Found you!

There is much less dementoring recently! Where have the hysterical posts gone? There’s a denial that they were ever terrified.

Strange.

Ibake · 09/07/2020 20:40

@Mascotte

How long do you reckon the masks thing will go on for?
One of the things I feel really uncomfortable about is that it's feeling like insidious creep atm. They've not overtly mandated them but they are now talking about them at any and all opportunity. Adverts 'advise' them, the govt propoganda machine keeps referencing them. Drip drip drip. Masks by osmosis and it worries me.

Local paper this evening ran this story about one of our local restaurants opening up and how happy they were. All I could do was stare at the picture. My reaction is visceral every single time.

Ooh, we're nearly full. Didn't someone suggest something like ADs Go Down For The Town, earlier, or has the situation vastly moved on again in the following few hours?

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 20:52

Those espresso martinis look like a pair of boobs! I know, I’m juvenile, I’m sorry.

Mascotte · 09/07/2020 20:56

@Ibake I'm glad I'm not alone. I was thinking today I am actually a bit mental about them.

I am a bit mental about them too. I feel like I should just accept ‘they might reduce transmission therefore they should be worn’ but I just can’t. I also have a visceral reaction to them... like they’re degrading and inhuman.

MagdaS · 09/07/2020 20:58

Go Down On The Town

I think.

profpoopsnagle · 09/07/2020 21:04

Yes- I have definitely noticed that nearly all coronavirus related news stories have a picture with at least one prominent mask wearer. Agree with the drip drip drip.

And a lot of pictures show them where people seem very happy to wear them- young children in schools abroad, or as in that picture above. I bet a lot of kids can't wait to get them off as soon as.

Ibake · 09/07/2020 21:04

I hadn't even spotted that coz too busy recoiling in horror at the masks but now you come to mention it...
BakewellTarts · 09/07/2020 21:06

@AnxiousElephant77 the wedding rules are so shit. How can you celebrate with one family and not the other is not the point of weddings that two families are joined? Our cousins wedding due 20/8 has now been postponed for a year. Rubbish as I know that they want to get married and have babies and get on with their life. I hope its sorted out by the time it's your wedding.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 21:06

@Ibake Grin

Ds is worrying me with the mask thing, he's going to be a right nuisance keeping it on on the plane. Oh God, I wish they'd just cancel our bloody holiday it all sounds like a load of bollocks.

AnxiousElephant77 · 09/07/2020 21:08

Thanks @BakewellTarts but I really don't think it's looking good any more.

So is this it then, until there's a vaccine? Is this our lives? I don't know if I can see any other outcome at the moment. No concerts, no theatre, no nightclubs (yes I'm 43 but I do love an 80s night), no parties?

Really? Is this it?

BakewellTarts · 09/07/2020 21:08

Anyway just had the best night out with my lovely family at my fabulous local. Sat for two hours chatting. With Tweens and Teens. And the husband. Was really great. And food that I didn't cook or have to clear up. Even better paid for by my boss. Perfect!!! (And yes was different but well run and complied with all the new ROOLZ for hospitality).

I hope not and don't think so.
TheOrchidKiller · 09/07/2020 21:18

Thank you for the rational comments about essential travel and a right to family life. You are right. The fact that I haven't seen family for over 6 months now is the most upsetting part of this, & the posters just rubbed it in.

I do have a problem in getting DM to allow me to visit because of her anxiety, & her beliefs about 2nd waves & all that. Got my work cut out there.

@Ibake I did wonder if DM was in your book group for a moment because she's been panicking about her own book group breaking the rules by having more than 6 meeting at once, and she won't go because of it. But I doubt it's her.

Oh, that sounds lovely.

And sadly something I can only ever dream of. My family is quite incapable of a relaxing evening out :(

Ibake · 09/07/2020 21:20

@AnxiousElephant77 December still a long way off 🤞

According to Twitter it was Go Down For Your Town, the one below is far too crude - clutches pearls.

fartingsparkles · 09/07/2020 21:24

Oh so much to catch up on!!

@genegenie that's miserable of your colleagues :( least you're out of there soon.

@countrygirl great day!

@Anxious you're plan sounds sensible. You definitely should get proper day and wear your gorgeous dress.

Its been a funny week really. Probably not helped by the weather. Monday was fab. We saw friends and went to asda - no queue and I accidentally kept ignoring the 1 way system but no one told me off or even looked askance at me!
But the last few days have been inside and tidying (so much for the charity shops) and boring (but necessary!) Today was a trip to sainsbury's. A small swift moving queue and no 1 way system. All quiet normalish, til you get the perspex boxes tills. Doesn't help that I am aching, a mix of sciatica and 'interesting' sleeps. Oh well, at least tomorrow is supposed to be nice weather, so i can get the washing dry if nothing else!

I swear the word 'essential' is going to be one that brings me out in hives after all this is done! What may be essential to me, is completely different to what someone else would consider essential (come between me and my pepsi max at your own risk!). And as for 'non essential travel', they can fuck right off! It is essential to see one's family - or those who are substitute for it. If me and my friend couldn't drive, and were reliant on public transport, then that would be an essential journey to me, for my sanity.

TheOrchidKiller · 09/07/2020 21:35

The optimistic bit of me (it's only teeny, tiny these days but it's in there somewhere) says the masks creep is people jumping on the band-wagon. It's a business opportunity for some people. It's just a fad for others- a few weeks ago it was Stick A Rainbow In Your Window For The NHS, a few years ago everyone was knitting poppies for Remembrance Day. Next month it might be something else.

The giant pessimist in me says we will all be forced to wear them at all times, even in bed.

In photos of people wearing them, like in that espresso martini picture, the masks aren't necessary. I think there's an element of businesses wanting to show how covid-compliant they are because that might win them customers, or they at least believe it will.

wanderings · 09/07/2020 21:35

How about a new thread title to do with resisting masks and muzzles?

I think the best way to resist the muzzles by osmosis is simply not to wear them ourselves, to keep the numbers in our favour. People are sheep, so some might take the view "if they're not wearing a mask, I won't bother either". Many people have abandoned social distancing; hopefully the same will happen with the muzzles. It does annoy me the way they're in so many pictures; I remember the same when Sars was reported. Sooner or later, even the Dementors will be sick of them (if not sick from them). There's one picture I haven't found: Boris in a mask, and because he loves a photo opportunity, he would muzzle himself up for any reason. Even Google Images "Boris mask" has failed to deliver; it looks like he doesn't believe in them himself.

I expect Her Majesty's clowns suddenly threw in masks to make sure the plebs had something new to bicker about. (I got told off for saying "plebs" and "Bliar" on another thread, is it safe to do so here?)

fartingsparkles · 09/07/2020 21:41

I saw masks referred to as facial sanitary towels, which made me giggle a bit (cos that's why they reminded me of)

Mascotte · 09/07/2020 21:42

@fartingsparkles we're people not suggesting using a sanitary towel as a filter in them?!

Mascotte · 09/07/2020 21:43
