Hell no. Life's too short. Bung them in the washing machine. They are expensive because I am an H cup but handwashing isn't as hygienic.

IlanaWexler · 29/06/2020 12:40

I have a third laundry basket for items which I don't want to throw in with either whites or darks. It's mainly mixed coloured items that might run, delicate items like bras, & stained items that need a pre-soak. These all get put in the washing machine together on a cooler delicate setting.

EL8888 · 29/06/2020 13:06

Nope. I’m another mesh bag person here

Christ, last week we were on here talking about handwashing and using a salad spinner to wash bras.
Personally I used to throw mine in the machine until on of my cheap but tiny (32a) underwires came out and got caught in the other side of the drum but sticking up just enough to make a bloody racket. Have stopped wearing a bra since then.

DelurkingAJ · 29/06/2020 13:16

Yes. At £70 a pop I handwash them. I only wear them once and I was the knickers in the machine. The knickers are in much worse shape than the bras. Once a week, 15 minute job.

Crosswithlifeatm · 29/06/2020 13:18

All bracketing bras on 20 min quick wash,I disagrees them with other clothes .I find that I can't get the straps as clean brainwashing and honestly, life's too short.

IlanaWexler · 29/06/2020 14:07

@Crosswithlifeatm brainwashing Grin

ExtremelyBoldSquirrels · 29/06/2020 14:12

No. I have a general survival of the fittest laundry policy - clothes that don't make it through the washing machine/dryer were clearly not tough enough for my life.

bluefoxmug · 29/06/2020 14:30

squirrels you are my kinda woman.
I'm the same. if it can't go in the washer it's not worth having.

I used to work for Knickerbox back in the 1990s. All of their bras had handwash only on the labels - reason being that if the wire came out of bra it could wreck your washing machine and company did not want to stump up for customer's new machine.

bluefoxmug · 29/06/2020 14:38

wrt wire coming out - a mesh bag stops it wrecking the machine

GCHWho · 29/06/2020 14:48

No underwiring here - the devils engineering imo. Wash in machine, but natural drying.

bluefoxmug · 29/06/2020 14:52

wires are evil, I agree.
I take great care to chose bras without wires, which is difficult beyond a d cup.
no bra fitter was able to really explain what a wire actually does apart from poking.

I can only buy bras from Bravissimo so they're expensive but I've never handwashed any of them, or put them in a special bag. I just bung them in with the rest of the washing, usually on a 30/40 degree wash. They have always come out OK.

employeewoes · 29/06/2020 15:43

No. In the machine with everything else.

They last fine.

I'm just mourning on of my favourite bras. The wire came out 😭 but it was almost 5 years old!

employeewoes · 29/06/2020 15:44

Wires for me are more comfortable and give me better shape. I don't wear uncomfortable bras.

Brefugee · 29/06/2020 15:46

Where are you all getting these massive (I'm 38 GG) inexpensive (40 quid) bras?* (I'm not in UK though) Mine all cost around €100.
But i do wash them in the machine, in mesh bags on the 30 minute cool cycle. They do last a long time.

*i did get a load of M&S ones last visit (too long ago) and one had been reduced to 8 quid which was great

Crosswithlifeatm · 29/06/2020 15:48

I think the brainwashing included the wiered auto thing on my phone.
I find the straps over the shoulders harder to get clean properly, they go grey over time.A quick wash in the machine works .
I have had one wire stuck in my time but easily fixable.

isthismylifenow · 29/06/2020 15:56

Laundry bag on hand wash cycle.

Sometimes dunked and soaked in the sink.

Dd has expensive bras as she's fortunate in the boob department unlike me. But they cost a fortune so she does them on the hand wash cycle and does mine at the same time.

ZoeyCha · 29/06/2020 15:58

No, I don't have time for that!

Herecomethehotstepper · 29/06/2020 16:10

I used to buy padded, underwired bras and they would all go weird and lumpy after a while from machine washing. I've just bought some new bralettes and am still debating whether to put them in the machine or not.

StarlightLady · 29/06/2020 16:23

I don’t want to cause upset here, but l’m surprised how many people find underwires uncomfortable.

luminette · 29/06/2020 16:27

I can’t wear bras without them, I’m with you!
Ristar · 29/06/2020 16:30

No, but just buy cheapish bras anyway. Only once have I had a wire poke out. I don't tumble dry though.

user1471523870 · 29/06/2020 16:35

No, and no mesh bag either. Actually, could someone explain why the mesh bag (I genuinely have no idea)?
