He's just a terrible old wanker with extreme right wing views is he?

I don't know very much about him apart from he comes from the famous Fox family, he was married to Billie Piper, he was in the TV series Lewis alongside Kevin Whately, and he made a racist arse of himself on Question Time last year.

So what's he up to now? Has he gone even more off the rails?

Why are you being so nasty about how he looks? Horrible bunch of women. He is reacting to cancel culture which is refreshing.

user1471565182 · 06/10/2020 14:45

How is it 'refreshing'? Its the same crap every C lister comes out with to try and get into the telegraph and appeal to simpletons with.

IntermittentParps · 06/10/2020 14:46

Horrible bunch of women.
Who says we're all women?

He is reacting to cancel culture which is refreshing.
Yes, so refreshing to see a privileged white man trying to tell a black woman that talking about racism is boring.

Davespecifico · 06/10/2020 14:58

Does anyone here actually know him?

Bluedogsings · 06/10/2020 15:01

I generally agree with what he says.

I also don’t understand why people get so cross when someone doesn’t share their point of view. Just agree to disagree.

DizzyPigeon · 06/10/2020 15:02

He is reacting to cancel culture which is refreshing

And yet did you see what he did to his co-star? Deliberately trying to get a backlash against her just because she blocked him on twitter? Accusing her of 'cancelling' him, when she did nothing public? What he did was much more akin to cancel culture than what she did.

When it comes to cancel culture, he's an absolute hypocrite.

Gilead · 06/10/2020 15:04

@Bluedogsings, because he’s racist and sexist and he should be called out on it. I’m not going to agree to disagree when my dd is told to go back home. ( Suffolk, as it happens).

SimonJT · 06/10/2020 16:37

@Stay123

He thinks gay men are peadophiles He thinks single mums shouldn’t be able to claim maintenance He dislikes women in general and comes across as a bit of an incel He is openly racist.

Being racist, sexist and homophobic isn’t particularly refreshing.

SimonJT · 06/10/2020 16:39

@Bluedogsings

I generally agree with what he says.

I also don’t understand why people get so cross when someone doesn’t share their point of view. Just agree to disagree.

I’m not going to agree to disagree with someone who thinks all gay men are peadophiles, dislikes women, thinks single mums shouldn’t be able to claim maintenance and wants people like me (brown) to “go home”.

You may also share his racist, sexist and homophobic views, but I’m not going to agree to disagree to things that are very close to being a hate crime.

froggygoneacourting · 06/10/2020 17:12

This whole "it's just a different opinion why do you care that someone has a different opinion from you!!" line is so destructive, and I see it constantly on MN. Ironically usually from people who flip their lid at the idea of anyone having a different opinion from them.

If Fox is allowed to have "different opinions", then why are we not allowed to hold the opinion that he is racist?

And being racist, trying to suppress free speech, and being an abuser of women, is not "having an opinion." (Of course the same "it's just an opinion" posters go silent and pretend not to hear when confronted with his abuse of women.)

I swear if Hitler was alive there would be MNers tantrumming over how "he just has a different opinion leave him alone you nasty bigot who thinks everyone has to think the same as you!!!!"

AuntMasha · 06/10/2020 17:17

His views are far from ‘refreshing’ and belong to a rather less enlightened era.

froggygoneacourting · 06/10/2020 17:18

And he's not "reacting" to cancel culture. He's the one promoting cancel culture.

He's not JK Rowling, being de-platformed due to "unpopular" views. The opposite: he's received a massive unearned platform due to his views. He's decided that he's above criticism, and is pretending that criticism is "being cancelled."

Pretty ironic coming from a man who had an Asian man fired for tweeting a negative opinion about him, forcibly took money from an organisation that exists to support low-paid actors, gave a letter of sexual harassment complaint written by his former makeup artist to the press, published private messages from and encouraged abuse against a female co-star, and is currently calling on people to boycott a supermarket purely because that supermarket doesn't share his opinions.

I also don’t understand why people get so cross when someone doesn’t share their point of view. Just agree to disagree.

Someone needs to put this on a billboard directly facing Fox's front window.

chomalungma · 06/10/2020 17:26

@Bluedogsings

I generally agree with what he says.

