@permanentlyexhaustedpigeon ah I won't be anywhere near there until the end of the year when ds2 hopefully goes for navy training.

justasking111 · 11/06/2020 18:28

Thread 11 that is over 10k posts then. Astonishing.

NothingIsWrong · 11/06/2020 18:28

@incognitomum nowhere near I'm afraid! Oxfordshire/Gloucestershire border...

TheGreatWave · 11/06/2020 18:28

Nooooo... I'd ordered body bags from wowcher in anticipation

Good job it wasn't Wish. They would probably have a head and arm holes.

Evening all. In case any of you were alarmed at my earlier decision to decorate the man cave I decided instead to take baby steps and follow the science. I've bought the paint and tried a bit on the wall. It looks ok so now I think I'd better take stock for a bit. If the science bears me out I'll crack on and do maybe the ceiling in a couple of weeks. If we stick by the rules, step up and do our civic duty there's no reason why that room can't be almost back to normal by the year end. Of course we'll still have to take stringent hygiene measures (no more greasy finger marks, DH) and there can only be one person in there at a time because, well, Covid 😷

incognitomum · 11/06/2020 18:30

@NothingIsWrong might be antis on here near your neck of the woods?

justasking111 · 11/06/2020 18:33

What I have noticed on many threads I am putting down to lock down crazies.

OH thinks covid is over hyped LTB
OH thinks kids could go to school LTB
OH thinks the pubs should open again LTB
OH wants to go fishing/walking/golfing. LTB

There are going to be a lot of people down the road who will look at smashed relationships and wonder if it was all worth it.

If you were following the science you wouldn’t be painting the man cave until a vaccine for Covid is found. PEOPLE WILL DIE if you even open a tin of paint.

I despair.

AgentCooper · 11/06/2020 18:36

Nobody around here is giving a flying fuck anymore. Lots of kids, teenagers, mums playing and sitting together in the park, which was bloody lovely. A group of them gave me their extra ball so my wee DS could kick it about, no mention of disinfecting/burning it after we had touched it.

Except this one woman in Lidl with a seriously tooled up mask who backed off at an alarming speed when we started walking towards each other. My Lidl has no one way rule so I don’t know what she was so fussed about. If you were that worried, why would you be browsing ice cream in Lidl?

It’s all performance and pantomime. I’m a nerd about performance theory as it was part of my doctorate and I am reminded very much of the being seen aspect of performance being its most critical part.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 11/06/2020 18:40

@Allflightscancelled I’m sorry but unless you’ve quarantined the paint you shouldn’t be even thinking about using it. If you’ve started you need to burn your house down. If not isolate the room and open the windows. Wear a hazmat suit. Bleach and burn the suit and please don’t open the door until 2022. Stay safe.

I think my cat is an anti-dementor, he's certainly trying to murder everything in sight!
Chatting to the guy at the garage, who thought things must be really bad COVID-wise as he'd seen so many ambulances recently.
I pointed out the hospital is closed, so all th he ambulances are coming this way to take people to Bristol.
He nodded sagely, "all those infected people being taken to Bristol, it'll cause an outbreak there too"
An outbreak of what? Heart attacks, giving birth, being run over, choking on fish bones, you know, all the usual stuff people get taken to hospital for.

Allflightscancelled · 11/06/2020 18:44

😱@KaronAVyrus and @ Wales you are so right! It was hardly an essential shopping trip and who knows what germ-laden individual might have touched the tin! And now I've gone and brought it into the house and actually opened it. aaargh we're all gonna DIE!!!!!!!!

Wow
Look what you’ve all been up to
Just catching up

I’ll repost this
Enjoying sun
I know those 6 weeks really well..hell with three children under 5 and no playgroups open.

