On the positive side, teachers gift is over £140 this year. Must be appreciated I guess.

Mascotte · 13/07/2020 20:27

I think we are all doomed. The dementors are winning. They've achieved a totally shit existence for everyone and looks like it's here to stay.

I can't work out what to do for our teachers - we're skint anyway, but the class teacher's gone above and beyond trying to help DD2 in this shitfest.

Normally I'd send a huge pile of Krispy Kreme in for the staff - but with how skitty the head is at the moment (reading books have to do a 72 hours quarantine when they've been home) I'm not sure. Someone mentioned it in governors just now and I commented I'd normally have sent in cake but I wasn't sure if it was going to have to do 3 days in time-out and the staff on the call pissed themselves laughing at cake surviving 72 seconds in that place!

AnxiousElephant

I now have Jason singing Too Many Broken Hearts in my head Grin

agree with whoever said about everything feeling so flat. It’s shit, it’s totally never ending.

Absolutely. With teenage dramas on top here tonight. Just want to go to bed & hide.

Bastards have even managed to fuck up yhe weather. It’s pissing down and we have the heating on. My calendar says July but it’s lying.
Mascotte · 13/07/2020 20:38

Heating on here too 😢

Pianostrings · 13/07/2020 20:38

Hello, I've been lurking for several threads and feeling so grateful for the sense on here.

I know the misery is relentless but just bear in mind the people panicking on here are one vocal group of people. I think there are probably a lot of them but there are lots of people who feel differently too and who are getting on with things (and as a result have less time to post on here)

I'm currently sitting in a hotel in Cornwall having booked a last minute trip here. The staff are all upbeat and relishing working and the locals have been friendly with lots of things feeling open and welcoming. There have been a good number of other holidaymakers around hiking and swimming. The cafes had full tables for lunch each day although it's definitely not a full resort. Ice creams were on sale over the weekend, people were waterskiing and paying to go out fishing and hiring boats and paddle boarding.

And I've seen a massive shift here on other threads in terms of the numbers of people saying they want to get back to business, get back to school etc.

It is shit, we have a long way to go but the last few days have felt more normal and more fun than I thought they would. The pandemic feels suddenly so distant for being in a hotel despite the hand sanitiser everywhere and the news headlines. Get yourselves to one if you can manage it with your own circumstances. It is the best tonic. I am going to book another weekend away very soon. There's lots of deals to be had.

DominaShantotto · 13/07/2020 20:39

Yeah sorry, the weather's my fault. We ordered an air con for the bedroom in the middle of the nice weather and Hermes "lost" it - it finally rematerialised (well the replacement did) this weekend so it's going to piss down to Noah levels from now on.

Sorry - I jinxed summer.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 20:44

We have these keen parents who set up a sort of contribution site and everyone chips in each year for the teachers gift so it adds up I guess. makes it easier in a way. So a fiver each can add up. Feel weird the end of last child at primary during the general strangeness.

Usually the parents bring wine and all have a kind of picnic party after school on the last day. But we have been told not to gather so won't be doing that this time.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 20:44

(by the school I mean)

IAintentDead · 13/07/2020 20:51

@Orangeblossom78

My good friend works for DEFRA too and thinks the whole thing is overhyped. Sorry sounds a bit like those 'I know someone who' posts
The other DEFRA post was talking about a Corvid apocalypse as they wave goodbye in the autumn for their non migration.

@LivinLaVidaLoki

So I'm in a queue for tui to change my holiday. Been in for over 2 hours but the office is now closed. Do they stay to clear all the calls in the queue or will I be here all night?
Thats shit. I have been catching up on the thread and was hoping you'd got to resolve your holiday. I'm certainly on team one of us needs to escape the UK.

Think it's closer to ALL of us need at least a break from the UK.

It's easier to ignore other countries' dementoring. It's like other people's kids. You might not like their behaviour but you don't have the emotional involvement as to it mattering.

BakewellTarts · 13/07/2020 21:14

I agree. Lovely colleague has made it to Poland walking in the Tatra mountains. It looks amazing and apart from the flights no issues with social distancing.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 21:25

I think they are sending DEFRA and other cival service back to the office may explain the dementoring. They are told to follow government guidance. Laura K on BBC saying announcement on masks tomorrow. Hmm

AnxiousElephant77 · 13/07/2020 21:29

I’m going to Majorca on 15th August. Then dd goes to Spain with her friend’s family on 21st.

Apparently. We’ll see.

PickAChew · 13/07/2020 21:31

@InsaneInTheViralMembrane

Just been chatting with a friend high up in DEFRA, word is they’re planning for second wave corvid October time.
We get a fresh corvid wave every evening, around sunset, when 100 or so Jackdaws gather together and head to their roosts :o
Mascotte · 13/07/2020 21:32

I'm not sure I can be bothered to go anywhere to be honest.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/07/2020 21:33

@Mascotte

I'm not sure I can be bothered to go anywhere to be honest.
Me either. All just so much hassle. We’re going to Devon in August but literally a lodge with a hot tub in the middle of nowhere. Won’t have to wear a mask there.
BakewellTarts · 13/07/2020 21:34

Down day today second kids holiday camp cancelled!

Also blooming masks I'm convinced its just to build confidence to get us back to the shops. It will have the opposite effect on me as it will make the whole experience uncomfortable and something to be got over ASAP. No happy browsing or all day trips to the town centre pottering around different shops. I wonder how many others will feel the same?

NothingIsWrong · 13/07/2020 21:35

I have two weeks off in August. Going home to my mum for a few days. No inclination to go anywhere else

BogRollBOGOF · 13/07/2020 21:37

We bogged off to the zoo again.
More has opened up in the last couple of weeks, the indoor viewing areas and play areas. Just as well as several animals were dodging the rain showers otherwise we wouldn't have seen them. Very near normal Grin

AnxiousElephant77 · 13/07/2020 21:38

It’s less whether I can be bothered to go and more about not losing money on holidays that we’ve booked that haven’t been cancelled. I’d much prefer both be cancelled, particularly dd’s but it doesn’t look like it at the moment.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 21:39

A post was asking that and about half said they would go less to shops and half more. Quite even
