For some reason i struggled even more than usual with mask wearing today

Was pleased to see Tesco already putting out Christmas gift sets though. Can do everything in one place. Im not going to be trailing all over the high street Christmas shopping in a mask. Still feels way too early though.

I once taught in a block with no fire alarm system! It had been destroyed in the fire the previous term along with the adjoining sixth form block. The plan was that if the bells went off, a member of SMT would have to stand at the bottom of the (only) stairs with a wind up klaxxon. We would then have to trek to the far side of the school, the long way round to avoid the charred ruins of the sixth form block.

Pah to a pesky virus. I did well to survive 2 NQT terms in that establishment!

My plan is to be over the top non dementoriy at drop off. Lots of smiles and checking everyone is in a good place, jokes about not hugging, and arranging playdates. I can tell DD is excited as she showered and laid clothes out without having to be asked. She chose a yellow T shirt (no uniform) at her school) so I think she wants to spread happiness too.

My kids primary school has only had a fire alarm system for the last 12 months. Before that it was a bell that someone stood and rang loudly. It was only when requirements for a two tone alarm (so one sound for fire and one for lockdown) came in that they had one put in.

Basically they did a few proper scenarios. First one they burnt a whole class to death as they didn't hear it, and second one the office staff perished.

@LivinLaVidaLoki 😂 at rabbits. That about sums it up! “Don’t lick the grubby kids”.

@NothingIsWrong I must be twisted because that sort of thing always makes me howl. It’s like if Clark W Griswald were in charge of H&S.

NothingIsWrong · 03/09/2020 08:12

Luckily our academy trust paid for it. And it's completely wireless, so now we are building an extra classroom, it's dead easy to extend

Morning, best of luck all those with school starters. Just sent off my new year 7 for the first time to secondary, bless him he's been awake in the night and up early today, mainly excited though!

They are doing just year 7s today like the induction day they missed in the Spring, with everyone else tomorrow...Eldest (GCSE year) has online learning today just for the one day.

I think the BBC might be getting more positive?

Good luck all little ADs off to school!

@Pixel7777 good news all round!

KnobChops · 03/09/2020 08:33

DD (year 11) practically ran to school today, never seen her so excited to be finishing school holidays! She’s been meeting her friends and going out but it’s been a long 5.5 months, especially the lonely virtual learning with her dad and me both working out of the home the whole time.

Willow2017 · 03/09/2020 08:47

Small frog has had a baby! (Well you know what I mean) moved the bin to put it out this morning and tiny frog hopping about! They must like the dark and damp under there! Will try fir a photo later but its the same coliyr as the wet leaves!

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 03/09/2020 09:09

My DD practically skipped through the school gate this morning! They all looked really happy to be back.

Blobby10 · 03/09/2020 09:14

Thank you to everyone posting such happy reports about happy children going back to school!! Round here they've been back in dribs and drabs for a week with next Monday being the day when Everyone Goes In!! I've chuckled at the total lack of social distancing by maskless students as they walk home - bless their little hearts! Grin

Headline on yesterday’s Evening Standard is about the tube being deserted, and tfl needing Boris to reassure the public that it’s safe. Tube deserted: Duh. Project Fear, innit? Even the magic muzzles are not making people feel safe.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 03/09/2020 09:46

My Y7 is only one back today - we had a very last minute argument about coats the school started being really strict and her new was was too thick and one she wanted had patterns all over.

DS gave her his light black one - and then she was gone in a foul mood and slightly late Hmm.

Have got DS into dentist this week - I'm think they may be back to more normal working I'll have to ask about more routine checkups.

Dd1 first day at school today and dd2 first morning at nursery
It was wonderful
Dd2 strangely is the one who is more effected - she has been babbling happily non stop all day since she got back (she's almost 3). She's a social child, she loved the other kids and all the new toys and all of it. Dd1 also excitedly put her clothes out - no uniform at her school either

Now I just need to pack dementor husband off to work at least a couple of days a week and then I can have my home to myself finally. He won't go though. He's staying at home creating mess and being grumpy and "tired"

Somebody posted on the rules thread that it's like small man syndrome has taken over in this surreal world. The gatekeeper at the school was being such a sh1t, telling me off for leaving late (settling Dd2) and not letting me in to give her wellies. Meh. They are keeping all the kids in till 4pm to avoid opening the gates more than once (which means the nursery and reception kids are having very long days). They used to keep the reception kids with elder siblings till 4pm anyway, but the others used to leave at 3pm. There is no sense in it.
