@TrustTheGeneGenie that confirms my view that a lot of people are turning out to be complete fuckwits.

Mascotte · 14/06/2020 16:37

I'm not sure that Wales or Scotland has the power to close their border- I'd be surprised.

I'd take a look at the actual law (Corona virus regulations) rather than guidance.

I know there's a five mile rule in Wales (well, I think it's a rule?) but in Scotland it's just a guideline so no power in law.

Yes, quite! I am so so angry. I don't understand how any parent can be ok with this!!

Bollss · 14/06/2020 16:39

@NothingIsWrong

OK, here comes a panic attack about the thought of part time school for a year. I'm not even in Scotland. But I will lose my very specialist not replaceable job and I can't even imagine what I will do then. I'm genuinely terrified about my mental health and that if my children. I can't do this.
Oh god I'm so sorry I shouldn't have brought it up here! Try and stay calm. Boris might make a totally different decision CakeFlowersWine

Though did see this comment on there and did a huge facepalm.

Teateaandmoretea · 14/06/2020 16:45

@NothingIsWrong I believe primary will be back and the bubbles will be larger. It’s secondary that I think is limited problematic. Does that help you?

Teateaandmoretea · 14/06/2020 16:45

More problematic.....

BakewellTarts · 14/06/2020 16:48

Had lovely fish a chips last night too from our local pub.

Also enjoying the sun and a legal bubble with my lovely sister and nephew.

Sometimes it's the small things.

NothingIsWrong · 14/06/2020 16:51

If the two in primary are back that will help enormously. I have one who will go into Y8 but she is super sensible, and can be left no bother. She's also on school transport so as long as it's whole days they have, she can get herself there and back with no issue. And if school transport isn't running there is a service bus, just awkward times but we can work round that. It's my mental health that will bite the bullet, I'm not really coping at the moment very well and just the thought of YEARS of this is paralysing. Twats on twitter saying social distancing is now forever.

Orangeblossom78 · 14/06/2020 16:55

Scotland and Wales make money from tourism, so if close the borders that would not go well, for now or the future.

Ibake · 14/06/2020 16:57

Oh @nothing take heart, how can they possibly know? They don't. They're talking bollox because, for some weird twisted reason, they're enjoying catastrophising. It won't be years, I don't even think it will be for much longer. One way or another, we'll be on top of this before you know it and then they're all going to look very silly indeed. Look after yourself, keep checking in with us and don't venture onto the batshit threads xx

Willow2017 · 14/06/2020 16:57

I know there's a five mile rule in Wales (well, I think it's a rule?) but in Scotland it's just a guideline so no power in law.

Somebody should tell the local police that then!

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 16:57

DIL going nuts welsh school just sent e mail. Grandson reception will get one hour a week lessons for the last three weeks of term. She is in a rage. Years 1 to 6 will get three hours a week for last three weeks of term. So they are not going to have the extra week tagged on, the unions have won in Wales.

Willow2017 · 14/06/2020 16:57

Ladolcevida
It wont let me sign! Keeps coming up with there is an error!

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 16:58

Zero nursery provision until god knows when.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 14/06/2020 17:00

In our local rag reporting today's figure and of course everyone is "but its allllwaayyys low on a sunday. Well yes but it's still significantly lower than last week.
Then some bright spark comes up with "yesterdays figure was the highest rise for a Saturday in 5 weeks"
Now, let me see....
Yesterday was 181.
The 6th was 284
The 30th was 215
The 23rd was 282
The 16th was 468

Hmmm they'd be pretty shit at "Play your cards right"

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 17:00

So no school, no more money for furlough or business help now. Wales is fucked. I am so sad about this.

Spudlet · 14/06/2020 17:02

That Guardian article is bonkers. I can see some of those changes coming in in the short to medium term, but the idea that we’re all going to be eating out in little Perspex boxes forever is nutsy, frankly. I can’t think of a single place that we eat at around here that would be reasonably able to implement that. And who is going to pay for all these automatic doors and lifts and taps and things? Businesses that have just been shut down for three months or more? What with, Monopoly money?

HesterShaw1 · 14/06/2020 17:05

Another Guardian article just appeared

www.theguardian.com/science/2020/jun/14/scientists-report-flaws-in-who-study-on-two-metre-distancing

The Guardian really can fuck off now. They're clearly enjoying this.

Spudlet · 14/06/2020 17:08

Of course they are, they’re adoring every second. It’s a chance to bash the government (not that they don’t deserve the odd bash, or more than the odd one really, but still) while doing it under the guise of ‘safety’. It’s virtue-signalling.

HesterShaw1 · 14/06/2020 17:09

There is a huge difference between an academic finding technical flaws in research, and trying to get a society back to semi functioning again. I have no problems with the academic debate going on. I do have a problem with the Guardian giving it enormous prominence even though they know it will be misinterpreted and add to an already excessive fear.

God I'm mad!

HesterShaw1 · 14/06/2020 17:10

Yes and it gives them a ready made and seemingly endless stream of catastrophe to draw upon rather than having to go looking for it.

Spudlet · 14/06/2020 17:12

Me too! I’m sure they will also be the first to wail about public services being cut and the consequent effects on the most vulnerable, but they won’t acknowledge for one tiny second that they might have played any part at all in the economy tanking with their efforts to scare everyone silly.

It’s like the other day, their big banner story was some dementory headline or another. Then there was a teeny tiny little story halfway down the homepage about how France hasn’t seen a spike in cases despite easing their lockdown.

I’m sick of them, I only go on there out of habit. They can forget begging me for money, anyway. Sod ‘em.

justasking111 · 14/06/2020 17:15

The doom and gloom on a Sunday seems worse somehow. The teachers spoiling this day for so many parents seems plain cruel. It could have gone out on a Monday. Employers are asking employees back now guess it will be mums who will lose their jobs because they have no childcare for the foreseeable future. This covid has put us all back at the kitchen sink staring at the walls.

gingerbreadslice · 14/06/2020 17:15

@Ibake I would love the recipe please!
And hello everyone Grin

God this lockdown is dragging now isn't it. I'm fucked off with pasta now, which my DH insisted on buying a bulk order of just incase we couldn't get it and it runs out you know!.
And my kids have driven me wild the last 12 weeks. Has it even been 12 weeks it feels it?!. Ones back at school tomorrow for four days a week hoping it will be nice and peaceful or am I just lying to myself Confused.
