We're getting a take out tonight and I want to try new things. I've being trying to branch out from my regulars;
Crispy chilli beef
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Lamb in black bean sauce
Chow mein
Prawn roast

I know it's standard but it never fails. What else are your secret top dishes?

Ah. Adding libel to your talents now. I hope you have a good solicitor.

Sarahandco · 25/07/2020 19:10

King prawn foo yung

Passmethecrisps · 25/07/2020 19:12

He would be outraged at that ihavebrillohair!! That would be like ordering the chicken Maryland in an Indian restaurant. I actually think it’s a bit in his head.

Bowerbird Are you sure it wasn't Anise Pork? Plenty of recipes online.

I make my ribs in a similar brew, I make a stock by boiling ginger, garlic, soy, star anise, black cardamon, fennel, sichuan pepper, cinnamon, cloves for an hour. Then boil the ribs for 20 mins and leave them to marinate as long as possible. Then I drain them, fry them to brown them and then cook them in a sauce made of sugar soy and some of the stock, a bit of a fuss but so worth it.....

Passmethecrisps · 25/07/2020 19:14

I have just looked at that Chinese food website and frankly it looks delicious. And search as I may I could not find any bats or pangolins! Astonishingly enough. Stop acting the fanny

BestIsWest · 25/07/2020 19:16

Crispy lamb in lettuce. Not had that for years. Mmmm. Not seen it on a menu for about 20 years come to that.

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 25/07/2020 19:17

@amitoooldforthisshit So you honestly think it is cheaper for them to import meat from China than by from European sources?! You are racist, pure and simple.

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 25/07/2020 19:17

*buy

goingoverground · 25/07/2020 19:22

@amitoooldforthisshit Waitrose stock WingYip products. Go and educate your racist mind.

Another vote for smoked shredded chicken here.

CormoranStrike · 25/07/2020 19:24

Salt and chilli squid or salt and chilli chicken

meow1989 · 25/07/2020 19:27

Twa smoked chicken! Sweet and salty little batteres chicken bits.

midsomermurderess · 25/07/2020 19:29

Marmunia exactly. Who thinks banana fritters are a hidden gem?

Whoknowswhatsgoingon · 25/07/2020 19:31

Sea spiced aubergine

Soft shell crabs

I do love the occasional banana fritter 🙈

Emilyontmoor · 25/07/2020 19:38

Passme I am sure Chinese restaurants do shop at Wing Yip, Hoo Hing and other big Chinese supermarkets that do wholesale and delivery. For the same reason as I go to shop there, because they have a wider range and better quality ingredients for Chinese cooking Hmm Never seen a cat or pangolin there either.

I do think the CCP should be held to account for failing to regulate the wet markets especially after SARS had already highlighted the dangers but it has diddley squat to do with the Chinese community in the UK, and only a full on ignorant racist would make that jump

hatesomethinchangesomethin · 25/07/2020 20:02

Wow this thread escalated quickly..

Passmethecrisps · 25/07/2020 20:03

Oh no! You have misunderstood me emily!! I was being utterly sarcastic in relation to a previous poster using this website as an example justifying her hideous racism. Sorry - I defo wasn’t being serious

Ohsuchaperfectday · 25/07/2020 20:25

Chinese chefs chicken.
I've only ever seen it in 1 restaurant. Chicken with some sort of batter, and white wine and spring onion source.

If anyone has heard of it or knows it. How do you make it!

Yy to batter apple and banana..

Ohsuchaperfectday · 25/07/2020 20:25

PS why don't Chinese take away do dim sum?

Has China town opened yet in London?

Candyflosscookie · 25/07/2020 20:35

Just coming on to add another vote for basically anything done salt and pepper/chilli. Addicted since I discovered it!

delilahbucket · 25/07/2020 20:53

I love foo yung with chips and curry sauce. Also salt and pepper wings, although we learned to make our own while our takeaway was shut in lock down - recipe here kirbiecravings.com/salt-and-pepper-wings/
Kung po is a good one to try.

IHaveBrilloHair · 25/07/2020 21:04

HappyAsASandboy · 25/07/2020 21:23

Deep fried chicken with baked salt and chilli

darktriad · 25/07/2020 22:05

That seafood restaurant in Hong Kong looks amazing, I love salt n pepper squid! It's OK in my local Chinese, but the best I had was in Malaysia.

Emilyontmoor · 25/07/2020 22:25

Passme totally got that!

Leflic · 25/07/2020 22:28
@Leflic DH has just told me that lamb is very popular in northern China especially when braised with chillis and dried bean curd.
