He's just a terrible old wanker with extreme right wing views is he?

I don't know very much about him apart from he comes from the famous Fox family, he was married to Billie Piper, he was in the TV series Lewis alongside Kevin Whately, and he made a racist arse of himself on Question Time last year.

So what's he up to now? Has he gone even more off the rails?

Because only historians are allowed an opinion.

When it comes to historical facts, historians probably know better than non-historians.

For example, Laurence Fox said that forcing diversity on people is institutionally racist in relation to the inclusion of a Sikh soldier in the film 1917 and that this was not in keeping with the period the film was set.

An actual historian told him this was wrong and Sikh soldiers did fight alongside soldiers from other regiments, not just as part of all-Sikh groups.

His response wasn't to admit he was wrong or that he was talking shite, his response was that he's not a historian. Maybe dont spout about history then and present your historically inaccurate "opinions" as facts then?

@Ocip I'm sorry to hear that. I remember reading an interview with him when he was still married and he sounded like such a devoted husband and father, I really warmed to him. What a shame he's not nice in person. Nevertheless, I maintain he is struggling with his mental health and I hope someone close to him will take care of him.

I agree with those saying he isn't well mentally. His divorce and losing his kids has destroyed him.

He’s also complained about black and working class actors complaining ‘once they have five million quid in the bank.’
Because of course you have excellent employment chances if you’re seen as someone who may disturb the status quo. 😡

@WiserOwl

I watched that question time. I don't remember him making a ''racist arse'' of himself. I thought he was sticking to the biology of the biological men are not women line which to me is a basic truth.

I don't think you have remembered that moment on Question Time very well!

I just came on to say he reminds me of literally every middle aged divorced dad in my town who seem to spend their 40s and 50s getting angrier at the rest of the world. The type who's anger and sense of injustice seems to be directly proportionate to how happy their ex partner is now they're no longer together

I think it’s more that they are becoming less and less important and listened to .... getting a taste of what it’s like to be a woman or BAME man, and feeling powerless in the world - hopefully he can use this experience to imagine how shit it is to constantly be ignored and looked over because of your sex/race/disability and put some energy into helping minorities find a voice.

Strange. it suddenly isnt 'cancel culture' when hes ranting about sikhs and ethnic minorities in films. Or defending those wanting to obliterate Megan Markle.

But he wasn't complaining about a Sikh soldier because he is racist he was complaining because, he believed, it to be tokenism and not historically correct
I'm not bothered about him either way but that comment he made is taken out of context whether he is historically correct or not

He got upset because when a lady on QT suggested that the treatment of Meghan Markle had an element of racism and sexism, he dismissed what she was saying and said that we live in an equal society. When it was suggested that he had white male privilege and was going to be unaware of racism because of that, he dismissed that and generated headlines - no doubt tapping into the feelings of white men who get sick of being told they have privilege when it comes to racism.

Maybe he's not a racist. But he doesn't seem to give a shit about racism.

He jumped on it as an example of pc gorn maaad without bothering his arse to check the facts. There's more than one way to be racist.

Christ judging by some of the 'breath of fresh air' comments on here he's going to end up Prime Minister isn't he?

But it was historically correct, Thousandsaresailing. Sikhs were amalgamated into British mainland regiments. He wasnt coming from an historical accuracy angle, He didnt like it because he was foreign. You know it and I know it.

Delingpole then discussed ‘shoehorning’ different ethnicities into other films, with Laurence saying:

‘It is kind of racist – if you talk about institutional racism, which is what everyone loves to go on about, which I’m not a believer in, there is something institutionally racist about forcing diversity on people in that way. You don’t want to think about [that].’

Later, Laurence praised the war film, saying it was ‘so good’ – with Delingpole quipping: ‘Apart from the gratuitous Sikh.’

-Not sure what extremely nuanced point we're all missing from that which makes it in any way not hateful, untrue crap.

Jump on something that you think has happened. Retweet it with your outrage. Reinforce the belief of your followers that the world has gone mad. If you're really lucky, friendly media reports will also report it and then you might get a column as well. Any corrections will not be reported

*see also Iola Olufemi when she suggested that there be more BAME writers on Cambridge college courses. It was reported that she wanted white writers banned. She got a lot of online abuse and vitriol.

This was in the Daily Telegraph. They later published a small correction

inews.co.uk/essentials/daily-telegraph-student-forced-cambridge-drop-white-authors-story-wrong-99956

The culture wars we are in are so full of misinformation, people getting outraged and people trying to stir outrage. But this has an effect on real people.

Also - it's incredibly ironic to hear papers talking about cancel culture and online bullying - and then they do exactly the same to people.

What was interesting of his attack on Rebecca Front was she and him were obviously very good friends but she couldn't abide the direction he has taken. Which I think suggests this is all just an act. Either he believes these things and his friends didn't know or he doesn't believe any of this stuff and is doing it because he has already ruined his career.

@chomalungma

Still, good for him for starting a political party.
I hope he opens himself up to debate, up to scrutiny, detailed questioning and discussion of his views on issues like feminism, women's rights, workplace issues, the roles of parents, families, equal opportunities, custody issues, domestic violence etc.

Haha, yes that would be good wouldn't it? I can really see him offering up informed and intelligent comments on all of the above. A man of the people, speaking for all of us, yes?

Anyone who trashes the existence of the BLM movement and denies they enjoy WMP - when they are a white privileged male - is so clearly deluded and massively thick.

Go ahead Laurence - seems like you crave the attention. Good luck with the backlash.
