Just trying to live a meaningful life in an increasingly bizarre world in which nothing makes sense any more.

@DorsetBlueMovie

Pretty sure that's what MN was invented for back in the day...
DorsetBlueMovie · 25/09/2020 22:20

Thanks @Littlebelina, I don't even know if I believe the whole 'sleep regression' thing anymore. I just know I've done a shite job of getting her to sleep. We had a period where we only had 1-2 wake ups a night and re-settled with a drink and a back rub. Now we're back to square one and she's back in my bed as it's the only way we get any decent sleep. I know I should probably sleep train her but I don't have a clue about that. Hey, it's not forever... right?

@110APiccadilly Pregnant and postnatal women have been absolutely shafted in this pandemic. I'm so sorry this is having the impact it is on your pregnancy and labour options.

WouldBeGood · 25/09/2020 22:21

@DorsetBlueMovie just have some virtual sympathy.. it’s so hard! Get the toddler to sleep and do the Friends Hug and Roll??

WouldBeGood · 25/09/2020 22:23

And I just let mine sleep in when they needed to 🤷🏻‍♀️ Even though I’m no earth mother 😃

DorsetBlueMovie · 25/09/2020 22:24

@WouldBeGood Alas.... I've gotten warm in the bed now, might as well stay. We've been going to bed at 8.30pm most of the week (to bank some sleep before she wakes) so this is a pretty wild late night for me Grin

WouldBeGood · 25/09/2020 22:27

Better just to get some sleep and not worry 😊

110APiccadilly · 25/09/2020 22:38

@DorsetBlueMovie Thanks. I think it's just rubbish for different people in different ways to be honest. I've had moments of being really grateful I'm pregnant rather than trying to look after a child at the moment, if that makes sense. Hope you and your DD get a better night's sleep tonight.

It really isn't forever. It will drop to every so often eventually. And she'll just remember knowing that you were there. You're doing fine Flowers

@DorsetBlueMovie if it makes you feel any better, dd was a terrible sleeper. I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of decent nights sleep I’d had by the time she was 3. Most nights were a game of musical beds and I was convinced this was it for ever ... she’s 18 next week and I’m pleased to report has managed to sleep in her own bed for the last 15 years or so 😉. Keep telling yourself this will pass, because it will ... and until then do whatever you need to do to maximise sleep and ignore anyone who says anything about rods and backs ...

TabbyStar · 26/09/2020 07:46

My DD didn't sleep well until about 2.5. It was fine until XP wanted her out of our bed, then after a period of trying to settle her out of our bed she wouldn't sleep in it either. She's been a great sleeper since though.

I’m doing uni move in day today - not only have I empty nest to deal with have covid in top of it! DS is so looking forward to going, he’s fed up at home , at least it will be a new and different environment for him.

If only vodka and beer offered some sort of protection he’d be fine ! ( he’s packed a rucksack full of booze!) 🙄🙄

DorsetBlueMovie · 26/09/2020 07:57

Thanks ladies, I can joke about it in the daytime but in the middle of the night my resilience is depleted. Thankfully I've taught her to remove DH's watch from its charger and to take it to him as soon as she wakes up - making sure he gets up and takes over so I can have half an hour in bed not being touched - bliss!

Eve · 26/09/2020 07:58

He snuck the dog - who is not allowed upstairs into bed with him last night for a last night together 🙄🙄

CruCru · 26/09/2020 08:14

There’s a nice thing by Matthew Paris in the Times today. He’s written about the difference in approach between here and Sweden.

HereComesYourMam · 26/09/2020 08:21

DorsetBlueMovie I have a top tip for sleeping a bit better with wriggly kids in bed with you - put them on top of the bed under a spare duvet. It really cuts down on the jabbing and poking and duvet stealing.

(I'm sorry - I know this is unsolicited advice and that can be so annoying but it made quite a difference for me so I thought I'd share Smile)

Unsolicited advice welcome over here! DD won't stay under the duvet as she's as hot blooded as DH.... so she removes it for both of us and then lays horizontally with her feet on me Hmm Luckily she's being adorable this morning so her nighttime menacings are forgiven.

Sneaking the dog up is adorable, I don't know how I'd feel if I was off to Uni this year.

HereComesYourMam · 26/09/2020 08:34

Ah yes, the horizontal kicking position... I feel your pain Flowers

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 26/09/2020 08:44

Can I join you? You all seem far more normal than most on here.

We're currently waiting for DDs covid results from a test on Tuesday. We were told we'd have the results that night/next morning. Theres a recorded message if you call the line thats supposed to help if you haven't got results saying they are too busy and no longer looking up results. Helpful. I'm pretty sure its just a cold and regretting doing the right thing and taking her for the test now.

TabbyStar · 26/09/2020 08:52

DD's BF has just gone to uni, her seems to be fine, though his hall has been mentioned in the national press this morning for parties Hmm. I'd imagine it's harder going for the more reserved students. There have been overseas students living there for quite a while in quarantine with trays of food brought to their doors apparently.

WouldBeGood · 26/09/2020 09:09

Welcome, @DisgruntledGuineaPig, it’s a nice place for chat 😊 That sounds most frustrating about the test. They really need to sort this out.

ISaySteadyOn · 26/09/2020 09:26

@DisgruntledGuineaPig, welcome!

DorsetBlueMovie · 26/09/2020 10:07

That reminds me, have hutches to clean today.....

Aww that is so cute. Bless his cotton socks.
Willow2017 · 26/09/2020 10:24

Didn't sleep till 5am! Restless legs kicked in, pins and needles in toes. Did some research and I need to go back to go to be re-referred to neurologist as its getting worse. Fat bloody chance of that even after 2 weeks! Then damm phone went at 9.45 so whoever it was thanks!

Made my list of jobs to do while I was awake so need to crack on with them today.

Good luck to all the kids off to uni hope they get to have a ball one way or another.
DisgruntledGuineaPig hi. Is there a real GP behind your name? Love GPs.

DominaShantotto · 26/09/2020 10:24

Welcome to the new people!

I'm sat binge watching Ghosts for some light relief.
