Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

Council pool (well Better it is called) is open here but no idea how it can afford to keep going with the rules meaning it is pretty quiet- overheard them saying they may have to close by Christmas (financial reasons) unless more council funding or something.

Putting off tacking the boys messy room here, they bring home all sorts of rubbish from boot sales and the like. Had DH worrying about all sorts recently- he's developed insomnia - not about the Virus though but about all sorts of stuff- pensions, the DC, the future, his work and projects...even going on about getting older and not being able to walk up al the stairs ! (he's not normally like this, he runs and is quite fit, but his dad has recently declined and in hospital and think that might be causing it) I try and say look, he is late 70s (his dad) we don't need to worry about that for years, but it is getting to him. I think he needs to just take things as it comes a bit more.

I have alos noticed strange neuroticism from neighbours (on and on about dogs in the communal garden, wanting us to complain) Maybe this is all about some kind of sense of loss of control? Not sure. Anyway it's all wearing. Emotional load I think they call it. Might try a bastard walk before the rain starts again.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/09/2020 11:21

On the GPs, I think I mentioned Benenden health before (can google it for details) it does GP phone lines and prescriptions and is about £10 a month, I don't go for private healthcare in general but this is some kind of mutual society set up originally for postal workers, it works with the NHS - anyway have used in the past for varicose vein surgery (not covered by NHS anymore) and they were great. I agree though we should not need this two tier system. You need 6 months before accessing healthcare but I think the GPs is straightaway..

Conservatory roof is leaking where I sit. Just enough to be the slight annoying drip.

Thankfully the guy who built it lives next door

@NothingIsWrong
@everyonesmama

This may give you some information to help you to decide. I found it reasonably easy to read and it tells you the benefits of the app and also what it can't do. Any messages about contacts are purely to the phone so there can be no fines involved.

@DominaShantotto
Synchronous and asynchronous teaching

Say what now?

Live and recorded... but they're fucking obsessed with these terms constantly and it's doing my bloody head in already!

Well okaaayyy. Love collecting silly fancy names for stuff!

I think you just maybe have to let them go on about covid covid covid for now & let everyone get it out of their systems.

Award yourself a point for every mention & reward yourself later. May be best not to have a sip of alcohol for each mention though...

Caught DH asleep during a Teams presentation this morning. I hope his camera was switched off.

Taswama · 30/09/2020 13:14

I have a 'strategy day' on Teams in a few weeks time. Luckily only for 2 hours not the whole day, but still...

DPs company have interpreted the govt guidance differently to mine and are saying people are welcome to go into the office if they can work more effectively there and have given a list of activities that may be done more effectively face to face.

TheOrchidKiller · 30/09/2020 14:13

DPs are actually en route to my house!!! It's been 9 months since we've clapped eyes on each other (apart from the failed attempts at videos, which we gave up on).

I'm excited. They phoned to say they had stopped for a picnic & to use the service station toilets but they won't touch anything, & they have wipes!!

So yes, excited. But also, give me strength. (I see their wipes. I raise them wipes, spray & hand gel! I draw the line at opening windows as it's too cold).

Cattermole · 30/09/2020 14:18

So pleased for you @TheOrchidKiller!!!
Safe journey to your DPs.

Really hope it goes well! Perhaps for full funsies, you could meet them at the door with bin bags, demand they undress into the bags and immediately go for a shower while you boil wash their clothes Grin just to see their reaction.

Anyone else get irrationally annoyed that "stay safe" seems to have become a standard thing now when people are signing off messages, calls and emails?

ISaySteadyOn · 30/09/2020 14:29

Yes! Also Covid safe and Covid secure

justasking111 · 30/09/2020 14:38

Had MPs office on the phone OH urgent op march cancelled, well come June we enquired about it, stonewalled not a single reply to five letters until August we then contacted MP. Great team said they would handle it. Zilch response to MP cut off date 17th September legally. Still zip. They now have 24 hours to respond. It is comforting to know that it was not personal that we were ignored, they are ignoring MPs as well.

Now this may well be a welsh thing, and england is cracking along now. But welsh is labour the birth of the NHS. Heard today we have two covid cases in this hospital so they are not exactly over run. I would nip over to see how busy this hospital is but they are not letting anyone in for a nose covid doncha know.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/09/2020 14:43

Yes, in particular from people you know well - the stay safe and also, stay well...it is like part of a cult or something

It is sick in my opinion a brainwashed mantra.
Orangeblossom7777 · 30/09/2020 15:02

Justasking just seen this on the BBC about health care in Wales, waiting lists. That's rubbish for your OH.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-politics-54357153

Not sure what the op is but that Benenben might help perhaps if it keeps going on. (depending what it is) if it works in Wales that is. You need to be with them 6 months first though.

Orangeblossom7777 · 30/09/2020 15:06

Yes it has a hospital in Newport it uses...hopefully it gets sorted out soon Flowers

Willow2017 · 30/09/2020 15:25

That's fab Orchid enjoy yourselves.

TheOrchidKiller · 30/09/2020 15:38

As for "stay safe", I favour, "Be careful out there," (Hill Street Blues), or, "Careful now," (Father Ted).
"Mind how you go, be lucky!" is another favourite.

CruCru · 30/09/2020 15:54

I can’t stand Stay Safe. Unless someone has the habit of running out onto the road or attracting the attention of muggers, it isn’t possible to live normally and be “safe”. I mean - yes, I could stay in my house at all times and be “safe” but I would be quite unhealthy so it wouldn’t be safe in the end.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 30/09/2020 16:10

@TheOrchidKiller - did you have to post that? Now every time someone at work says "stay safe" I'm going to be soo tempted to do a father Ted impression "careful now". Ahhh! Grin

DominaShantotto · 30/09/2020 16:14

I hate emails that open with "I hope you are all well and keeping safe" and always want to reply "well, I WAS planning on going skydiving without a parachute this weekend but now I've read your email I'm going to rethink my plans"

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 30/09/2020 16:19

@AgentCooper - we've also signed up to a video health service. Its shit knowing we are only getting the service everyone should have because we can afford it. Its cruel the way covid is being used as an excuse to slash the service level for basics like this. Its not OK.

JamSarnie · 30/09/2020 16:20

I internally cringe when someone says 'stay safe'. It's so meaningless to me and I have to stop myself shouting LIFE ISN'T SAFE and unclench

countrygirl99 · 30/09/2020 16:34

Among my team at work the usual sign off us now "look after yourself" which feels inclusive of a whole range of things. But 3 out of 4 are dealing with significant non Covid elderly parent issues so perhaps have a broader perspective.
