not to mention there's a world of difference to letting this thread run and blatant racist content from other sites being allowed to stand?!

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2020 19:34

Bloody hell SimonJT, those examples you posted are appalling Shock

SimonJT · 11/10/2020 19:34

@WolffromTheWest I would be happy to send them to MNHQ, but as a victim if racism I wouldn’t feel comfortable posting the actual images on a public forum.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 11/10/2020 19:34

'I’m sure you did avoid them. I am sure you didn’t actively post on them. But you did that for a reason. You knew something was amiss. Helena, you were told explicitly what was going on there and you turned your head and you refused to see it. Because you did not want to.'

Oh fgs people can post on another forum without agreeing with or even being aware of every single thing posted. Who are you to tell people off?!

derxa · 11/10/2020 19:35

I do not think either of you are racist. But I think you deliberately shunned what was in front of you because you liked the rest. And that’s not unconnected from racism. I can't let that one go. Helena's been on this site forever and I've never seen anything remotely racist from her. Quite the opposite in fact.

HeIenaDove · 11/10/2020 19:36

You knew something was amiss. Helena, you were told explicitly what was going on there and you turned your head and you refused to see it. Because you did not want to

I behaved exactly the same way i do on here. No different. Ive also had the same user name since December 2014.

There is racism on this site. It gets clamped down on quickly. Ableism.............not so much!

I didnt see the comments Simon is referring to But if those comments were left to stand they shouldnt have been.

Many ableist comments are left to stand on this site. The mask threads are some of the busiest threads on this site. Im sure you do avoid them. Im sure you dont post on them But you do that for a reason. You turn your head and refuse to see it Because you dont want to.

WolffromTheWest · 11/10/2020 19:37

I agree with you @HeIenaDove.

pigeonsfeather · 11/10/2020 19:37

Neither have I, derxa. Hence my comment ‘i do not think either of you are racist.’

I’m not sure how you extrapolated that I am accusing helena of racism given I explicitly state the exact opposite.

What I am saying is that the insistence that ‘we didn’t know’ isn’t particularly convincing either.

Frdd · 11/10/2020 19:37

I do think there's an onus to provide proof for these assertions and I will be the first to condemn them.

So so many posters are making it all up?

HeIenaDove · 11/10/2020 19:37

Thanks @derxa Hope you are doing ok Flowers

Roussette · 11/10/2020 19:38

Saucery
So agree with your post.
I am sure it could have been a relatively happy place for people to post on, if they'd stopped the trolling of MN, and if there'd been moderation (and not 'self moderation', that would not work in a month of Sundays)

A forum is just a group of people. If you think you won't get on with those people because of their posts, you don't join. The owner/admin should've pulled the JustineR thread because it was just nasty most of the time... I mean FFS they even linked pictures of mods from MN, outed them, named them, ridiculed them continually.

That is not a forum I would want to be part of. And I think those certain posters are the engineers of their own downfall as far as I'm concerned.

slithytoveisascientist · 11/10/2020 19:39

Well yes, but every one of those posters who stayed, knew it was there and stayed - tacitly approved of racism. And ableism. And discrimination. And lots of other isms.

How could anyone stay knowing that?

You could apply that about mumsnet though. I think it’s a bit much to say one has to leave an entire forum if the threads they aren’t on are full of isms.

Mumsnet is very ableist and ageist. Yet no one is or should call for the whole forum to go.

Quaagars · 11/10/2020 19:39
@WolffromTheWest I would be happy to send them to MNHQ, but as a victim if racism I wouldn’t feel comfortable posting the actual images on a public forum.
Please don't post them publicly
For so many reasons

 • gets actual, real racists salivating and giggling
 • subjecting BAME people to more abuse
 • sickening decent people who aren't but just don't want to see it
GetOffYourHighHorse · 11/10/2020 19:40

'I would be happy to send them to MNHQ'

Why tf would you be happy to send screenshots of another site to mnhq. I would hazard a guess that they wouldn't give a rat's ass tbh, it is here that they moderate.

It's shut up shop! Stand down and put the pitchforks away folks.

SimonJT · 11/10/2020 19:40

@Quaagars I am BAME, I’m well aware why said person has asked me to post the screenshots, I won’t be taking the bait.

derxa · 11/10/2020 19:40

Thanks @derxa Hope you are doing ok I'm fine. Surgery good and now radiotherapy. All clear.

HeIenaDove · 11/10/2020 19:43
