We are going to need REALLY good leadership and trust in our government/scientific advisors to stay calm as a society aren't we?

Yes exactly and this is what's worrying. We need the track and trace to be excellent and to follow all the proper logical steps from there. We need facilities where people can isolate effectively away from the people they live with so as to minimise the number of lives being disrupted.

Instead what I worry we will have is "You came within 2m of someone who has symptoms therefore you need to isolate for 14 days. And so does your whole family. Whether or not you actually have it. Oh and in a few weeks you may well have to do that all over again. Whether or not you have it."

How is anyone supposed to run a business doing that?

Ibake · 14/06/2020 16:10

@justasking I've got a glorious image of you putting your foot down and gunning it over the border and then pulling over to wave at them by the Welcome to England sign Smokey and The Bandit style. I know you'd arrive home to a fine on your doorstep but those few brief hours would be so sweet!

SpnBaby1967 · 14/06/2020 16:13

I think as the numbers go down the dementors continue to justify their paranoia by stating that the numbers will increase if we all go out and PEOPLE WILL DIE. It's like they dont want life to return in any way shape or form. 🤷‍♀️

The numbers probably will go up and down, but I still think that's normal and expected and not a reason to lock us down even longer. Havent we beaten wuhan now for longest lockdown?

HesterShaw1 · 14/06/2020 16:14

To be fair, while our current situation is shit, the Wuhan lockdown was shitter!

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 16:14

We are hoping to get out to meet up with DS girlfriends family just over the border and bring her home. They have both finished uni. exams so are very much wanting to get together. We said to wait for Drakefords announcements next Friday to see how to move forward. Think we may be defying lockdown if Drakeford does not pull his finger out. Hours before the lockdown ended and we were allowed the five mile limit police were pulling over and fining people as a last hurrah.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 16:15

Yes I suppose it could have been worse!

Just been reading this, bit worrying Guardian's view of the future www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2020/jun/14/what-could-a-physically-distanced-uk-look-like-after-lockdown

Mascotte · 14/06/2020 16:15

Afternoon, fellow murderers.

Just home from a weekend of murderous debauchery and feeling better for it.

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 16:16

My bro. in China had a months lockdown he thought that hard, gawd almighty he thinks ours is just nuts.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 16:16

Surveillance technology, such as systems monitoring employees’ body temperature and adherence to social distancing rules, may be introduced. These could include thermal-infrared cameras and smartphone apps Jesus

gingerbreadslice · 14/06/2020 16:19

Joining this thread because it's sweary and positive. Grin

MinnieMountain · 14/06/2020 16:20

That's bloody ridiculous. How are there not riots in Wales?

Bollss · 14/06/2020 16:20

Just been on a thread linking to an article about Scottish schools being pt for the whole school year. Wtaf.

BarkandCheese · 14/06/2020 16:22

That Guardian article reminds me of those 1950s films about the world of the future where we all have flying cars and robot butlers. Probably about as long term plausible as well.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/06/2020 16:23

36 deaths in the UK in all settings today.
I know sundays are always low but fuck me that's astoundingly low.

Mascotte · 14/06/2020 16:23

@gingerbreadslice hello 😃 Yes.. only thread it's safe to be on.

Ibake · 14/06/2020 16:25

I've just been googling because I'm so cross! This is on the gov.wales site. My reading is that the answer is pretty clear and that the police are abusing their powers?

Anti dementors say lockdown can just fucking do one now, we're going for chips.
LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/06/2020 16:25

And welcome @gingerbreadslice

Mascotte · 14/06/2020 16:26

Yes, @TrustTheGeneGenie, it's proper nuts.

The Facebook group opposing it has gone from 30 members on Thursday to 850 now, so it seems parents are not happy snd are willing to show it.

rookiemere · 14/06/2020 16:27

I'm really worried now about those posts where police are stopping people going across the border. I'm allowing myself to hope that the extended family holiday we've booked in England days before Scotland lifts its restrictions actually takes place.

I would be absolutely gutted if we got stopped going there. Also we're paying a not inconsiderable amount for half of it which I guess we would still need to pay.

Yeah the Scottish education proposal is beyond ridiculous. Tried to get my parents worked up about it this morning but they seemed happier complaining about the English teachers and didn't seem to have a full grasp or want to learn too much about the probable impact on their GS. It's probably because they read The Telegraph who I don't think are much bothered what happens beyond the border.

Bollss · 14/06/2020 16:27

Glad to hear more people are joining @mascotte I cannot believe this is happening. It's shameful.

People on the other thread are defending it because ooh nothing can be the same. Angry

Ibake · 14/06/2020 16:28

Hi @gingerbreadslice I have the best and easiest recipe for ginger bread.

I love how every day there's more and more newbies. It's like a load of refugees limping across the border from all over MN and collapsing with relief when they realise that this thread will provide them with safe refuge.

HesterShaw1 · 14/06/2020 16:30

We (DSis) and I are cautiously planning a holiday for July. Normally we would have our mum along, but she lives in Wales. How long is this stupid fucking shit going to last?

Such a great analogy Ibake.

Hi gingerbreadslice :)

OK, here comes a panic attack about the thought of part time school for a year. I'm not even in Scotland. But I will lose my very specialist not replaceable job and I can't even imagine what I will do then. I'm genuinely terrified about my mental health and that if my children. I can't do this.