I also don’t understand why people get so cross when someone doesn’t share their point of view. Just agree to disagree.

He has a certain point of view. His point of view is reinforced by the mass media who give him a platform to express his point of view.

He gets upset when people suggest that being a white male, he may not be aware of racism and sexism.

And he gets a platform to say how upset he is about being called out for that.

So I agree to disagree with him - and will use whatever platform I have to disagree with his points.

chomalungma · 06/10/2020 17:29

Poor thing has no one to listen to his views

Apart from Spiked Online, The Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Spectator, LBC with Julia Hartley-Brewer

It must be terrible to be de-platformed like that.

He has no idea.

froggygoneacourting · 06/10/2020 17:55

And the front cover of the Sunday Times magazine, his column in the Evening Standard, Twitter.

It's like that episode of Black Mirror where people can be "blocked" in real life, so no one can see or hear them.

Chilling.

Lonelycrab · 06/10/2020 17:59

Gotta say I didn’t really know much about him till a few weeks ago, but he seemed to come across as a bit of a twat.

No I’ve learnt a bit more I can see he’s a complete wanker.

longwayoff · 06/10/2020 22:49

He appears to have acquired the full set of frothing right wing tropes. I expect he's anti 'the elite' too? Grin

user1471565182 · 06/10/2020 23:05

Maybe ask him why he gets so angry with people who dont agree with him, bluedog

@nibdedibble

twitter.com/politicworm/status/1310953494799626240?s=21

There are three threads here with names and affiliations. It’s unlikely to be totally accurate but he himself has said where his £5m funding has come from.

Those Twitter threads are fascinating!

Also somewhat concerning. Fox as photogenic (well, he was) front man for people with long-simmering plans.

My 3rd thread on who else might be involved with the Laurence Fox Party.

Some clues are in the first follows of its new Twitter feed.

My guess is Reclaim will have its first Parliamentarian as soon as the party officially launches in November:

Lady Claire Regina Fox

First, the first 14 follows:

Looza
Darren Grimes
Peter Whittle
Titania McGrath
Claire Fox
Calvin Robinson

Journals/ists:
Spiked
The Critic
The Epoch Times
Christopher Hope (Telegraph)
Tim Shipman (Sunday Times)
Harry Cole (Sun)

Fox is an odious, jumped up little man. Racist, misogynist, pro hunting.
What's not to dislike?

Aridane · 07/10/2020 01:00

I’m not going to agree to disagree with someone who thinks all gay men are peadophiles, dislikes women, thinks single mums shouldn’t be able to claim maintenance and wants people like me (brown) to “go home”.

Well put

alexdgr8 · 07/10/2020 01:11

i think he had a rather disjointed childhood, being dragged around by his evangelical parents to rallies, mission events etc, while his father james fox who was a distinguished actor, see the film, the servant, co-starring dirk bogarde, gave up acting during LF's formative years.
so maybe the chickens are coming home to roost now.
he seems not to be quite well at the moment.

PotholeParadies · 07/10/2020 01:57

I listened to part of that podcast of Delingpole's with him on, before it just got too unutterably tedious. I also follow him on twitter, for amusement value.

Laurence Fox is not someone we need anywhere near government.

Highlight of the podcast: Laurence Fox ranting about the feminism angle or whatever of a Gillette ad because he takes exception to an ad telling him what to think. Confused

Mate, that is what adverts do. They tell you that this brand of bread is better, this yogurt will make you slimmer, this brand of deodorant will make you sexier. Not the sharpest tool in the box, our Lozza.

This week, Argos announced they were going to investigate if they had an ethnicity pay gap, and Fox misread the announcement as an admission that they currently deliberately pay ethnic minority staff less than white staff.

One paragraph and he misread it. He'd be a real asset as an MP, where they have to read and comprehend densely written legislation and then vote on it. Not.

longwayoff · 07/10/2020 07:32

This is just another 'let's rinse the plebs for a laugh' party isn't it? Glad to see Baroness Fox, ex revolutionary communist, now ennobled by Bozo for Brexit support, is still firm in her political convictions. Whatever they may be today. Tomorrow, who knows?
