Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

Thanks for the welcome! 2 very spoilt GPs here, busy munching the lawn in the sunshine.

Still no test results. We are bored. So very bored.

Might make soup....

DH is sulking over the fact he hasn't got £120 to buy a clock that plays different Final Fantasy 7 songs every hour.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 11:55

Oddly, I've not had such a healthy bank account for years. In lockdown the S&B board ladies convinced me to buy a Mulberry hand bag in the summer sale, I've bought several nice tops online, but I'm saving so much through having no social life and doing nothing but going for healthy walks.

Pre lockdown dh and I would have a couple of nights out as a couple each month plus out with our separate friends, but I've not paid out for a babysitter since March.

I'd like life to get back to normal now.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/09/2020 11:55

Good luck to Eve today & anyone else with uni DCs.

Commiserations to anyone with a small child who doesn't sleep.

Am starting to feel very frustrated with DM but I'm also worried. We still haven't met this year, mostly because of her high anxiety. I've been sympathetic & not pushed it but have now pointed out that if we don't meet up very soon it's likely we may not manage it at all this year if further restrictions are enforced in England.

She agreed with that, but then said we'd have to see how it went in the next few days. I'm now thinking she almost wants there to be a no-households-mixing rule so that she doesn't have to step out of her comfort zone.

She also knows she's being illogical- she has met up with friends this week & enjoyed that. (Which is more than I've done).

She has also become incredibly angry & intolerant of anyone not "distancing" (as she calls it). She had a rant about people putting used baskets back in the "clean zone" at the supermarket. She's lost her sense of humour too. I think she's also angry about some other stuff which is nothing to do with me, but it all comes out in one of her rants down the phone. If she does agree to a visit it's going to be stressful.

Much as I feel empathy I am also a bit annoyed with her now. We could've met in August when the weather was nice & gone outdoors more.
I feel horrible for thinking this because I know it's her mental health going wrong again.

Reedwarbler · 26/09/2020 12:00

I have to say, on a morning like this, everything doesn't seem so bad. Here there is a chilly wind but the sun is absolutely sparkling and the air feel fresh and clean. I have just walked the dog and was trying to absorb the beauty of it to last me through those long dark days of winter. I feel invigorated. Hope it's sunny where you all are too.
I saw not a soul out in the fields, which is a bonus. There is very little covid in our area, and never has been much either (i'm in the SW). I know there is not much to cheer about, but it's amazing how such a small thing can give a temporary lift and make life almost feel normal.
An afternoon of gardening is now on the cards.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/09/2020 12:04

On that note, my spinach is thriving and I now have evidence that I solved my tomato blossom end rot problem!

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 12:08

@TheOrchidKiller - it must be hard, the fear level for so many is out of proportion to the risk. Being lonely makes you angry. But that doesn't help you.

Willow2017 · 26/09/2020 12:15

Good news today at last!
Army cadets are restarting next month for ds2. There will still be some online stuff (there has been throughout this) Usual hand sanitizers and hand washing will be in place but masks not compulsory. Yeah!
Only bugbear is that they are taking temps before you are allowed in😠

Oh and parents aren't allowed within 100m of the place so to park at a distance! There are only about 9 cadets although some from neighbouring units may be attending now and only about 4 parents actually pick up as mostly the kids walk there and back. Parents don't even get out the cars! I suppose in large towns or cities that might seem reasonable but not here😄
The whole thing is pages long due to emphasizing about Covid-Safe, gov guidelines and parents worrying and how hard they are working to ensure safety of adults and kids to reassure them. 😞
Oh well its a start not for a month though.

TheOrchidKiller · 26/09/2020 12:21

@DisgruntledGuineaPig my parents are the sort of retired people who are usually never at home because they live life to the full, & when offered the chance to try something new would say, "Yeah, why not?!"

I do not see them as "old". In fact I've been lucky in that the majority of my older relatives have been active & young at heart into their 90s.

But this is making DM in particular "old".

Anxiety is a horrible thing, I've been there in other ways, not with covid though. It doesn't help that everywhere you turn there is Covid Gloom thrown in your face, so if, like DM, you are afraid of it, your fears are validated constantly.

@Reedwarbler not much sun here, & the wind has blown everything about in the garden again, but you are right about the importance of getting outside.

On that note I shall get off my arse...

TheOrchidKiller · 26/09/2020 12:29

@willow2017
That's good news about cadets.

If it helps I saw something official at work yesterday about how taking temps with "scanner" type thermometers is a bit pointless as it only measures skin temperature & not core temperature. It's the core temp that counts. A skin temp reading alone is not an effective way of screening for covid.
(Sorry, can't post a link as I'm not at work).

TBH when confronted with a laser temp check (which was highly unnecessary) I just went along with the performance of it. It was that or not be allowed to join in, & be even more bored.
But it does irritate me.

DorsetBlueMovie · 26/09/2020 12:32

It's a beautiful day here (SW too) and I'm stuck at home, still waiting for the results of my test. Having a right grump on!

