When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

West End Bar, Wobble, S.L.A.G, Sundissential- Birmingham

Insomniacz, Gatecrasher- Sheffield

Sundissential North, Speedqueen- Leeds

Goodgrief- Manchester

I haven't had pipe cleaners in my hair and UV paint for 17 years now...feeling really old!

bluejelly · 27/06/2020 00:02

Camden Palace, Astoria, the Rocket, SW1, Turnmills, Heaven, the Fridge. And that was just London Smile
So many epic nights out.

Nowadays it's Netflix and a cup of tea!

Newcastle, mid-90s to mid-00s. Now wondering if I might know some of you...

Baja Beach Club where it was live on the radio on a Friday night and they had their in house dancers on a stage overlooking the dance floor.

The Boat which stank of sweaty feet and had a revolving dance floor that was a terrible idea when drunk as well as a karaoke room which was also a terrible idea when drunk. On Thursdays(?) you paid £8 in and then all your drinks were free.

Rock Rockshots on a Wednesday(?) where it was also £8 in and all drinks free. They had one room for dance music and another for indie/rock. Its flats and offices now.

The pink triangle with the original Powerhouse which was almost literally a basement.

Foundation was for when you were feeling flush because it was £££ to get in unless you went really early and sat in a virtually empty club for hours in end feeling like an idiot.

Legends, it's a cinema now.

The Empress just down from the Castle Keep. We used to start there then down the hill to the Quayside with Pravda, Jimmy's, The Quilted Camel, the Cooperage, Casa, and Wetherspoons then we had our pick of Sea, Baja, or the Boat for clubbing unless we fancied walking back up Grey Street or the Bigg Market to go to either Legends or Blu Bambu. If we went to Baja or the Boat then we had to go to Buffalo Joe's first for shots.

I'd like to be 17 again but with all the knowledge and experience I have now!

LBOCS2 · 27/06/2020 00:07

God, to start with it was New Cross, Fabric, LA2 in the late 90s, 00s. Then I went to uni and the uni years (and post) were a cycle of Lava/Ignite, Mercy, LCR, Waterfront in Norwich.

Then I came back to London and spent most of my time in either the Black Sheep in Croydon or at Voodoo.

And then they closed the sheep :( (I also had babies and stopped going out, but they were unconnected).

MinecraftMother · 27/06/2020 00:08

1998 I was 18. Liverpool, Warrington, Manchester and Sheffield.

I find myself harking back to those days now more than ever. I don't know why. I'd love to go back for a few weeks and really blow out...
@CherryPavlova
Thanet night clubs - nero’s / LA’s, Peggy sues, the Avenue ???

Canterbury - studio 3

London - Camden Palais, electric ballroom, the whirly gig !!
Hull - the welly !!
Swansea - Cinderella’s - mumbles

Gloucester - crackers !! KC’s liquid

Liverpool - the state ....

So many memories 😊
Nero’s was a little smarter than some. Riggers. The ocean rooms. Angeliques in Westgate. The Bowlers Arms and whatever the place above was called- Starlight club maybe?
Hades was the worst down in the bowels of the Lido complex. Must have been a huge fire risk.
Later on the greyhound stadium had a place that was a bit less grim. Only just though.

Sherrys Night club in Brighton when I was 15/16, (so that would be 1981) Then it became the Pink Coconut, I used to go to Busbys in Redhill and also Brighton, Top Rank in Brighton and Taveners (half wat to Brighon) I used to go clubbing from the age of 15 - 21 then had my DC and then went clubbing with my DD by accident at Prizym (not sure of spelling), basically went for cocktails on my 50th with my DD who was 20 and they suddenly locked the doors at 10 and if you are having cocktails you get free entry to the nightclub, bit of an eye opener many years on. I did attend a few hen nights at Icon and Diva (later known as Liquid and Envy) and also Davincis in East Grinstead, and Brannigans in Crawley. I went to Ibiza when I was 17 and although not like it is now, it was still a clubbing holiday. (although went with my boyfriend so not quite the same). I also went clubbing in Amsterdam when I was on a school trip at 15, the last night of the educational trip they had a party in our hotel and me and my friend asked one of the student teachers if we could go for a walk, and we found a night club, some guys bought us drinks all night, and then we were in trouble as we met the teachers on our walk back to our hotel who realised we were missing. Apart from that I haven't really clubbed. I am 55 now so many moons ago all of this

