When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

@turnthebiglightoff

I went to Caesar’s in Streatham once Grin. Wasn’t it Over 25s only? I was about 19 and just went to get hammered on the cheap, nasty spirits unfortunately!

There was a Caesar’s in Old Kent Road, too. No idea if they were connected? It was full of youngsters, you paid £20 to get in and then could drink as much as you wanted (paint stripper spirits). It was a cesspit and not surprisingly absolute carnage!

I didn’t even gave the South London local excuse. I’m from North of the river 😆

Wow such great memories on this thread. Clubbing really was amazing. I was between Cheshire, manchester and Leeds and went to all the famous dance ones - Hacienda, Sankeys, the venue, back to basics etc. But was also partial to a cheesy one and Cheshire always delivered on that!

There was ‘clubbing’ and clubbing

2 totally different vibes but just so amazing.

I’ve an 18 yo ds....he’s never been to a club. I find that really sad. Yoofs are so confined compared to what I was able to do. I wouldn’t stop him if he wanted to go to an all night club....they just don’t do it. I blame coke. It changed the vibe. People were on ectasy when I was clubbing and it was just euphoric....amazing...can feel it in my bones now just thinking about it

turnthebiglightoff · 27/06/2020 08:44

@LilyLocket Same concept I believe! Was £20 entry, £25 for boys Grin all you can drink, absolute meat market! That was my life every Saturday night for about a year Blush

Wow some memories on here, we travelled regularly to The Gardening Club, Limelight, The Zap, loved Space and Pacha, regulars at Jackie O’s, Madisons, one of my faves which I don’t see mentioned was Sunday afternoons at Full Circle outskirts of Slough, this always finished the weekend off nicely.

JustOneLastThing · 27/06/2020 08:50

Leicester-late 90's-2010ish. I used to love Weavers-soixante-neuf on a Friday/Saturday
O4-middle floor
Fanclub (Fridays- even with the mysterious black stuff on the floor!)
Streetlife
Helsinki
Junction 21 for a late one (even if the journey home was in daylight/commuting hours!).
These days I fall asleep by 11 and rarely drink. Grin

Indeed!

Early 2000s here. Stayed up late and did a britpop quiz and felt all nostalgic and emotional and then I found this thread which brought back such fond memories. Started out in Brighton, pavilion tavern mad for it nights, lush on the end of Worthing pier, saved up for Trash nights at The End and then every weekend/weekday spent at metros, clwb ifor Bach, barfly and city arms in Cardiff. Take me back! I’d give anything to have a few nights like that again.

NeedToKnow101 · 27/06/2020 09:02

@NathanNathan - that is where the gardening club was.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 27/06/2020 09:02

‘when I was clubbing and it was just euphoric....amazing...can feel it in my bones now just thinking about it’

Put on some Mauro Picotto, close your eyes and you can still feel the rush. Grin

Lonelycrab · 27/06/2020 09:05

Speaking of the Blue Orchid in Croydon there was another even worse than that called Cinatras in West Croydon. Never went in there thank god, it was apparently £20 entry then free drinks and fights all night. We used to live in a house opposite the fire exit where the bouncers would throw them out- was quite entertaining viewing every weekend Grin

Vinosaurus · 27/06/2020 09:08

Sounds like a few of us may have crossed paths. Probably massaged the shoulders and told a few of you I loved you at some stage or another.

'97 to '07 London here.

Freedom @ Bagleys
The Cross
Escape from Samsara & Pendragon @ The Fridge.
Various nights at Camden Palace and Brixton Academy (dancing for 6 hours straight on that sloped floor certainly gave your calves a workout!) whose names escape me now
The End
Bedrock @ Heaven - first Thursday of the month without fail
The Velvet Rooms on Charing X Road - ended up getting to know the owners (one being Nicky Holloway) and friend and I even ran a couple of nights there ourselves
Turnmills - started on a Saturday night and sometimes stayed on for Trade
Notting Hill Arts Club
Sunnyside Up at the SW1 Club to keep the party going

Vinosaurus · 27/06/2020 09:09

I get tearful nostalgia reminiscing about my clubbing days 😭

Rigbyroo · 27/06/2020 09:12

@Vinosaurus me too. It’s got me really choked up and then I start doing the whole regrets thing!!

Mayflower400 · 27/06/2020 09:15

Oh an Bethnal Green working men’s club! Probably not ‘clubbing’ but it was so good. I can’t remember all the places we went but had so much fun. I miss fun!

BuntyBonus · 27/06/2020 09:17

Manchester - about 93-98. Rockworld, Ritz, 5th Avenue, 42nd Street, The Venue. Great times! And Hull 90-98 - Spiders and Silouette. More great times!

Blueberryblueberry · 27/06/2020 09:18

So much nostalgia! I was such a cyber kid- UV paint, millions of bracelets, dummies, cyberdog and fluffy legwarmers which my mum use to make me Grin sitting on the railings in gatecrasher with my glowsticks, that pub opposite that everyone use to go to before, insomniacs (I think it was called?) after, sundissential Leeds and Birmingham, godskitchen (had forgotten about that until I saw it mentioned upthread) cream and garlands in Liverpool, Sankeys, somewhere in derby I think??- spending the weekends with a copy of mixmag looking through the club listings at the back and getting lifts all over the country. Happy days.

hamstersarse · 27/06/2020 09:20

Do you remember the dancing that was common at that time? No one would dance like that now...how do youngsters even dance these days?!!!

I’ve got the tearful nostalgia now 😅

Mawbags · 27/06/2020 09:25

@Allnamesaregone

Club del mar..., aka crèche del marr I seem to remember

mizu · 27/06/2020 09:28

Leeds - early - mid 90s : Back to Basics, Liquid??? Dodgy place in Barnsley Grin
Liverpool
Bristol- Hacienda
Tokyo did a few good places late 90s but couldn't tell you names.

It's all a bit hazy GrinGrinGrin

Mawbags · 27/06/2020 09:30

The PP who said the coke scene changed it all, so true

Clubs were wall to wall duck face by 2006

fantasmasgoria1 · 27/06/2020 09:31

During the mid 90s.i used to go with friends to ordinary clubs. By 30 I was going to goth and rock clubs and I still go clubbing now! Not as often but we go to an alternative bar that has a lot of bands on which is open until 2am.

MrsStarwars · 27/06/2020 09:34
