He's just a terrible old wanker with extreme right wing views is he?

I don't know very much about him apart from he comes from the famous Fox family, he was married to Billie Piper, he was in the TV series Lewis alongside Kevin Whately, and he made a racist arse of himself on Question Time last year.

So what's he up to now? Has he gone even more off the rails?

chomalungma, I think we are talking at cross purposes here. That is precisely the point I was trying to make. Lawrence Fox keeps whining that people are racist and sexist towards him when what is actually happening is that he keeps dismissing their lived experiences as women and/or black.

No it would not

@corythatwas

So when a man says that the UK is great for women and there is equality - and he then dismisses the view of a woman who says that because he is a man, he might not understand sexism against women - then there is no element of sexism in that - when he DISMISSES such an argument.

I struggle to see how you can't see an element of sexism in that.

And what you said goes against your next comment

No it would not. This is not about innate gender differences, it's about lived experience. If my brother told me I might not understand what it's like being a trawlerman I'd say "fair enough" because I've never been one, he has. If my dd tells me I don't know what it's like being physically disabled, then again I'd have to say "fair enough

The point is - he did not say 'fair enough' when it was suggested he wouldn't know about racism because he was a white male. He didn't ask about the woman's experiences.

He decided to hold his head in has hands, say that he can't help being a white male (which is true) and then called her racist.

That kind of goes against your comment - when you say "fair enough" - it's like someone saying "I can't help not being disabled" and then ignoring the viewpoint of life from someone who is disabled.

Such a sudden influx of "mixed race women" who think the only kind of racism that exists is anti-white racism. Funny how they're always "mixed race" isn't it?

Id rather people were able to express an opinion-whether this differs from mine or not.
The only people being prevented from expressing an opinion are those who have criticised Fox.

Debate and discussion seem to be outdated concepts.

Ive learnt a lot about John Thaw from following Reece Dinsdale on Twitter. user is right. Thaw and Fox would not have got on at all.

I'm amazed Kevin Whately lasted so long beside him. John Thaw would have sorted the snivelling little fascist out.

I mean - if a man said that the UK was a great place for woman and an there was equality between the sexes, and it was suggested that because he was male, he might not understand sexism against women as a woman would - would that be a sexist thing to say?

Anyone care to answer @chomalungma’s question?

This is why I dislike Donal Trump . He has made it easier for every dumb, narcissistic, racist, homophobic, sexist prick to enter politics.
Laurence Fox is a man with low self esteem and is being validated by all the ‘tell it like it is’ bigots
He needs therapy for whatever addiction/issues he has

Janice Turner, a neighbour of Fox’s, commented in her Sunday Times column this morning that “what Laurence doesn’t mention [about his Sainsbury’s boycott] is that he lives a mile over a very steep hill from our local Sainsbury’s but about 100 metres from Morrison’s. As political protests go, it’s not exactly the Jarrow March.”

She does have a way with words Grin

I think this is a very valid point, and one that Lawrence Fox would do well to remember. He's really not good with people holding a different opinion to his.

Expressing an opinion is fine. Publishing baseless, untruthful statements about somebody is not. Ask Katy Hopkins. She can keep you up to date on libel law.

I can’t believe what a twat he has turned out to be! I think he wants to be the new Katie Hopkins!

He got to the 'being sued on Twitter for defamation stage' much quicker than she did.

A little snippet from Popbitch:

Given that he’s in today’s Sunday Times talking about how his outspoken performance on Question Time cost him professionally, and we’ve been asking for stories of strange celebrity cocktails – it feels like the stars have aligned for us to revisit this little anecdote.

A few years ago, Laurence Fox was lined up to host a pilot episode of a new TV entertainment show – but the shoot did not go well. After seeming alright for the day leading up to filming, Lozza suddenly became very weird on camera. Bleary-eyed, erratic, no-one could figure out what had gotten into him.

They later discovered it was a massive amount of cocaine – which he’d apparently tried to counterbalance with a touch of ketamine.

Needless to say, he didn’t get a call back.*