MinecraftMother · 27/06/2020 00:11

@nancybotwinbloom

The state, the 051, The buzz, baa bar, garlands, clear, heaven, cream, paradox.
Are you me and all my friends...?!!
Wilberforce1 · 27/06/2020 00:12

Grew up in East London so locally it was Powerhouse in Stratford! If not there then Scala in Kings Cross (Cookies and Cream), MOS, Heaven, Madam JoJo's! I also used to go to some random club in Tottenham but I can't remember what it was called maybe Polo?! This is from 96 onwards.. I miss being able to stay up until 6am and not feel shit for a week after 🤣

OutComeTheWolves · 27/06/2020 00:13

Oh this thread has made me smile. I'm just scrolling through looking for fellow geordies to wave at 👋

Newcastle late nineties and early naughties- Cuba Cuba, stone love at foundation, then later digital, fuck me 10p at rockshots, powerhouse, Baja beach club, legends, planet earth. Also loved taking the odd trip through to Sunderland for a Thursday night at pzazz.

What I wouldn't give to be in one of those places now, some awesome music playing, that weeks wages in my purse and no responsibilities!

StormBaby · 27/06/2020 00:13

Started out going to illegal raves, then progressed on to Club UK, Berwick Manor, Aquarium, and I was a podium dancer at Peach for a while in the late 90s. Then I met the ex husband in 2000 and we had a chemical romance where we traveled the country every weekend partying hard: Turnmils, Gatecrasher, Cream, Sankeys, Rennaisance, Passion, The Cross, Bagleys, Fridge, Mass. We fell utterly in love with The End and went every month. I was devastated when It closed down, I was 24 weeks pregnant with my 3rd and still managed to dance until 4 am. I sobbed at the end of the night.
I'd still go now if I had someone to go with. It's not my now-DHs scene.

SlightyJaded · 27/06/2020 00:13

@NeedToKnow101

Yep - all yours are familiar.

The Legends/Burlington Street wasn't the night you mentioned. It's bugging me now - it was pretty tame by comparison although I do remember the metal staircase being quite the challenge...

OutComeTheWolves · 27/06/2020 00:13

Oh and Wiggle at Northumbria uni on a Saturday!

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 27/06/2020 00:14

Erol is something unique, isn't he. TRASH at The End was just the best thing.

No worries. There was a rollergirl at Stay Beautiful, took the Rollaroids.

Bearfrills · 27/06/2020 00:15

@OutComeTheWolves Planet Earth! Thank you! Was trying to remember the name of the club behind The Gate and that was it.

QueenCT · 27/06/2020 00:16

Bolton - atlantis, ikon, jumping jacks
Preston - squires, Tokyo joes, browns

Atlantis was always my favourite, Boxing Day ticket only all you could drink, the Diet Coke man on stage.. the night there was a shooting, the time I woke up in Wigan.. Blush

I was out last year until 6am Blush the cat glared at me when I got in

Jenasaurus · 27/06/2020 00:16

Oh and Cinderellas Nightclub just remembered that one too

Bearfrills · 27/06/2020 00:18

I used to arrive home the same time as the milk float and still manage to be up at 8am. Now I need a lie in and/or an early night the next night if I'm up past 2am. What the fuck happened?

AriettyHomily · 27/06/2020 00:18

Tunnel, arches inGlasgow and Mercado in Edinburgh. A few big Gatecrashers thrown in as well in fields that I can't even remember where 😂

Jenasaurus · 27/06/2020 00:24

I remember the scary walk back after clubbing to Brighton train station.
I had to go up a steep road past the park where there always seemed to be a poster about murders and calling for witnesses on the railings, freaked me out so took off my heels which were always killing me and ran bare foot most of the way.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 27/06/2020 00:24

What was the gay club somewhere near London Bridge? Vague memory of it being under the arches with mirrored bathrooms.

Jenasaurus · 27/06/2020 00:25

They were cattle markets really in the 80s, and always a random old man dancing away on his own.

Jenasaurus · 27/06/2020 00:27

I did visit a couple of clubs in Oxford with my son and his friends when I visited him at Uni too, cant remember the names of them but they were different to the ones I used to go to, no slow dances at the end of the night which clubs seemed to do back in the day :)

B1rdbra1n · 27/06/2020 00:28

everyone on this thread is so young 😁
for me it was Exeter 1980s 'Tmepiece'🤔 that's about all I can remember😶
