Black section on MN

PatricksRum · 09/09/2020 03:16

I think it would be great if Mumsnet could make a black parents section/ section for black users.

@Pan2

No it doesn't mean more segregation.

Have a good think for yourself as to why this won't be the case?

Don't speak to me like that and don't tell me what to do! Hmm This is a public forum and I will give my opinion freely.
Pan2 · 10/09/2020 21:42

Well, you weren't expressing an opinion Always, you were asking a question. And I was suggesting a really good way of educating yourself, not telling you what to do.

Google it. We're not here to educate you.

How do I know if the sources are accurate? Could you perhaps paste a couple of links?

You weren't suggesting, you were telling me. How dare you tell me to 'educate myself???' How very dare you? You have zero clue as to my ethnicity
OP posts:
PatricksRum · 10/09/2020 21:46

@Alwaysinpain Why is your ethnicity relevant?

OP posts:
ItsAlwaysSunnyOnMN · 10/09/2020 21:47

Really you don’t feel you are able to search for articles written by black journalists or interviews of black people discussing their experiences of racism

Stop being pathetic you are making yourself look foolish

Pan2 · 10/09/2020 21:47

Well to be fair, I don't know anyone's ethnicity here, (apart from mine) but that's irrelevant. And I don't care what yours is.
You asked about poss segregation, I suggested you have good think about it. That's all.

Alwaysinpain · 10/09/2020 21:50
@Alwaysinpain Why is your ethnicity relevant?
Because I'm being ordered to 'educate myself' by the jumped up poster above. All I did was ask if perhaps a black section of Mumsnet would essentially be a step back in time. Jesus. I thought this was a public forum. Clearly not.

The defensive responses from some on this thread have been nothing short of vicious. Worst I've ever seen

midgebabe · 10/09/2020 21:52

Just read the thread...it goes ( I think several times ) into the difference between segregation and whatbis being proposed , and repeated questions on a well worn topic does look a lot like derailing

Pan2 · 10/09/2020 21:53

I'd repeat, I suggested you do a bit of work yourself Always - we all do that in life about stuff that doesn't immediately impinge on us, but it does on others. If you want to see it as ordering/jumped up/whatever I can't do anything about that.

Lots of resource in these.

Seriously OP? Have you ever been a white person? I dont pretend to understand or know you.

But being a white person myself and having lived in SW London for more than a decade I can assure you white people do experience racism. Perhaps you might get more support if you focus on your original question rather than telling people about what they have or have not experienced.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/09/2020 21:58

Ye great idea, if you what you want is a return to segregationI though inclusion for all was key

Age 34 I became pregnant 3 weeks after coming off the pill. Age 44 I became pregnant 6 weeks after having my coil removed. Should I go and repeatedly post this on the Infertility Topic @Hormonecrazyhell or would that be a dick move in the name of inclusion for all?

It's not racism. It's racial prejudice.

White people make up 59% of London. I'm unsure why you think you're a minority.

I support the idea in general but I’m confused as to why people assume that the posters who don’t are white? Some black people object to all being lumped together as if they all have one mind and one way of thinking and being. It’s OK to say that.

I also think it’s racist and inflammatory and not at all helpful to make sweeping generalisations about white people. I’m BAME (I hate that word too as well as POC) but I have lots of white relatives and friends and I am not OK with anybody making negative assumptions about anybody else based on their skin colour.

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/09/2020 22:21

I don't. I am very aware that non white Mnetters can be just as racist to black people as white folk. That's why I support a separate topic for Black Mnetters that doesn't need to encompass all BAME.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 10/09/2020 22:21

Because I'm being ordered to 'educate myself' by the jumped up poster above.

I've reported so many posters today ... just can't be bothered with Alwaysinpain's meagre effort. But, if you're reading this MNHQ, "jumped up" is another of those phrases I've been explaining to you ...

HeronLanyon · 10/09/2020 22:33

‘Jumped up’ jumped out at me. I couldn’t quite believe it it was so brazen.
The playbook is being well thumbed tonight - trouble is we can see the title.

Pertella · 10/09/2020 22:52

"Nothing short of vicious"

🤣

Floralbean · 10/09/2020 22:53

Not sure why MN bother to let threads like this run and just firefight the inevitable ridiculous comments. It should have been closed when they said they would consider it.

Well, it's really good for people who like spreadsheets ...

(Sadly, I'm too lazy.)

DioneTheDiabolist · 10/09/2020 22:59

I'm sure many Mnetters have updated their spreadsheets on the back of this and the other thread @PersephonePromotesEquanimity.

I know I have.Wink

Evening, everyone. We've had to delete a lot of posts on both this and the Site Stuff thread tonight so we're going to close them both just for a few hours overnight to avoid any trolls or troublemakers having a field day while there are fewer mods about.
