When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

@Jenasaurus

I did visit a couple of clubs in Oxford with my son and his friends when I visited him at Uni too, cant remember the names of them but they were different to the ones I used to go to, no slow dances at the end of the night which clubs seemed to do back in the day :)
Sorry, there was meant to be a quote there.

Zodiac, Fifth Avenue, Park End, the Dolly?

MsJuniper · 27/06/2020 00:35

So many places I haven't thought about for ages on this thread!

Started at the Dome in Tufnell Park, to Camden - Underworld etc, then Leeds - so many clubs from indie to trance to techno but found my happy place at the Orbit (like @MsRinky) and Creamfields every year when it was one night only.

Back to London - G-A-Y, Popstarz at the Scala, Mass, Fridge, Egg, Mint, sometimes MOS. XOYO and some other random places later on.

I haven't really missed it since having children but reading this thread has brought back some brilliant, hazy memories.

Occasional trips to Kelly's in Portrush that cost a fortune were looked forward to for weeks and were such a disappointment*

I always preferred Traks. It's a factory shop now! I live in Portrush now and can see it from my living room window. Wish it was still a club!

EL8888 · 27/06/2020 00:37

Also London, mid 90’s, the Underworld, Electric Ballroom, loony tunes at the Dome, Heaven and KU bar.

Also remember the Gas Club when I was 16 and telling people the day after at school. Locally we had a BRITISH GAS social club and some kid was like “yes, I went there for my nans 70th”
Haaaaaa!!!

@LilyLocket the lea valley roller disco is such a good memory of mine, my dad took me when I was really little, I think his mate must have let me in. Glad someone else remembers it!

Starksforthewin · 27/06/2020 01:28

Birmingham early 80s for me.

Faces was the best club in town. One room for the New Romantics and the other for fantastic soul tunes. DJ was Steve Dennis. Looked like a history teacher but was a fantastic dj. I think he went on to run Luminar Leisure!

Also enjoyed Liberty, Rum Runner, Barbarella’s and the famous Snobs.

I would go back in a heart beat.

I lived in Edgbaston at the time, so my friend and I would regularly walk home barefoot if we’d spent our taxi money on drinks and couldn’t cope with our heels a moment longer!

OldKingCole · 27/06/2020 01:29

Cant believe I’m the first Dublin poster:

The Red Box
The Pod
The Funnel
Columbia Mills
The Temple
Switch

Late 90’s / Early noughties

Great days!!

Toseland · 27/06/2020 01:31

Whirl-y-gig - famous for it’s parachute dance. Now the oldest club in London?
Return to the Source, the Fridge - wild trance
Cool Tan Brixton - grunge squat parties
Jah Shaka - dub, still going strong
Bagleys - many varied nights
Went to Mass once - did not like the crush on the stairwell at all.
Ministry of sound - more people posing than partying, a tourist attraction really.
Overall, great fun.
