Thanks I will try the fairy liquid first and if that fails the coke. Was meat to be homemade soup for my lunch.

DominaShantotto · 02/09/2020 17:37

DD2's quite anxious about tomorrow - we had a long chat today - she thinks she's going to miss me, and she's worried her teacher won't know her letters go a bit wrong. Poor kiddo having to do what (however MN minimise it) is a huge thing aged 7 and go from a really small nurturing infants (till Covid hit) to what must seem a huge junior school with no transition in the middle of this. That's before you factor in SEN.

Bio washing powder is great. Deals with the burned on bits on the horrid huge pans when catering for a pack of ravenous Brownies on camp.

I hope she settles quickly. Flowers

DS2 is fortunate that he just moves along the corridor within a combined school so it's not vastly different other than using the juniors doors off the same playground.

Hopefully there shouldn't be issues with DS1 lugging his laptop in and out everyday. His pencil case with his favoured type of pencils/ crayons can stay in (I've put them into clear, boring exam style ones to avoid jealousy compared to using his usual nice one). Normally his laptop can stay in, but if there is any expectation of home learning at a moment's notice, he needs the computer and tinted glasses (for reading stress) to go back and forth with him.
Nothing from the SENCO in months, and nothing personal. Our last one was crap, hopefully the next one will be better. His consultant that diagnosed rang up last Friday and she'll send a letter into school to give them a kick up the backside as between diagnosis of ASD in December and March, nothing has been mentioned. He already was on the SEN register for the dyslexia/ dyspraxia prior to that.

On a serious note though, I think we should all give ourselves a virtual pat on the back. After all the ups and downs and stress, the children are, in one way or another in some shape, going to school. In September.

The dementors have, since February gleefully predicted that the children will be off until at least January, maybe next spring.

They have kicked and screamed and shouted that it won't happen this side of Christmas. But here we are. I feel like we made it.

I know that probably sounds like rambling nonsense....

Willow2017 · 02/09/2020 18:37

I don't think that the students have to wear the masks all day. I think it's just in corridors when moving between lessons. So just 5 or 10 mins at a time

Many schools are ignoring this and enforcing masks all day in and outside classrooms.

Not nonsense, I'm with you on this - pats in backs all round.

We're going to need a new thread title soon, maybe something about ADs go back to school?

Pixel7777 · 02/09/2020 18:42

Thanks, PALs is a good idea, but they are picking him up now (FIL) seems strange, need to wait in the car park till he gets wheeled out. I've ben reading they are still sending the oldies home with not much treatment, although our hospital has always been pretty bad for doing this in the past. Used to put it down to being so busy, but it's not now.

The GP was confused as well as they had no info either just that he'd been admitted. He's got a long term serious lung condition. Not covid though so guess it doesn't count. Hmm

Yes sorting the last of school stuff here for tomorrow. Think we do all deserve a medal!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/09/2020 18:42

"Looks like we made it: ADs go back to school" ?

"ADs do the school run again, do do do-do" ?

Ibake · 02/09/2020 18:45

@LivinLaVidaLoki love that!

And yes, you made it! All your kids are going back. It's the first hurdle over and the D's will keep going but they've lost this first significant battle.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 02/09/2020 18:56

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito I've got that song stuck in my head now....
"Looks like we made iiitttt"

BogRollBOGOF · 02/09/2020 18:58

Is it OK to drop DS2 off 14 hours early? He's gone into whingebag mode Grin

Willow2017 · 02/09/2020 18:59

Domina Hope she settles quickly and enjoys it.

Pixel fingers crossed your fil get the support he needs. The hosp was crap with my dad, absolutely ruined his quality of life and he spent the rest of his time in a nursing home not being cared for properly! 😠

LivinLaVidaLoki · 02/09/2020 19:25

9 yo DS just said to me "when I go to school in the morning, I think it'll feel a lot like the end of avengers endgame when spiderman goes back to school and sees all his friends who also disappeared when Thanos clicked his fingers"

Ibake · 02/09/2020 19:36

@LivinLaVidaLoki that's adorable, and very evocative, I know exactly what he means. Bless him.

amicissimma · 02/09/2020 19:41

I'm no apologist for HMG, but I really think with the return to school regulations they were damned if they did and damned if they didn't. So I have a certain amount of sympathy for them having areas where they just said 'Oh, do what you think best'. At least that absolves them from blame for not taking into account local conditions.

I think Jeremy Hunt might feel the same.

TheOrchidKiller · 02/09/2020 20:06

@livingthevidaloki
Love those rabbits!

Well, the masks I ordered for DS haven't arrived, so he'll have to wear the unwashed one from the laundry bag.

He has forgotten about school tomorrow and nipped off to ASDA with his sister to buy last minute pens that actually work. (This forward planning bodes so well for the year ahead).

A huge pat on the back to everyone. And if you're doing the school run tomorrow (not me, thankfully), remember, blinkers on, don't let the dementors grind you down at the gates.

Now we need to campaign to get toddler groups going. Toddler groups in pubs, would that be possible?

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 02/09/2020 20:08

I dunno, but I like the idea!

As the weather in Glasgow continues to be shite and now we can’t do playdates in houses, this is worth serious consideration.

I live in East Yorks & have just heard that a school in Bridlington is enforcing masks-at-all-times, despite the fact you'd probably have to drive a good hour from Brid to find a confirmed Coronavirus case right now

Power corrupting seems to have happened to some HTs too. I suspect most are more scared of not being seen to do enough though. There needs to be a lot more news put out there about the dangers of masks. Not just in increasing infections but increasing bullying, hiding bad behaviour and just unenforceability - especially after the novelty has worn off.

I don't know if it's just wishful thinking to predict it will be quickly dropped/forgotten once the term gets going.

Just read on FB that a secondary school locally will not now be open tomorrow. Year 7 were due in but they have discovered a problem with the fire alarms. Those poor kids 8pm they put the notice out.

Urgent notice
It is with regret that * have to announce that they will be closed to Year 7 learners tomorrow on what would have been their first day.
The reason for this decision is the fact that we have technical issues with our fire alarm systems which cannot be fixed before tomorrow.
We are now looking forward to welcoming year 7, along with years 12 and 13, back to school on Friday when the issues have been resolved.
We thank you very for your understanding in what has been a difficult decision, but the safety of our learners and staff is paramount.
Please pass this message on to as many parents as possible so that we don’t have learners arrive at school.
Kind regards and stay safe
