Sigh, I'm not anti mask but really think this is just box ticking. Can't imagine you'll get all the kids wearing them properly without fiddling with and cleaning their hands each time they handle them. Plus what happens if a child turns up without one on a regular basis, who will provide them..... Still might satisfy the school dementors fucking won't though will it

WouldBeGood · 25/08/2020 21:00

On the plus side of school masks, DS hates wearing his tie, but they won’t know who he is.. s1, just started at a 700 pupil school 😃

Willow2017 · 25/08/2020 21:10

Stay drunk avoid hangovers is a good motto
It would look great written in green/ yellow with hazard stripes, pinned to Boris' lectern.
Good idea😄

Oh wait it should be
"Stay drunk and avoid the bullshit coming out of this spineless gobshite."

Of course it won't. They will only stop when we are all sadly dead, & even then they will be complaining that some people aren't dead correctly.

So when do we think masks in schools will be enforced? It's usually 2 weeks after the announcement, to give people time to get ready. By which time the schools will already be back - so what's the point?

If a child refuses to wear one will the parents have to pay a fine? Will schools ask for proof of exemption?

No doubt there will also be some people utterly surprised if there are outbreaks in schools, & calls for headteachers' heads on plates.

Does anyone want to join me in a collective howl of fury about the whole sodding thing? (Bring vodka, or tea if that's more your bag).

TheOrchidKiller · 25/08/2020 21:17

"Spineless gobshite" Grin Or the red one from The Teletubbies.

Replacing the caption below with, "Nicola's jumping off a bridge into the jaws of a hungry tiger, is she? Crikey! We'd better do that too, then!" (Oh we wish...)

Too many already don't have pens on them.

I remember the horror of reading The Handmaid's Tale 20+ years ago and the creeping shift of the rules, the women being sacked, the bank accounts frozen and how simply society could be dismantled. This creep of propaganda (months of set up images of children) and giving in to fearful zealots has too many parallels.

I just hope all this shit gets quietly dropped in the not so distant future.

Oh and just saw a Metro article stating that a study has found that people wearing masks are more comfortable with smaller distances. I couldn't see how to link it though.

Depends what colour his hair is.

Me and my mates were done for sciving out of school 5th form (about 1970).

'Couldn't see you all properly but 1 bright ginger, 2 dark and one fair, we know it was you four' and it was definitely my ginger that confirmed it.

@RealityExistsInTheHumanMind funny!

Fortunately his hair is a completely unremarkable colour 😃

ISaySteadyOn · 25/08/2020 21:45

@BogRollBOGOF, Handmaid's Tale is right. It scares me. The masks scare me most though. Everywhere I go is fraught with an extra frisson of anxiety. My bare face is now a source of suspicion. I hate it.

Pleasedontdothat · 25/08/2020 21:48

Checking in to howl in anguish .... thank fuck DD’s not affected as she’s at an online school anyway (couldn’t cope with mainstream school due to ASD and severe anxiety), but I can’t begin to explain how depressing all those photos of masked girls in school uniform plastered all over the BBC website were ..

You really wouldn’t want to be a member of the cabinet right now would you? Johnson is constantly getting them to do the media rounds staunchly defending a particular position, only for it to be overturned hours later by prime ministerial decree. I’m amazed that the government is showing so little backbone - the impression given by endless U-turns is b of an administration that couldn’t fight its way out of a paper bag ..

DominaShantotto · 25/08/2020 22:00

Well the least dementory outing we have had recently - to a and e tonight cos dd2 has broken her wrist! No hysteria and really quick in and out (under 2 hours including x rays and getting a wrist splint for the cuddly toy as well) because the adult section is empty and their staff are bored so chipping in with the kids!

Supermarketworker06 · 25/08/2020 22:05

@Willow2017

Oh bloody hell there will be panic buying of mouthwash next and shop workers being abused because there's none left!!
Can't wait for that to happen- not! Bloody hell, it was bad enough last time round when there was panic buying. I'm working tomorrow, I'll check on the mouthwash issue and report back.
DominaShantotto · 25/08/2020 22:06

Incidentally she didn’t injure herself doing anything reckless to hurt the nhs like the plonkers on here were kicking off about - no horse riding, driving a car, going outside twice a day- she’s slipped off the bottom step in the house and landed badly!

