Bagpuss, Mr Benn or the Mister Men - which preschool TV programme did you like the best ?

For me it it's the Mister Men with Arthur Lowe telling the stories. We had most of the books at home (as well as the John Mouse and Roundy and Squary books) so that helped. I liked the music in Mr Benn but I always ended up watching either the cowboy or the hot-air balloon - never the knight! Bagpuss, on reflection, was rather quaint but had a sweet side. I couldn't stand Madeleine, the bossy smartarse rag doll.

Never cared for The Flumps or Pigeon Street.

I liked a lot of the previous programmes listed, but does anyone else remember Fingerbobs? A bloke with blonde hair, making all the characters out of finger puppets. I remember a seagull and prawns. Think he might have been Scandinavian.

Bluewavescrashing · 28/07/2020 21:16

Greenclaws and Bagpuss.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/07/2020 21:18

I loved Fingeebobs @DannyGlickWindowTapping. So simple but so charming.

Sorry, Fingerbobs.

Bluewavescrashing · 28/07/2020 21:20

The Raccoons 😊

Oblomov20 · 28/07/2020 21:31

Thanks for the link.
I'd forgotten about monkey and Hong Kong fuey.

drigon · 28/07/2020 21:44

Not a massive Mr Men fan, but did love Fingerbobs, Ivor the Engine and Pipkins. Also liked the madness that was the Banana Spilts and also The Monkees.

drigon · 28/07/2020 21:47

The guy in Fingerbobs was called Yofi/ Yofee and he was American. We have the DVD from around 15 years ago when my son was small and I occasionally watch it as comfort/ nostalgia telly. He was very laid-back!

IAintentDead · 28/07/2020 21:52

@RustyBear

The Woodentops and Rag, Tag and Bobtail. And Tales of the Riverbank.

FawnDrench · 28/07/2020 21:56

Showing my age here -
Romper Room
Crystal Tipps and Alistair
Herge's adventures of Tintin
Magic Roundabout
The Wombles

and I also loved Black Beauty, adventures of Lassie and Robinson Crusoe - I can still remember its haunting theme tune.
And I will never forget the Singing, ringing tree - scary as hell.

MuttleysSnigger · 28/07/2020 22:01

Black Beauty! Yes, how could I forget that one, I loved it. I had the Black Beauty LP of stories and repeatedly played the first track, the them tune over and over. I also have DVD, real comfort TV.

KittCat · 28/07/2020 22:07

Mary Mungo and Midge
The Clangers (which I've got on DVD!)

TheOrchidKiller · 28/07/2020 22:20

I'd forgotten about monkey and Hong Kong fuey.

So it was Monkey on that link! Couldn't get it to work, but I thought it was that. DB loved Pigsy.

Loved Henry the personal assistant on Hong Kong Phooey.

SabrinaThwaite · 28/07/2020 22:42

I remember the Singing Ringing Tree (definitely not a pre school programme) - with the creepy bear. No wonder we thought East Germany was a scary place during the Cold War.

Bloodylovecheese · 28/07/2020 22:51

Mr Benn, Pippins and Bod

Manolin · 28/07/2020 23:04

@BwanaMakubwa

Yes I remember that too! Do you also remember Belle & Sebastian?

Manolin · 28/07/2020 23:08

Does anyone remember this :

Kids in a house next to the sea. A lighthouse nearby. Large boulders would gradually move towards the house. The light from the lighthouse would stop their movements. They got closer and closer. It was a dark and fearful programme for kids. A bit like The Midwich Cuckkoos.

Smokeybacon72 · 28/07/2020 23:14

Pipkins was my favourite, got a DVD recently to rewatch and it as brilliant as I remember

BwanaMakubwa · 28/07/2020 23:31

@Manolin

No I don't remember Belle and Sebastien.

So nice to find a couple of others who remember Lapland and the OyLaLoy song :)

Gingaaarghpussy · 28/07/2020 23:41

what depresses me is, I recognise a lot of programmes mentioned but don't really remember watching them. I can remember sitting in our front room listening to radio 2 while eating my lunch. I recognise pipkin, the flumps, the clangers, bagpuss, bod and Mr benn. The magic roundabout was on channel 4 when I watched it, I was in my teens.
If I'm weird enough I can sing the rainbow song, up above the streets and houses....

Shizzlestix · 29/07/2020 00:34

Clangers, I even have a Clanger toy which drives the dog nuts!

whathaveijustseen · 29/07/2020 00:57

Mr Ben, the Wombles and Ivor the Steam Engine, the little red dragon was my favourite character

Thighdentitycrisis · 29/07/2020 01:05

Lots of the above, also remember Lamb Chop
And I loved the fox puppet Boom Boom!!

AdaColeman · 29/07/2020 01:18

Fingerbobs was strange, with a very glum presenter, (Rick Jones?) who didn’t seem to really engage with anything. The seagull was the weirdest part. Looking back, it was sort of lessons in existentialism for four year olds.
Not nearly as much fun as The Clangers with the Soup Dragon!

AhBallix · 29/07/2020 01:26

Jamie and the Magic Torch

Issi Noho
