I have had a GOOD DAY. Must therefore have murdered a few people.

DD went back to school today, year 1. She came out of school with a huge grin on her face, in a mob with all the other kids in her bubble. Teachers were in amongst them as they were letting them out and not a single person, parent or staff, was in a mask. Her teacher is apparently "amazing, brilliant, fantastic, GREAT!" which is good as this teacher will be her actual teacher next year.

While DD was in school, dh and I went out for a walk with toddler DD and the dog, actually managed to have a decent conversation, and the sun shone all afternoon.

So, not only have I felt happy today (worth what, six murders?) I also spoke to other parents in the playground and car park (20 murders, probably) and I smiled and chatted to people as we passed them on our walk. Plus I am guilty of overtly approving of the big group of late teens/early 20s having a picnic that we passed. That has probably encouraged them to do it again, thereby murdering more people. Probably nurses. Or grandparents. Or grandparents who are nurses.

Huzzah.

Bloody hell that shopping thread....how dare people enjoy themselves it's so unfaiiiiiiiiiiiiiir"

Spudlet · 15/06/2020 16:27

Surely East Dulwich is a wind-up. Surely. It’s got to be. Right? Confused

hashtagbollocks · 15/06/2020 16:31

Hi all.
the shopping thread is amazing. Truly amazing.
How are some people ever going to get their lives back when everything is going to KILL ( or do they not want their lives back)

Orangeblossom78 · 15/06/2020 16:37

The shopping thread weirdly cheered me up as it was quite funny

NowImLivinInExeter · 15/06/2020 16:37

The East Dulwich poster is obviously taking the piss but people are taking them seriously, goodness knows why.

BarkandCheese · 15/06/2020 16:37

@TheGreatWave

Hello all, DH has a blood test tomorrow and masks are mandated by the surgery. Me being so "meh" about it all means we don't have any.

Someone posted about a very simple one they made a few threads back, involved sheering elastic I remember that much, but no more. If it was someone can they let me know the instructions again please, or alternatively something that I can whip up tonight with no machine (well a teeny one).

Thank you

@TheGreatWave

That was me. Cut a 25cm by 25cm square of fabric, hem top and bottom, although if it’s just for a single use you could skip this step. Fold in half with the hemmed sides together then fold the other sides in by 2.5cm, pin and sew through all four layers. This should give you a channel to thread electric through.

Orangeblossom78 · 15/06/2020 16:38

Have you seen the one of the tarty 'nurse' going on about the virus - a new one of joy..

HauntedGoatFart · 15/06/2020 16:39

The shopping thread has looped around and performed some kind of Mobius to become absolutely amazingly bonkers awesome.

Interesting Twitter thread here from a US-based epidemiologist about the lack of infection spikes following BLM protests and the serious negative consequences of an unjustified lockdown: mobile.twitter.com/chrisvcsefalvay/status/1272174652832579585?s=20&utm_medium=email&utm_source=CampaignMonitor_Editorial&utm_campaign=LNCH%20%2020200615%20%20House%20Ads%20%20SM%20CID_0b6b24c6bc92b3595de5dea841d2faee

Incidentally you all might like to know that it's been 12 days since the first big BLM protest in the UK and there is yet to be any associated spike in infections. Or indeed a spike in pre-markers, for instance calls to 111 about symptoms.

HauntedGoatFart · 15/06/2020 16:40

That second wave is taking its sweet fucking time, in short.

BarkandCheese · 15/06/2020 16:40

The end product looks like this

Anti dementors say lockdown can just fucking do one now, we're going for chips.
Orangeblossom78 · 15/06/2020 16:41

I like it- for a mask it looks pretty

BarkandCheese · 15/06/2020 16:45

The fabric is from a huge king sized duvet cover I bought for £1 at a boot fair for the fabric. I make a lot of costumes for DDs youth theatre and second hand duvet covers are the best value fabric per square meter you can get.

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 16:48

The East Dulwich poster is obviously taking the piss but people are taking them seriously, goodness knows why.

That's what I thought, but then wondered if I'd got it wrong!

There is a lot of talk about the lingering effects of the virus. I have every sympathy with people who are suffering with post viral effects for weeks after getting ill even without being in hospital, and I think they should be supported. But they are the minority and how can they be supported if there is no tax revenue? That's what I'm just not getting.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 15/06/2020 16:49

@BarkandCheese are you a sewer in general? I am on a mission to start learning how to patchwork. Bought myself some Harry Potter fabric fat quarters in Aldi a couple of weeks ago and am trying to find the courage to make a start! Any tips?

@Orangeblossom78

She looks a bit tarty for an ICU nurse on that thread.

Grin Grin Grin

That. Was. AWESOME.

AnxiousElephant77 · 15/06/2020 16:52

The threads are on dementory fire today. Interesting to see a far more balanced opinion than we had 12 threads ago though.

Orangeblossom78 · 15/06/2020 16:54

I shouldn't wind them up should I Grin

This is interesting, on BBC news just now

In England, a further 28 people who tested positive for Covid-19 have died. It brings the total number of confirmed deaths in English hospitals to 27,982, NHS England said.

The patients were aged between 59 and 100 and all had underlying health conditions

Not for ages have we had this additional information.

Also some positive stuff with NS going on about the schooling only being 'blended' for as short a time as possible. Good

HesterShaw1 · 15/06/2020 16:55

*@BarkandCheese are you a sewer in general? *

GrinGrinGrin

I was puzzling over BarkandCheese being a sewer.

Anti dementors say lockdown can just fucking do one now, we're going for chips.
PickAChew · 15/06/2020 16:58

@BarkandCheese my mum has bagsied an old Morris and Co duvet cover of mine. She does a lot of patchwork and I'm sure will transformed it from something that's seen better days (all worn and faded, at the edges) into something beautiful, again.

Ds2 was too busy watching trucking in the UK videos on YouTube to go for a walk, this morning, but we did go, this afternoon, and he went quite quiet on seeing all the taxis at the local special school. He doesn't do quiet unless he's mulling something over :(

Shodan · 15/06/2020 16:59

I was puzzling over BarkandCheese being a sewer.

That was my first, quizzical thought too Grin

@Orangeblossom78 Please don't stop. I for one am enjoying it immensely.

LadyOfTheImprovisedBath · 15/06/2020 17:01

underlying health conditions fighten a lot of people - including us at the start.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-52308783

On average, people dying also had roughly three other health conditions.

It's still sad and probably shortened many lives but it should with age information make people realise perhaps their risks aren't as high as once thought.

For others including some in my family it means depsite no letter (probably looking at guideance should have had one)they are still at very high risk - as they have age and multiple health conditions which are known to increase risk.

SockYarn · 15/06/2020 17:03

Some people say sewist rather than sewer to avoid confusion.

I have a friend who does a lot of crochet who refers to herself as a hooker.

Mascotte · 15/06/2020 17:04

Should the hooker be on the tart thread?

Which I've missed!

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 15/06/2020 17:04

Oh god! I did not mean to ask @BarkandCheese
if she was an underground shite-street! Blush

Sorry Bark....
