Nope. 34J here pricey and so the wire would wreck the machine though - in mesh bags on a handwash cycle

catfeets · 28/06/2020 23:10

I've always chucked them in the washing machine. They're expensive but I can't be arsed washing them by hand. They still last years even when battered by the machine. I do use a wash bag for them so that no zips catch/pull the bra fabric.

MoreSchnitzelPlease · 28/06/2020 23:10

I put them in the washing machine by hand, does that count? I just put them on a 30 min wash cycle, or one for delicates. I used to wash my bras by hand, but my health has decreased and I can no longer stand at a sink to hand-wash clothes.

I also put mine in a pillowcase. Despite being clean (I hope) white bras always got grubby which wouldn't come out with handwashing. I did learn on MN though that you can't see red through white so now I wear red bras instead of white ones.

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 28/06/2020 23:12

No! Never have, never will. I put them on the delicates wash. Always seems fine

torquewench · 28/06/2020 23:15

I thought they were labelled handwash because the underwires are liable to damage washing machines if they get stuck through the holes in the drum? A friend who worked for a bra retailer has dealt with numerous complaints about underwired bras damaging washing machines. One of mine once somehow got stuck between the seal and the glass door, it was on a fast spin and I only noticed when it got so hot it was glowing orange and left a gouge in the glass, so mine have all been handwashed ever since.

I was also told at a bra fitting that the underwire can get twisted out of shape when sloshing about in a machine, even in a lingerie bag. Which is annoying as mine are all £35+ and need to last a while 😁

JulesJules · 28/06/2020 23:18

In a mesh bag and in the washing machine on the handwash programme. No fabric conditioner, no tumble drier

KeepWashingThoseHands · 28/06/2020 23:18

Nope

Itisbetter · 28/06/2020 23:19

If the problem is the wires it surely isn’t beyond possible to make the wires detachable? Stupid irritating bra peopleAngry

MrsMoastyToasty · 28/06/2020 23:19

As a person of large norkage I do hand wash them but that's because at £40 for a decent branded bra I'm not going to risk it.
Any washing machines don't like bras and bras don't like washing machines.

Fleetheart · 28/06/2020 23:20

Of course not. I don’t wash them more than once a week though

luminette · 28/06/2020 23:25

Mesh bag, delicates programme.

Livpool · 28/06/2020 23:31

TBH mine are just chucked in the washing machine

MotherMorph · 28/06/2020 23:33

I chuck mine in the wash with everything else. I've got fried eggs and mostly wear bralets or crop top styles so I've got v few underwire bras that I wear regularly. There is a handwashing programme on my machine but I cant remember the last time I used it.. possibly for something wool.(obvs not a bra!)

wonkylegs · 28/06/2020 23:35

Nope

AllDressedUpForMyselfOnly · 28/06/2020 23:35

God no!

Wishforsnow · 28/06/2020 23:38

Wow I'm way behind, wasn't aware of mesh bags

MrsR87 · 28/06/2020 23:39

Most of my bras are 'hand wash only' but I've never had washed in in my life. They get out on a normal wash but if it's an especially expensive or delicate one I put it in a mesh bag.

MrsR87 · 28/06/2020 23:39

*I've never hand washed

Wishforsnow · 28/06/2020 23:39

Also realising that now I am aware of mesh bags can't see why they are needed.

motherofawhirlwind · 28/06/2020 23:40

Nope. Despite being large of nork and expensive, they go in at 40 degs, no mesh bag, tumble dried. Seem to last absolutely fine (Panache Tango II)

PutBabyInTheCorner · 28/06/2020 23:42

I hand wash all of mine! They've all got wires and loads of padding though so think the machine would ruin them.

managedmis · 28/06/2020 23:45

Ain't nobody got time for dat

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 28/06/2020 23:45

No. Just bung them in the machine. They hold up well. I wouldn't put one in if the wires were starting to come out.

Bagelsandbrie · 28/06/2020 23:45

No way. I’m a 32H and buy expensive bras but I just chuck them in the normal wash. Quicker and I always think hand washing doesn’t get anything quite as clean.
