Bagpuss, Mr Benn or the Mister Men - which preschool TV programme did you like the best ?

For me it it's the Mister Men with Arthur Lowe telling the stories. We had most of the books at home (as well as the John Mouse and Roundy and Squary books) so that helped. I liked the music in Mr Benn but I always ended up watching either the cowboy or the hot-air balloon - never the knight! Bagpuss, on reflection, was rather quaint but had a sweet side. I couldn't stand Madeleine, the bossy smartarse rag doll.

Never cared for The Flumps or Pigeon Street.

Remember handful of songs, crown court and pebble mill at one? I used to go home for lunch.

CokeEnStock · 27/07/2020 20:26

Mary Mungo And Midge.

SerenityNowwwww · 27/07/2020 20:27

Never liked the flumps - manky little balls of belly button fluff with pipe cleaner limbs.

Liked pogles wood, the clangers, crystal tools & alistair, Noah and nelly, willo the wisp.

Never liked the mice in the mouse organ (animals dressed as people creeps me out).

Bagpuss definitely.

Loved the Flumps. I particularly loved waving back at them at the end.

Camberwick Green and Trumpton were great too.

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/07/2020 20:29

Mary, Mungo and Midge. Also Crystaltips and Alastair.

I was surprised to learn that there were only 14 episodes of Mr. Benn made. Maybe my parents felt the same about seeing the same episodes over and over again as I did about the original Teletubbies.

weegiemum · 27/07/2020 20:32

Bagpuss.

I also liked Andy Pandy and the Chigley/ICamberwwick Green/Trumpton programmes.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 27/07/2020 20:34

I loved Bagpuss. Also liked Pipkins with Hartley Hare, Hector's House and The Herbs (liked Parsley the lion). Always hated Rainbow though!

vampirethriller · 27/07/2020 20:36

Bertha, Pigeon Street, Greenclaws. And Trapdoor!

Devlesko · 27/07/2020 20:39

I liked Hectors House, Mr Benn, Camberwick Green.

kenandbarbie · 27/07/2020 20:43

Bagpuss although I probably liked the plot in mr Ben better

WildRosie · 27/07/2020 20:45

A few of the BBC preschool programmes were European imports, or at least based on their TV. Barbapapa was French. I think
Hector's House was French as well. Barnaby was either Dutch or Belgian.

The dulcet tones of Richard Baker and Isabel Ryan made Mary, Mungo and Midge very English! They lived in a town, you know.

Let’s Pretend-I really remember this!

missyB1 · 27/07/2020 20:49

Trumpton
Camberwick Green
Playschool
Parsley the Lion and the herbs
Hectors House
Pipkins with Hartley Hare

Reallybadidea · 27/07/2020 20:51

I really loved Round The Twist I have the early 90s. Also this thing about a blended family that lived in a massive house called Just Us. I was sad they only made a couple of series iirc.

Covidiot · 27/07/2020 20:53

OMG the excitement of WHICH MR MAN WILL BE ON TODAY.?? As the scrolled through the different ones (I think the screen was split into four?)

Loved them.

Loved Bod too.

And Paddington.

Didn’t like Ivor the engine. Boring.

SerenityNowwwww · 27/07/2020 20:53

I thought babapapa was Italian. Babar was french.

Anyone remember Ludwig? Bloody weird. I remember they would show Eastern European cartoons (was it an awards thing?) that were just bizarre. Ditto Heidi etc.

SerenityNowwwww · 27/07/2020 20:55

Danger Mouse! I showed a load of these to ds when he was little and he loved them.

My niece loved button moon.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/07/2020 20:56

Bod, featuring Alberto & his Animal Band. Which milkshake was he going to choose? "I think I'll haaaaaaaaave....... (dramatic pause whilst all the animals have a guess)....chocolate!"
"The tigers were right. Were you?"

Ivor the Engine was very comforting. Loved the dragons that lived in the fire.

Pipkins - I liked Hartley Hare but having seen footage of the flea-bitten old bunny in recent years, I don't know why!

I liked The Mister Men & Mr.Benn. Bagpuss was boring. Madelaine & her banjo just irritated me.

homemadecommunistrussia · 27/07/2020 20:57

Bagpuss from those three, but I loved the Flumps!

RustyBear · 27/07/2020 20:57

The Woodentops and Rag, Tag and Bobtail. And Tales of the Riverbank.

TheOrchidKiller · 27/07/2020 20:59

@SerenityNowwwww yes, I do remember Ludwig, quite liked it! Was it on in the 5 minutes between the end of kids' telly & the News?

There was a cartoon called Noah & Nelly on at that time. Not particularly for pre-schoolers but we watched that. Nelly always knitted them out of trouble. "All aboard The Skylark!"

MyfanwyMontez · 27/07/2020 21:00

Will O The Wisp- Evil Edna, Mavis the Fairy.
Magic Roundabout
The Wombles
Chorlton and The Wheelies

Dogsaresomucheasier · 27/07/2020 21:03

Bod and Bagpuss for me!

SabrinaThwaite · 27/07/2020 21:04

Noggin The Nog.
Rhubarb and Custard.
Trumpton and Camberwick Green.

With my own DCs, 64 Zoo Lane was a favourite.

Devlesko · 27/07/2020 21:05

Here you go, have a look at this lot.