In fact I remember one half term and we were told it was open( a youth centre) arrived with kids and friend In tow and a few other mums only for the YC manager to tell us that we couldn’t come in
By this time we were already in the building.
So mums started packing up and I remember a voice, which I realised was mine, saying I’m not going, we were told it was on I’m not putting this lot back in the car etc
He was really aggressive and threatened to lock me in. Oh we had a right old ding dong, but I held my ground. Where did I get that from.
Still, I refused to budge..and he grudgingly let everyone stay.

Looking back, I’d only be about 29 and didn’t normally say boo to a goose
But yes those days were hell, when it was wet and stormy like today.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 11/06/2020 18:47

@Allflightscancelled it was really nice knowing you. I have some spare body bags if you want to be prepared.

My dad stopped a toddler from falling today. The murdering bastard touched an innocent child.

And as for sharing footballs. Bleach and burn. It’s the only way. I despair.

RobinHobb · 11/06/2020 18:48

Thank you for the sanity here.
Fairly fed up today. Trying to sort out what's bothering me, and write it down as it's helpful

So going back to work: I read this batshit crazy thread here a while back saying women were responsible for their own bad choices and that's why they were going to get fuct in the post corona world. I tried to engage but had to leave the thread. So depressing. But I'm like pp on a temporary career break (2 under 4yo) and not because I am lazy, vapid, stupid etc as impugned to SAHM. It was a competitive male dominated field and it didn't work. But now with lockdown the SAHM life is pretty awful and I hate the bastard walk with a passion. When DH who works 8am-8pm emerges and asks if I had a nice day playing with the kids I want to rip his head off. The drudgery is never ending. I really really want to go back to work and I don't think it'll happen this year - I had started dreaming about it pre lockdown.

Second thing: schools ffs. Now DH persuaded me to send DD1 to posh private school, shes only 4, but he didn't like the local state infant school so she went. I wanted her to go to the state school. It's expensive and really killing us but she's back 5 days a week, loving it and so happy. Really taken the strain off. But that's fine for me - but what about everyone else? What about kids in state schools?! This is appalling. Kids have a right to education and it is so so so wrong that it looks like schooling now depends on how money your parents earn.

Third thing: playgrounds. Why can't they open them? What will we do in the summer holidays if the govt is still in its anti children stance and no pools or holiday clubs or play parks? Not allowed in shops for fucks sake. They are not cockroaches spreading disease, they are children. Policy is being made by middle aged white men who don't even think about children as anything other than pests that women take care of.

And the kicker: close friends daughter being diagnosed with cancer. She's been fighting for tests since March and only now that she has gotten really bad finally gotten an mri and they have found a tumour in her spine and it's all systems go to have a biopsy etc. Fucking covid is the only thing that counts though, eh. She's a 21 year old girl just finishing uni and she's been waiting for months while they gave her vitamin b shots. It makes me want to weep.

RobinHobb · 11/06/2020 18:51

That was long but therapeutic
Thank you
Don't think I could say it to anyone else

Mascotte · 11/06/2020 18:53

Oh, @RobinHobb that awful about your friend's daughter 💐 It's a fucking scandal.

At least your daughter is back. I'd be tempted to go private for my child but he's only moved schools when we moved a year ago, ironically for better education... I'm not in favour really, but I'm so sad to see his opportunities dwindling.

On a happier note, I'm
Planning a nice break later in summer when he's away with XH. Hoping some others have some nice things planned?

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 11/06/2020 18:55

@RobinHobb - The dismissal of anything other than COVID horrifies me. Your poor friend and her dd. I don’t have words but this is such a horrendous cost and it’s this impact that seems to be disregarded.

OP posts:
Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 11/06/2020 18:57

@Mascotte we’re hoping to have family holiday to Cornwall in July. Had confirmation the site will be open but we’re limited to 5 miles. Dh says we’re going anyway!

OP posts:
bakingcupcakes · 11/06/2020 18:58

According to bbc news the schools won't be open for key worker kids over summer. I'm wondering if that means holiday clubs will open or if the bubbles will be extended.
