Checking in. The thread title is so funny 😂

Worldgonecrazy · 07/07/2020 13:54

Damn I had my quote ready and missed the opportunity.

Did I read that we were accused of scientific illiteracy? Surely being anti D Is rooted in a certain level of literacy, including reading beyond the headlines?

Rant over!

Ps. Love the thread title 😃

Flibbertyjibbit · 07/07/2020 13:55

De-lurking to say I love the new thread title! Grin

Ibake · 07/07/2020 13:56

so, in very simple terms, can someone please explain it to me?

Bollss · 07/07/2020 13:57

Has anyone seen the news about 5k grants for homeowners for stuff like new boilers and insulation.... The article says up to 5k...

I'm guessing I won't get anything because we don't claim anything, that's usually the case.. does anyone know?

Our shit hole house needs new windows and a new boiler it would save us a fortune but I'm picturing us getting a voucher for like £20! Grin

I’m interested in this too, we really need a new boiler Grin. I imagine it will be income based though.
Ibake · 07/07/2020 13:58

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath am v impressed with your thread etiquette. Link to new thread on old and link to old thread on new. That's someone who's good at admin. These are the sort of standards that we must all aspire to from now on ladies.

AnxiousElephant77 · 07/07/2020 14:02

Well I for one am looking forward to a BIG drink on Saturday. We’re going to the jewellery quarter to pick our wedding rings and then we have a table reserved for drinks. I cannot wait. I don’t even care that I’m a pox on society.

Bollss · 07/07/2020 14:02

That's what I thought driving our boiler is so old it doesn't have a thermostat, and the previous owners replaced half the windows so we have wooden frames at the back and uPVC at the front. Brill!

I mean we knew all this but a grant would be very welcome thank you very much!

KaronAVyrus · 07/07/2020 14:03

I wonder if this grant would be available in Scotland? Could do with a new boiler tbh.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 07/07/2020 14:03

@Ibake

On last thread CruCru and IAintentDead suggested it working from Teateaandmoretea suggestion.

Dementoring is a special kind of science. You take every hypothesis Ithat is negative and turn them into fact because they were written by an expert. You take every real negative piece of evidence (US) you add all these up.

Any positive piece of evidence you multiply by zero. It can be expressed as below:

D = fn + (p x 0)

How about

if D = fn + (p x 0) then AD =

but someone else would have to work that out 'cos I can't

If D = fn + (p x 0) then AD = - fn - (p x 0)

Or how about "ADs: We love a balanced equation"? After all, the point of these discussions is balance, rather than shrieking "Stay the fuck at home!!!" or running around licking strangers.

If that copying and pasting makes sense - one of our cats is on keyboard as she wants another walk around garden.

Our boiler has been in since the house was built 28 years ago. Every winter we expect it to die but we’ve scraped by so far! Still haven’t gone as far as saving the money to buy a new one though.
Ibake · 07/07/2020 14:06

I've had an energy grant through the post today. Edf sent me an email telling me that I had overpaid on my energy. Then they sent me a letter telling me that I had overpaid on my energy and that they would be sending me a payment. Today they sent me a cheque, for 82p ffs

mightbealittlebitmad · 07/07/2020 14:07

People are going on about people going out with symptoms and people being asymptomatic so they are spreading the virus.

If it's still in circulation it still spreads regardless. We can keep things closed for the next year but if the virus is still around even if it's 10 cases all it takes is for someone who has it but doesn't realise to go out and it spreads.

So what is the issue with opening things up now as opposed to a year's time because the results are still going to be same.

The only way we can stop this is to shut down the country and keep everyone in their houses for a month. No hospitals, public transport, food factories, supermarkets, electricity, internet...

We would need police on every single street unless they nailed us into our houses but even then someone could just break the glass.

The fact is, it's out there, we can't yet get rid of it so we need to try and live with it in circulation. We have taken precautions like social distancing to minimise the damage. We put 30mph speed limits in place in residential areas to minimise the damage if there is an accident. We don't say nobody can drive a car because there is a risk you might hurt someone. I drive in a sensible manner because I don't want to hurt someone or myself, just like I'm taking the necessary precautions not to spread the virus. I'm not staying in permanently just incase because that would be insane.

Pleasedontdothat · 07/07/2020 14:08

Fabulous thread title 😀 (even though it makes my brain hurt ... maths and I have never been BFFs)

DrearyWallAntler · 07/07/2020 14:08

Afternoon all.

I have been doing more reading on Fergusons broken calculator.

Fun fact: the results fundemntally alter depending on which computer you run them on.

bookworm14 · 07/07/2020 14:09

Checking in. Love the thread title - that will baffle them.

Orangeblossom78 · 07/07/2020 14:09

We had a new boiler on one of those schemes a few years ago- green scheme or something? Not sure. It was income based though I think.

They took away the massive old one and gave us a new small one. Valliant. It's been a good saving in bills.

Bollss · 07/07/2020 14:11

@Drivingdownthe101 neither have we Grin decided we needed to rip the kitchen wall down and get a new kitchen first! To be honest for it's age it's not bad we won't replace it until it dies, or the government kindly offer to do it!

Oh @Ibake that is disappointing!! Shell energy keep refunding my credit and then putting my bill up because I'm not in credit. Twats.

justasking111 · 07/07/2020 14:11

In Wales the boilers, loft insulation thing has been going for years. A tenant phoned me had been offered both. I pointed out the boiler was less than two years old but they could check out the insulation. Bugger me they insulated the loft. Landlords must have done well out of it in Wales.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 07/07/2020 14:11

Last improved energy scheme they did we looked into with our first house - there were all kinds of stipulations that meant it wasn't really as good as it seemed and really not very accessible.

That house was a money pit - doing the boiler meant dodgy electrics were found which meant we had to get entire house re-wired but oddly and worryingly did mean our electric bill dropped like a stone.

We've just had the bolier here looked at - and it's all fine which was good.

That's good! I hope we will be eligible for something at least. We earn just over 50k together but don't / can't claim anything.
