We're getting a take out tonight and I want to try new things. I've being trying to branch out from my regulars;
Crispy chilli beef
Sweet and sour chicken balls
Lamb in black bean sauce
Chow mein
Prawn roast

I know it's standard but it never fails. What else are your secret top dishes?

Interesting fact - mention Singapore noodles to a singaporean and they have absolutely no idea what you’re talking about.

@MistyMinge2

Wish I'd seen this thread 20 minutes ago. Just ordered a Chinese and could do with trying some new stuff. My old faves are, singapore rice vermicelli, Beef in black bean sauce, lemon chicken, crispy seaweed, szechuan spiced duck.

Also baffled by lamb. I've never ever seen it on a Chinese menu.

Our local Chinese does crispy lamb pancakes, they are so good, and a nice change from duck.

Have you tried aubergine with sea spicy sauce OP? it's delicious :)

MintyCedric · 25/07/2020 18:04

My go to is Singapore noodles with chicken satay on skewers and peanut sauce. Sometimes lamb with ginger and spring onions.

DD usually has crispy lemon chicken and egg fried rice.

speakout · 25/07/2020 18:07

Tofu and green pepper in black bean sauce.

when I read your title, I initially thought you had found 'hidden gems' in your food Blush

I love salt and pepper anything. But also prawn toast and roast duck.

MummyMcMumington · 25/07/2020 18:09

Salt and chilli king prawns
Chicken and cashew nuts 😋

EvilPea · 25/07/2020 18:12

There was one Chinese near where I grew up that did something called butter chicken.
It was like this dark red/ brown sticky bbqy (but not really) sauce. It was beautiful.
I still crave it, but I’ve never seen it since.

I ate Singapore fried noodles every day when I was in Singapore and that's what they were called on the menus. I think they did originate in Hong Kong though

I really want a chinese takeaway now. Salt and pepper sui mai, duck pancakes and beef in chilli and black bean sauce

JellyFishSquish · 25/07/2020 18:13

This has reminded me of my fave-- hot and sour pork and pickled vegetable soup. Fantastic. Sigh. It was a dish from a place we went to regularly, some twenty years ago in another country. But OMG it was good.

I missed fried dumplings so much I made them myself. Maybe I should do that with my hot and sour soup. Thanks for inspiring me, OP!

@amitoooldforthisshit pure racism. Your comment is disgusting.

Letsleepingdogslie8 · 25/07/2020 18:18

@amitoooldforthisshit Yes, my Chinese DH is currently in the kitchen rustling up a nice bat. Angry

iklboo · 25/07/2020 18:18

@amitoooldforthisshit probably has their Chinese takeaway delivered in tin foil. You don't honestly believe all Chinese takeaways in the UK import all their ingredients from China? Racist much?

JoeCalFuckingZaghe · 25/07/2020 18:19

You could salt and chill a piece of cardboard and it would taste delicious! Anything salt and chilli gets my vote.

Crispy Seaweed goes with anything too if you’ve never had it.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 25/07/2020 18:21

chicken and cashew nuts
