Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

They were quizzing her on what the students could and couldn't do, very funny as a throwaway question at the end Grin

Pissed off now. I know I haven't waited that long but (theoretically) mine should be processed quickly as coming via NHS. My sister's earlier this week was back in 24 hours (standard testing site), so where the fuck is mine?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/09/2020 16:53

Some servers are showing over half think gyms and pools, beauty salons should close. Who are these people?

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/09/2020 16:54

They were asking something similar of Matt Hanjob the other day, about one night stands or something. Was quite funny.

Do I want to know what on earth a lockdown mulberry is?! Do we have to go round it singing? Although that sounds like the kind of thing which is currently forbidden.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 17:04

Picadilly, sorry my fault, I mentioned I was temped by the Style and Beauty board to buy a bag in the Mulberry summer sale. Was in the vein of "ive done nothing for months, gone no where and now have the money to spend on a fancy bag that I wouldn't normally be able to afford, as I'd have spent that on coffees with friends, or babysitters & theatre tickets and all the nice things I normally do with my life."

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 17:06

Dorset- how long have you been waiting? I'm not sure what I'm going to do on Monday.

justasking111 · 26/09/2020 17:10

Used to tie our boat up overnight against part of a mulberry harbour, would hate to have to live on them though.

I went on a student forum the other evening to see how the students were coping having had a sad video call with DS. Well they certainly have not given up sex from what I saw Grin

Reedwarbler · 26/09/2020 17:14

I can't believe what I've just been reading (but perhaps my fault for going on the bbc website). Students in Manchester are unable to leave their accomodation and police and security staff are guarding the building. Meanwhile police in London have 'shut down' a march protesting restrictions. In the former, the students are complaining they are being held against their will (fair point, I think if it were me I would be getting legal advice), in the latter, how long will it be before crowds decline to disperse and violence breaks out? How long before someone is (sadly) seriously injured or killed? Britain is becoming a police state. Meanwhile crime goes unabated and uninvestigated while police are used to push the government's line. I really can't believe this is happening.

DorsetBlueMovie · 26/09/2020 17:18

Disgruntled - had it done at work on Thursday midday. Over 48hours. Which I know isn't out of the ordinary and people have waited much longer, I'm just so annoyed at the incompetency in having a testing service so wholly incapable of anticipating or meeting demand.

Don't worry about your comments too much, I didn't read it in that way. Enjoy your bag.... we're trying to count up what would have been spent on little bits here and there and thinking of spending it on something too probably bills or something exciting

dkl55 · 26/09/2020 17:21

Checking in!

Wanderings · 26/09/2020 17:42

BBC article saying “not possible to enter a negative test result in the app”.

Surprise surprise. And I bet that was not an accident.

I feel really conflicted on these protests in London. It’s great that we’re seeing rebellion against the madness, but sooner or later Saint Boris 😇 is going to retaliate in the only way he knows, by saying “you didn’t behave, so I’m going to make things worse, and order a London lockdown”.

dingit · 26/09/2020 17:45

I don't understand how the BLM protests were allowed but today's weren't?

SirSamuelVimes · 26/09/2020 18:05

@dingit

Public feeling. No government wanted to be branded as anti-black racists. Whereas today's protest cab be written off as conspiracy theory nutters.
TheOrchidKiller · 26/09/2020 18:10

Do I want to know what on earth a lockdown mulberry is?!

Oh dear, I've googled "lockdown mulberry" & nothing came up...because now I see it was in reference to disgruntledguineapig's new handbag. As the previous posts were about students & one-night-stands I had mistakenly thought a lockdown mulberry was slang for some kind of sex party in a hall of residence. Blush

WouldBeGood · 26/09/2020 18:13

@TheOrchidKiller I think that should now be used for an illicit shag in lockdown

Orangeblossom7777 · 26/09/2020 18:15

15,000 people at that protest in London today. Quite a lot. From all over the UK.

Yes same happening with students in Scotland, hundreds of them are locked in tiny rooms with police outside as well.

I mentioned it on the corona boards and was told to 'stop moaning' Hmm

Brings a whole new meaning to "mulberry Bush" Grin

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 18:52

To be fair, these days if I hear a phrase I dont know what it means, I presume its a young person sex thing as well...

You know what, im bloody furious for those who are having a go at students for daring to mingle a bit when they are away from home and know no one. I bet those complaining weren't all "We are at university to get a qualification and make future work contacts" when they were late teens, I bet these people went to student union bars and drank in happy hours and snogged/shagged random other students. I bet then went to parties and bars and clubs and had fun. I bet they made friends, talking to people they'd not met before.

I hate the idea that young people who are the least likely to get seriously sick from covid are the ones who are expected to give up the most, and still are being given shit about it. They should all be allowed to go home if all lessons are online only, and be refunded their rent for this term.

(My dcs are primary aged so I have no dog in this fight, its the unfairness I cant stand.)

Pinkflipflop85 · 26/09/2020 18:53

I've had to go out and buy some thick cardigans, hats, gloves and thick socks today. We aren't allowed to close windows or doors in the classroom and it is already fucking freezing when the wind blows through! Had 5 year olds in tears on Friday because they were cold 😔

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 18:54

Dorset we were tuesday. I bloody hope its not inconclusive and we have to go through this whole rigmarole again.

justasking111 · 26/09/2020 18:56
@TheOrchidKiller I think that should now be used for an illicit shag in lockdown
An improvement on netflix and chill a phrase I innocently used which cracked up my DCs. Blush

justasking111 · 26/09/2020 19:02

Bloody hell, some of those students must be very frightened in Manchester. People have to go in and check up on them, health wise and to make sure they have enough food to last a fortnight. Which they may need to keep in their rooms where possible. Its madness.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-54289648

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 19:02

@Pinkflipflop85 - I work in a school office which was freezing last year anyway, I'm now sort of hoping DDs covid test result doesn't come back until Monday night as I've got some new jumpers being delivered on Monday and I'm worried I'm going to need them!

Surely if children are freezing they'll not work very well?

Taswama · 26/09/2020 19:05

Oh god, I'm glad I've never used that one!
DP got a dirty look in the queue outside Waitrose this afternoon for not wearing a mask. Apparently everyone else was, even though they were stood outdoors.
They have re-instated their security guard monitoring numbers due to volume of people.
