When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

@Piggyplumpie I remember all those clubs you mentioned, good times!

Do you remember Eclipse on Babington Lane? And Berlin's? Although I don't think that could be classed as clubbing.

Oldraver · 27/06/2020 12:35

@Franticbutterfly.. I my boyfriend once set fire to the 414 dancefloor as he misdudged poppers and a lit cigarette

Oldraver · 27/06/2020 12:36

Babington Lane was an ultra dive...even way back in the 80's

Started at The Island, followed by a more garage place in ilford, I want to say Fifth avenue but it might be something else.

The peak though was Eros in Enfield, Wednesdays were legendary, Fridays were good, Sweet Harmony and Sweet RnB awesome. Amazing memories of Eros.

Others included Temple in Tottenham, Scalia (meat market bloody awful) and various other places Iceni maybe, definitely did some nights in random places like Corks and Loop.

Eros was my spiritual home. I have fond memories of Alex’s in Magaluf too which intersect with my Eros memories.

Started off in the 80's in Sheffield, Romeo & Juliet's, Steely's, Josephines, then Roxy's when the Hitman & her was on. Had 20+ years of not going clubbing as I lost interest, then got married & had ds, got divorced, met partner who was 14 years younger than me & started going clubbing again in Mansfield where he lived, Illusions, Roman's & various clubs in Nottingham.

This brings back so many memories of the nineties and naughties! I was in London so the Gardening Club on a Saturday for a bit of Chris and James and on a good night leaving there at 6am and walking to the Leisure Lounge to carry on dancing to 10am. The Ministry, the Cross, the End, DTPM on a Sunday and still making to work on a Monday morning. Spent many a Saturday night in the Fridge with gay mates. The Satellite club, Camden Palace, Peach at Cafe de Paris on a Friday, Turnmills, Georgie party’s out in Ealing on some sound stage and mates hiring boats on the Thames to run our own parties. Summer holidays in Ibiza at Space on Sunday, Pasha, DC10’s and all the rest, clubbing for 10 nights in a row! Never mind all the dodgy clubs turned up to over the years, with a funny vibe or no obvious way out, feeling like we were being really edgy. Great times!

mornington444 · 27/06/2020 13:03

No clubbing for me, I love seals, they are such graceful creatures.

NervousInYorkshire · 27/06/2020 13:05

Bradford, mid 90s...
Rio's, Tumbler's and Underworld (the one that was basically someone's basement).
The odd exciting trip to Leeds for Stomp (later became Star) at the met; the Cockpit under the railway station and the Phono.

Early 00s: same as above but less Bradford. Queen's Court £1 nights, and back to the Cockpit for Poptastic, shagtags, and terribleness Blush

Various clubs around the SE and Brighton.

Loved Brighton's The Gloucester, Midnight Blues, Oriana's, Honey Club, Zap Club, Hungry Years.

Various Ikon/Divas.

Martine's and The Base in East Grinstead.

Blue Orchid and Reflex in Croydon.

Never went to any clubs in the north, would have loved to have gone to Hacienda.

Beebityboo · 27/06/2020 13:47

Early to mid 00s, the rock scene in Birmingham. The Flapper, Snobs and Subculture. I had so much fun. Now all those places are gone, makes me really sad actually.

thesunwillout · 27/06/2020 13:49

Tho I replied upthread about London, my very first clubs and nights were at college in Plymouth in the mid to late 80's.

Some hilarious nights out.
Union Street, The Barbican areas.

Anyone else?

NathanNathan · 27/06/2020 13:55

@NeedToKnow101 thanks Smile seems like so long ago!

Daisychainsandglitter · 27/06/2020 13:55

@Beebityboo I started Birmingham Uni in 2002 and I remember all those places well. Loved it! I'm too old for clubbing now but I look back on that time with fond memories and it make me sad that all these places are gone and the scene has changed.
I also loved Edwards No8.
Prior to coming to Birmingham I could be found in Kartouche nightclub in Ipswich Monday night which was student night. Such carefree days!

Franticbutterfly · 27/06/2020 13:57

@oldraver Bet the old bat that owns it loved that! 😂

NathanNathan · 27/06/2020 14:00

@Oldraver we only just found 414 in the pas few years and now it's shut! We live really nearby and just stumbled in one night...

Beebityboo · 27/06/2020 14:01

I loved Eddie's! The Halloween parties were brilliant. Last I heard Snobs had relocated but it just wouldn't be the same. Probably for the best though as the old one was a complete fire hazard Grin.

Witchofzog · 27/06/2020 14:27

@Rollergirl11 That's amazing that you also went to the Rhythm Station. I loved the Club Fusion nights on a Friday. There was always such an amazing atmosphere. I used to go raving wearing a big pink feather boa. I always used to burn it with my fags and I must have been ridiculously hot too but they were fabulous times

Jenasaurus · 27/06/2020 14:56

Lemonmaid You must be from my neck of the woods, same clubs as you, I forgot about Martines in East Grinstead, but mainly Brighton and Redhill clubs too

Ariela · 27/06/2020 15:21

@Sunnydayshereatlast

Newcastle. Maddison's night club. 1990 's maybe.
Then that awful floating boat later that decade..
Dobson's,the Big Market.

I think the floating boat was about in the 1980s. Had telephones on the tables I think? But what was it called??

Also what was the one in a former theatre in Bournemouth called?

And the one near Reading at Woodley used to be the Falcon Hotel the nightclub was called Raffles. Had a swimming pool outside. Now demolished and part of a housing estate.

Bearfrills · 27/06/2020 15:30

The Boat was the Tuxedo Royale and then was replaced by the Tuxedo Princess and then I think it changed back to the Tuxedo Royale but I might have imagined that.

NathanNathan · 27/06/2020 15:37

Tuxedo Princess!

So many rumours, apparently there was one in Glasgow(?) too and they swapped over sometimes...? But the other people said it was concreted to the floor of the Tyne Grin

JorisBonson · 27/06/2020 15:39

A lot of the London contingent here!

Camden Palace, The Fridge, The Scala, Bagleys, The Cross, The Key... they were the days!

Mawbags · 27/06/2020 15:40

@NathanNathan @Bearfrills

My mate was escorted out for shagging in the cabins and was so embarrassed she never mentioned it for about ten years 😂

caringcarer · 27/06/2020 15:40

I grew up in rural Devon but still loved clubbing. I frequented Tiffany's, Qui Club, Samantha's, Verbeer Manor and Claps. I loved the freedom to go where I pleased, to glam up and have no care about what time I arrived home knowing I could lie in bed the next morning. Very happy memories of my misprint youth. Did anyone else visit these haunts?
