There have been quite a few studies saying children and schools are not big souces of infection.

Seems to be teen DD1 day to strop - she stormed out the house earlier having been in foul mood for 24 hours triggered by school physics work. I think the rain and friends parents not allowing visits and lack of phone drove her back.

We never spent so long together in a house - we've always gone out and about. We are trying at weekends to get but it's still enforced time together.

I'm worried about some relatives health problems so I'm not dealing well with attitude and DH not been great with her though calmer than me today.

Though least I'm not dealing with TUI - so there that.

Hope you get to real person at some point LivinLaVidaLoki

@Teateaandmoretea

In t he 18th Century they used to hold out for a few days after death, employing such tricks as nicotine smoke enemas in order to make sure the dead were actually dead.

Maybe PHE are doing that?

Also, fun fact, that is where the saying "blowing smoke up your ass" comes from.

I may have lost the plot completely today...............

Worldgonecrazy · 13/07/2020 16:41

If someone says it’s to protect, I’m going to ask ‘Protect from what?’ and then give them a lecture on local prevalence of COVID and what that means in terms of avoiding licking people to stay safe.

The media obsession with masks seems to be having the desired socio manipulative effect. Cummings must be wanking himself stupid seeing what he can get people to do.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/07/2020 16:42

Mask wearing is going to be the new "Stay the fuck at home" isnt it?

Mascotte · 13/07/2020 16:45

@LivinLaVidaLoki it seems so. Also demonstrating once again People’s weird desire to be told what to do, as well as being able to tell others what to do, and report them.

I looked that up as it sounded like a fact I should have heard from QI - and your right a cure for unconsciousness following drowning.

DH come in upset Bloddy Stuipd Johnson is using staycation as meaning UK holiday rather than it's original meaning of staying at home and possibly having odd day out. It's something people in the media seem to be increasingly doing I think becuase idea of UK holiday is so alien to them.

Still think maybe Greece next year depite having to check for roaming charges, getting comprehensive health insurance and maybe needing visa - but will wait too book anything till things become clear.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/07/2020 16:48

Tbh I would wear one in the shops if it did away with the Social Distancing in them, after all, youre only supposed to wear them when social distancing cant be done. And it shops it can.

If they told us to wear masks but did away with the queuing for a hundred years to get "a few bits" from Sainsburys.....Id do that.

But Ill be fucked if I still have to do while queuing up like some fucking clown.

It already is - you could see the build up of threads about it as soon as restrictions started being lifted. I actually think Boris needs to put it to bed now after all the stupidity this week and mixed messages. Either make them mandatory or not. I don't want them to be but at least it should shut up the eleventy billion threads on them. Actually maybe that's it - the rabid maskwearers will just bore us into submission.
HeIenaDove · 13/07/2020 16:49

Seems they think they havent quite killed off enough old people yet.

It would certainly be interesting to see how many who insist mask wearing protects the vulnerable and elderly would care about this.

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath
I heard it on a "buried alive" episode of Last podcast on the Left"

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/07/2020 16:55

What will they harangue everyone about after masks? I anticipate a few weeks of moaning about other people not wearing masks, then they’ll get bored and move on to something else.
It’ll probably be back to school dementoring as August/September gets closer.

Drivingdownthe101 · 13/07/2020 16:55

Ah of course, it’ll be mask wearing in schools. I mean, they manage it in China...

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 16:56

I am finding some of the health impact media reporting fairly biased. For example today there are some reports about people having heart problems after covid, in the hospital cases.

However it is a minority of people who are in hospital to start with and also I have noticed that those with high blood pressure and diabetes are at higher risk. Both associated with heart disease.

So how do they know a proportion of those recovering did not already have some degree of heart disease? To rule this out, scans would be needed before and after the virus.

Also there is a lot about post viral fatigue...but that can happen after any virus and flu, also sepsis. I had it after sepsis, along with shingles. There is little on what can be done to help, such as over time it can be managed with good nutrition and rest.

It is always unremittingly negative.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 16:57

Have you seen the pics of those poor Chinese kids at tiny desks with screens around and wearing masks? Looks pretty grim

MaudesMum · 13/07/2020 17:01

Trying to work out why you can go and browse in a bookshop, but not in a library. Is it because less naice people use libraries, and are more likely to lick the books?? Ours (like others) is trying out a personal shopping thingy via their website, where you say you like "crime" or "romance" and they find you a selection of books which you can then pick up from them at a designated time. My sister (who reads many more books than the average human being) is giving it a go - it will be fascinating to see how many of them she's already read.

HeIenaDove · 13/07/2020 17:04

I got told last week that i couldnt browse in WH Smith

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/07/2020 17:04

Still in a queue.
I feel like Phoebe from Friends.

@Worldgonecrazy well that's a mental image I could have done without, thanks for that

2) the kind of person that says that is not someone I like therefore I’m uninterested in protecting them

@torydeathdrug please can you just go and post that on every single fucking Disgusted And Infuriated And Appalled face mask thread on MN? You know you want to

I know I'm TeamMask but it's possible to be both TeamMask and NotATwat. This thread is a lovely example on how to agree to disagree or you're all too polite to say you think I'm a knob

There is certainly a pandemic of Judging The Fuck Out Of People on MN atm. What about the poor neglected, usually automatically unreasonable, MILs (who always need to be called out) - we don't see much of them anymore? Can't MNers just go back to judging the fuck out of them and not each other so we are all happy? Except MILs obviously but they're always in the wrong anyway so meh.

IAintentDead · 13/07/2020 17:06

@BarkandCheese

Plus anyone who was pecked to death by a crow, raven or magpie, because they’re corvids and that sounds kind of like covid.
It's a shame (kind of) that Seagulls are not Corvids because it's baby seagull time and Mama Seagulls have been known to kill injure anyone that threatens any of their precious babies.
Teateaandmoretea · 13/07/2020 17:07

@Orangeblossom78 totally agree. And how does it help us anyway? Quite clearly some people are resistant to Covid and some aren’t. Covid exists and probably always will to a greater or lesser degree.

It’s all the bollocks being reported about immunity (or lack of it) also that is really really annoying.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 17:08

At our library you can order online and collect, or download as well I think

That's rubbish about the prescriptions for the older people. They could keep the volunteer thing going and help set up online repeat deliveries with Boots perhaps, to help.

Why is there now a focus on the vulnerable and elderly going forward - they seem to be lumped in with everyone else. I sometimes see elderly people struggling in local shops and wonder if anyone is there to help them. In general I mean, not just due to this virus. And often they won;t want to ask for it either.

Orangeblossom78 · 13/07/2020 17:08

not, I mean, not 'now'

PinkFondantFancy · 13/07/2020 17:09

@Orangeblossom78 I've seen that picture held up on some MN threads as a beacon of what we should all be aspiring to in UK schools. There didn't seem to be any sarcasm involved unfortunately.

The obsession with masks and the social shaming etc is utterly baffling, and as I've said before, sinister. I found the clapping distopian enough but turns out that was just a warm up.

Mascotte · 13/07/2020 17:09

@IAintentDead yes, have you seen the thread by the poor poster who can't go in her garden because of the Mamma Gulls?!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 13/07/2020 17:12

Do you reckon if mask making is made mandatory all the mask threads will cob off to "Style and Beauty"?

There seem to be a fair few "what mask do I buy" threads....
