When and where were your clubbing days?

London based for me. Started off in places like SW1, Club UK, MOS, The Satellite Club, Cafe de Paris. Then progressed on to The End, Turnmills and Fabric via Bagleys and The Cross.

I have so much nostalgia for those carefree irresponsible days pre children. I have continued going to gigs and festivals but haven’t set foot in a club for a long long time. I think it would be a totally different vibe nowadays with everyone totally preoccupied with their phones.

What were your favourite venues/club nights?

@ToQueendomCome was The Gardening Club in Covent Garden? I feel like it was above where the Apple store is now. Or I've gone completely mad.

morriseysquif · 27/06/2020 01:49

Birmingham Snobs and Faces in the 80s, in the late 80 and 90s in London, Wag, the Fridge, Dingwalls, Bagleys, the Cross, Fabric, Heaven......
I had a very corporate job but still managed Heaven on a Thursday night and be in work the next day....

ToyKitchenSink · 27/06/2020 01:50

This is taking me back.

I had my 17th birthday at Carwash in SoHo. My 27th at Inferno in Clapham.

Also spent loads of nights at the Hanover Grand, Embargo, the Astoria, Feet First on a Tuesday night at the Camden Palace, WAG, The Cross, The Player, Bagley's, Iceni and countless others mentioned by previous posters.

Before I was allowed through the door of these 'cooler' places, I could only get into Buzz Bar and Equinox in Leicester Square. I had such a baby face. Very annoying. I was about 14 though! Grin

@Starksforthewin

Birmingham early 80s for me.

Faces was the best club in town. One room for the New Romantics and the other for fantastic soul tunes. DJ was Steve Dennis. Looked like a history teacher but was a fantastic dj. I think he went on to run Luminar Leisure!

Also enjoyed Liberty, Rum Runner, Barbarella’s and the famous Snobs.

I would go back in a heart beat.

I lived in Edgbaston at the time, so my friend and I would regularly walk home barefoot if we’d spent our taxi money on drinks and couldn’t cope with our heels a moment longer!

wow, I recall being in those clubs in 1984 onwards. Smile

Waves at @ilovepixie - I was at Kelly's with my friends from CHS with our fake IDs most weekends at 16-17 in the very late 90s and occasionally went to Traks or even Nero's in Portstewart Grin My folks and most of the rest of my family still live in the Port.

I went to uni in Edinburgh, tbh I usually had too much uni work to be out more than once or twice a week, especially after the first year, but still have fond memories of early 00s Eros & Elite, Liquid Rooms, Revolution, Opal Lounge, Espionage, Why Not, Cabaret Voltaire and - of course - good old Scrubway - we were usually more West End than Cowgate but a night at either Scrubbers was always a treat Grin I drew the line at Shagtag Tuesdays at that other place near the Grassmarket though... I can't remember the name but I went once and never again!

Phantom1 · 27/06/2020 02:57

Shagarama Covent Garden and the Purple Pussycat in Finchley.

Imissmoominmama · 27/06/2020 03:03

@Turkeydrumstick- ah, we used to go to the Warehouse too. I liked the indie floor best.

Blackpool- early 80’s (before the stag and hen nights took hold)- Just Ji’s (all locals- half price drinks on Tuesdays and Thursdays and great music) the Adam & Eve, Trader Jacks , then slightly later; Brannigans, Schofield’s and Springs. I also loved a night in Your Father’s Moustache!

fredisthebestandthelast · 27/06/2020 03:50

Ahhh Metros well sweatros, I ended up back there 2 years ago now after a gig.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned TJs.

Starksforthewin · 27/06/2020 04:35

Morriseysquif we missed each other by just a couple of years!

I wasn’t sure how long Faces continued, actually? I had some of the best nights of my life in there. What was it like when you were going?

Starksforthewin · 27/06/2020 04:37

I was working in banking, but like you I would be in Faces on a Thursday night/Friday morning, then home for a shower and off to the serious office on no sleep!

Camomila · 27/06/2020 06:22

Brighton in the noughties, we went to the Arc/Ark? a lot, but my favourite was the big one near Prince Regents/the library whose name changed a lot - I liked the 90p bottles of Becks.

First time me and my friend ever went clubbing (age 16), our other friends very conservative Christian dad was our taxi driver home Blush

ComeOnGordon · 27/06/2020 07:16

@Whatsnewpussyhat and @Veterinari it also made me smile that someone mentioned the Raz. I had some of the best times of my life in there. I love Liverpool

StormBaby · 27/06/2020 07:21

@ToyKitchenSink I'd forgotten about Hanover Grand. And The Zap in Brighton. God the memories!

FrenchFancie · 27/06/2020 07:40

I was never much of a clubbed - although there was the legendary ‘worst club in Europe’ called Klute in Durham, where I fell asleep on a speaker stack.
Just after my 40th birthday and literally days before lockdown I wound up in a very cool club in Cyprus on the beach for their carnival night, and I swear to god I was old enough to have given birth to about half the young men there!!

Fiddlemesticks · 27/06/2020 07:55

@Jjou

The Krazyhouse in Liverpool in the 90’s, memories of a mispent youth Grin
Same!
caribooshriek · 27/06/2020 07:57

WingBingo · 27/06/2020 08:05

This thread is bringing back some great memories

As soon as my friends and I could drive, we would leave Torquay at about 7pm and drive to London to go clubbing, then drive home in the morning.

We were 17 and out parents were none the wiser.

We went to Gardening Club, SW1, Labrynth, Heaven and Cafe de Paris.

In later years Fabric was a favourite. Much of the early nighties was spent at clubs in Plymouth or Exeter or illegal raves.

Oh those were the days, hanging out with the DJ or dancing on stage.

One kid free weekend to do it all again would be amazing.

cosmo30 · 27/06/2020 08:06

Very much a dnb raver, custard factory in Birmingham was there very weekend, club air, rainbow, and a few trips to fabric and big dnb raves

cosmo30 · 27/06/2020 08:08

Also q club!

JMAngel1 · 27/06/2020 08:08

Late 80s Manchester. Konspiracy (the absolute best) Hacienda. PSV Man Alive
Early 90s Birmingham. Bonds. Wobble Steering Wheel. Tin Tins

Allnamesaregone · 27/06/2020 08:18

Ayr, late 80s early 90s, 2 nightclubs to choose from : Cub de Mar or Bobby Jones. 😂

Allnamesaregone · 27/06/2020 08:22

*Club- where’s the edit function

Anotherloverholeinyohead · 27/06/2020 08:29

Mid to late '90s for me in the south west.

Lakota in Bristol
Verbeer Manor (took the kids for a day out at Diggerland and in the queue to get in thought I've been here before!!)
Pawlett Manor
Cheese Pavilion - again spending a day wandering around Bath and West show looking at the the produce on display and suddenly remembered spending a very messy New Years eve there and then on to a free party
Bigger nights out were down to Plymouth

Oh how I loved those nights/days - not a care in the world went out on a Friday night with a bottle of Evian and told mother I'd see her Sunday.

Rockandgrohl · 27/06/2020 08:41