Stay at home and stay safe kids!

Willow2017 · 25/08/2020 22:12

Stay at home and stay safe kids!
How utterly unreasonable of her. How will they complain about her wasting precious nhs resources now?

🤣

Hope she is feelng ok and her and cuddly are better soon.

justasking111 · 25/08/2020 22:16

Fuckity fuck our empty hospital which will not acknowledge all the operations, clinics etc. cancelled have put up this dementory video via the BBC. Listen and weep...

justasking111 · 25/08/2020 22:17

@Supermarketworker06 keep an eye on the vodka stocks too.

ISaySteadyOn · 25/08/2020 22:25

Willow2017 · 25/08/2020 22:26

Well they need something to occupy them all when they arent actually functioning as a general hospital!

Dollybagwash · 25/08/2020 22:48

@DominaShantotto sorry about your dd. I fly out tomorrow and I have done nothing but pack my case. I keep thinking they will cancel

Least dementory but 'cashing in' on the Covid crisis.

All the people that would normally be in A&E
1 A small but significant number dying at home because Covid rather than legitimately attending
2 A reasonable number that should be there but will manage somehow without] because Covid
3 A large % that aren't there because they have decided that their emergency isn't actually emergency and their inflated view of the danger of catch CV in casualty is greater than their inflated view of their minor issue that could be dealt with at home, by a pharmacy or by their GP

OP posts:
RealityExistsInTheHumanMind · 25/08/2020 23:06

Sorry, that sounds like a criticism that isn't meant.

I mean - using A&E for what it is meant to be used for rather than the non Covid non emergencies that normally clog up A&E aren't currently clogging it up - which is to your advantage with a genuine A&E accident.

Oh the irony.

I hope she's OK though.

DS's classmate came back last summer with a matching pair of pots after a monkey bar incident.
I wonder if they made it on holiday this year as they had to defer it from last year as he'd only just done it.

When I was buying DS's presents on 16th March, the girl in build-a-bear was worrying about making it on their holiday in May, it was supposed to be their first one abroad, and they'd already been tangled up with Thomas Cook last year.

I know holidays have only been around for the masses since the railways, but befire that there was always some kind of feast day/ celebration coming up on the horizon. Love it or loathe it, a church based society added that kind of annual structure too. Humans don't naturally exist without events to look forwards to (apart from Cromwell). Most societies have birth/ coming of age/ marriage/ death rites in common.

Iamalltheyhavenow · 25/08/2020 23:46

Long time lurker, but my first post. The masks in schools nonsense is threatening to tip me over an edge I have been very close to for weeks. On a brighter note, I spotted this on Sky News, in an article about schools and masks:

“However, the prime minister faces resistance to the move from within his own ranks, with Tory MP Marcus Fysh voicing his oppostion after it emerged the U-turn may be imminent.
“Masks should be banned in schools," he said on Twitter.
"The country should be getting back to normal not pandering to this scientifically illiterate guff." “

Took the words right out of my mouth Marcus....scientific illiterate guff it certainly is.

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 26/08/2020 06:53

@helenadove I’m sure you’ve already tried it - but I saw an African soap “dudo osun” recommended on a soap thread once and it’s a miracle worker. Anti-fungal and anti-bacterial and you feel genuinely “clean” after.

There’s always a downside of course - it’s browny-black so you end up with what looks like poo-streaks as it drips from the tray to the bath.

So when you have visitors in you need to shout ITS NOT POO! 😂

I’m a soap rather than shower gel person anyway - and I like the nice Italian ones from to maxi, but if I’m hot, sweaty or just feeling mucky it’s the black soap for me.

Works on my minging kids too. 😂

InsaneInTheViralMembrane · 26/08/2020 06:57

Politics is an interesting game right now. I’ve always felt it was about sticking your head above the parapet to make the hard choices for the general benefit of the country/people rather than one group - and photo ops.

Wonder how many PPE’s are cautiously retreating- or whether they’re still looking for willy-waving.

My kids are back here in Scotland and one has sniffles. I’ve kept him home and phoned school who were surprisingly non-D and accepting of the fact our vectors get non-covid germs too.

I’m fed up. Having managed for cash since March with virtually nothing coming in - down the sides of the sofa are finally bare. Harrumph.
