@bluefoxmug

what does an underwire do that can't be done with a few pieces of fabric?
You obviously don't have 34J boobs!! 🤣

I would like to say I do and I do mostly but... one or two pesky bras leap into the washing bag of their own accord and then leap into the washing machine! Luckily I find them before I put stuff in the tumble dryer!

They are supposed to last 3 months longer. ^ months if handwashed, 3 if in washing machjine.

My washing machine has a "handwash" setting: I've used this to do wired bras for years, no problems.

3 months longer?

3 months longer than what, though? how long is a bra supposed to last?

I have some R&P bras and each cost around EUR 120. I have about 10 bras and wear each one twice or so (unless i get really sweaty) before washing (short gentle machine wash in mesh bags) and they usually last about 4 or 5 years before i get rid of them. And there is usually nothing wrong with the elastic or fabric, but they start to rub at that part where the underwire ends at the side. (in fact i sewed a bit of fleece in a couple and got a bit longer out of them)

So that makes it around €20 per bra per year, which is fine for me. I was over the moon when M&S finally started doing decent bras in ginormous sizes.