That's guinea pigs and dogs mentioned in the same morning. Pics please - I need cheering up before I go full on Kevin The Teenager.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/09/2020 12:46

Do I wake DH up?
I woke up at 10.
We were supposed to be out at 9:30 Grin

Feeling better today. My body has just felt fatigued the last few days. It was obviously going to for a couple of days after Sunday's race. Then my period finally arrived (I say finally, it was on time, it's just I tend to feel better after day 1 compared to the build up) and yesterday my muscles just felt exhausted. The excercise was deliberately light and reduced impact following the race and my hormones so it's not that. Then Covidnoia kicks in, but absolutely no symptoms since the back to school cold a couple of weeks ago. Anyway, it's a bit better today although my shoulder still feels like it's done something stupid with a kettlebell when I know it hasn't.

I have generally felt tired by Friday anyway. Appologies to those that have been stupidly busy with little let up for months. It's a shock getting back to about 2/3s of my normal routines Grin It is good really, and I'm enjoying having a sense of what day it is back.

Its the forehead one that shows green or red!
Bit pointless considering they will have walked half a mile in uniform, boots and the heavy uniform coat they are maybe gonna be hot! 🤣🤣

flower11 · 26/09/2020 13:44

Dorset I'm south west too. A friend of mine had a test in Wales as that was the nearest test site apparently. She has been waiting 8 days and still no result!

justasking111 · 26/09/2020 13:52

Been amusing myself and OH by putting my hands behind my back reaching into my leggings butt crack to pull a pretend gun out turning round and shooting him then myself. After watching the news I tried to see if it was possible. A complete failure I need much longer arms.

🤣🤣 guinea pig update - its started raining so they are hiding under the rhododendron.

The garden is fully enclosed so we just open their hutch and let them wander about, usually they take themselves back to bed before dark so we can lock up the hutch.

I still have no results through. At what point do you consider theyve lost them? I really need to go back to work on Monday.

Upside, just realised the jumper I've put on today is the same shade of pink as one of my masks. I need to get that negative result so I can go our somewhere wearing said mask today, so that for one day only, I can give the impression I'm the sort of proper grown up who's got their shir together enough to colour coordinate mask to outfit.

Wanderings · 26/09/2020 14:06

With the App: there is a thread running about it, which has a lot of sensible replies: far more people saying they won’t use it that will.

It does feel to me like a step too far. It’s voluntarily sending your details to the state tyranny (even though they’ve assured us this isn’t happening; the same people who told us we could turn this virus around in twelve weeks), and a massive step of sleep walking into 1984. I shall be resisting anywhere that makes use of this app compulsory, even if that happens to be my own church.

There’s some blurb in the app that says “so we can get back to the things we love”. How? At the moment, all I see is that my phone might say at any moment “ha, Boris says you have to self isolate for two weeks, and we can check if you don’t “. The clowns might be telling us that’s not true, but I KNOW they’re going to sneak it in, and the only consequences for the government will be some token resignations, which have probably been planned already. I don’t see how this is going to give us more freedom. One reason for the increase in “cases” lately is the increase in tests. Surely this app is going to exacerbate that?

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 26/09/2020 14:43

Oh fuck this. I’m out of here. On a week where I’ve had to turn down a job I’m over-qualified for because I can’t commit because I’m on my own with 2 kids and I’m down to less than £2 in my bank and someone’s banging on about lockdown mulberry’s. tinkly laugh

And I misread it as 2 general practitioners!

Used to have guineas as a child. They made a racket when they were excited.

Still not got out today but I have clean floors for once, & as no one else was at home I stuck the ipod on & sang along.

Trapped under the cat now.

TabbyStar · 26/09/2020 14:48

I had a test in April or May and I'm still awaiting results....

CruCru · 26/09/2020 15:42

Crumbs. I've just had a nose at the Coronavirus threads. Think I need a sit down and a cup of tea here.

Quite! Forget festivals, casual sex and dancing the night away forever more apparently.

Had to sit on my hands not to tell someone they don't understand the data they are quoting as well but since it's a school thread bashing my head against a brick wall would be more pleasurable!

DorsetBlueMovie · 26/09/2020 16:33

Speaking of casual sex, did anyone else catch Radio1 asking NS about one night stands? She declined to answer directly so they followed up with "what about friends with benefits?" 😂😂😂

Worldgonecrazy · 26/09/2020 16:42

@DorsetBlueMovie I don’t listen to Radio 1 unless forced to at work. What was the question? Hope it made her squirm.

Had a bad day. Met two dementors. One elderly ex army type told me I wasn’t wearing a mask. Ten out of ten for observation. When I told him I was exempt, he said ‘carry on as you were’. I told him in my most middle class icy tone that I did not need his permission. He then said it was a joke to which I replied that it wasn’t funny.

He avoided me around the rest of Waitrose.

Anyway, in good news I ran up a very challenging hill TWICE!! Legs no longer working 👣
